Hey guys, sorry for the name change, I changed the channel name to JG Online which has been my main username on most other platforms for a while, its also because in the future I wanna do more videos like this where I just talk a bit about my hobbies and projects I have been working on, so hence the name change :)
I am also using a new editing program so apologies if the editing is a bit barebones, I am learning okay >.<
EDIT: Since alot of you are asking where to you can download/find the map, you can either join the discord and find a download as .pdn in the channel or get a .png version on the AH forums.

I never thought I'd see anything about -BAM maps on RUclips or especially Qbams or Qgis, I thought it was something so niche that I'd never hear about it outside very specific small circles, it's amazing that now more people will hear or know about these. Especially Qbams, that's a whole world, of different styles for maps, different patches, things that are such works of art that barely anyone knows about.

    Hi JG Online!
I wonder if it'd be possible to use this amazing map as a continuously updated 'de facto' map of the world, showing border changes in ongoing conflicts and civil wars. It'd be updated every month or so to show an accurate picture of the lines drawn on Earth. This would be a game-changer for mapping conflicts and geopolitics rather than the traditional de jure maps which don't really convey much useful information about conflicts like Ukraine.
I genuinely think collecting information on the state of global borders and centralising it in one place would be really impactful and you could lease out the map for use on news programs, open-source intelligence, etc.
Additionally you could also show useful details that political maps don't usually show, like integrated international organisations (EU, Gulf Cooperation Council, etc.), dependencies of countries (like Belarus to Russia, Nauru to Australia, a lot of unrecognised proxies like Northern Cyprus, Transnistria), as well as control of the oceans, both territorial waters and EEZs. It would probably be the greatest political map ever made.

I've made maps in online communities before and while I admire the work here, I'll never understand the obsession with Robinson over Equirectangular.
Robinson is just so hard to work with on the local scale. If I want to reference historic borders in colonial South America, the projection I'm probably going to find is Mercator or some globe representation of the local area in question, so essentially mercator.
Which means when I overlay that on a Robinson map to draw from it... well it's off and now I need to play with the image warping for a few minutes and no matter how much time I invest in this, I'm always going to be inaccurate.
Equirectangular just seems far more user friendly for map makers and still has a high level of visual appeal for map viewers. I don't get why it isn't the standard and why Robinson is everything.
I have a feeling Robinson is just tradition at this point and nothing more, thanks to QBAM and Wikipedia.

    • @JG_Online1
      @JG_Online1  15 дней назад +1

HEART is in Robinson mostly because there are already good templates available for this size in Equirectangular, such as EXAMAP and 8K-BAM, while HEART is more as an intent to succeed/fix M-BAM, hence it is in Robinson

    hello! amateur map maker here!
im not sure if you know this but there is another version of bam called XK-BAM which uses equirectangular which is on the same alt history forums as q-bam and m-bam just in a different page
    (edit: you do)

I'm still waiting for someone to add Mexico's municipalities to that map. I think someone in the XK-BAM thread might have uploaded theirs, but it's never been added to the XK-BAM that's in the Google drive. Maybe I'll finally make an AH account and just do it myself

Ok, as someone who has never set foot in this whole entire niche, and has only just discovered all of it... Why not use vector graphics?
