Alternatively, if you're using SWS Extensions, I highly recommend assigning something like Shift+Delete to: SWS/S&M: Delete selected items' takes and source files (prompt, no undo) Essentially, it lets you "hard"-delete items + their underlying media files in one action. Much better because you can just record like normal without the annoying prompt and always have the option to clean up after the fact.
I only discovered this action a few days ago when trying to replicate the "Abort Record" button in Reaper's remote control editor (WRB). Such a time saver, especially if you're recording by yourself and at a distance from the PC. Takes so much of the frustration out of tracking difficult takes
After I press space to stop recording and the save/delete files window pops up, I’d like to use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select if I want to save or delete but it’s not working. I’ve seen others say they use that to select what they want and press enter.
wow. I've been doing this wrong for the past 10 years. I can't even imagine how may .wav files there are on multiple hard drives with me messing up a vocal take and cursing at myself lol.
Thank you so much! This channel is a lifesaver. Seriously. I've found no other resources other than the reaper forum(which sucks) for Reaper information
OMG This Kenny should be awarded one day for all this mind bogging wonders he shows off about Reaper. I mean this video is old but I never even knew this was all possible. They should re name Reaper to something like Kenny Magic Studio
This has been a major flaw for me with Reaper and other DAW’s. Sometimes you want to listen to a take after recording it. Then delete it. With the old Cool Edit Pro, you could just click to highlight the wave, and then hit the delete button, then blamo, gone forever. The only saving that happens then, is saving the session and associated wav files. So for instance, you could open a session with drums that already exist, put down 20 guitar ideas, realize that you didn’t like the tone or whatever, and then just close out without saving. Those 20 guitars did not exist thereafter in a file somewhere, where you had to search them out and figure out what to delete. I wish these DAW folks could learn from the old Cool Edit Pro. Even Adobe screwed it up after they bought Syntrillium. Edit: Also to add, that otherwise, I like Reaper in general, but probably won’t be using it for songwriting and tracking. It will probably work great for my mix down process. That’s all...
I had the keystrokes I would normally do to stop and delete all takes rigged up in a macro on my keyboard. Now I'm looking to get a wireless foot controller that to do it when I'm not at the keyboard. But I'd need an action so I can MIDI trigger it. Which has lead me to this video. Awesome!
Is there a way to assign a key command that I have already assigned somewhere else, and keep both? I have backspace for deleting items depending on focus, but I want backspace to do this in stead of ctrl+space. There should be a way to make backspace perform a different action if it sees that I'm recording..
thanks this is terrific , however this action command doesn't delete the midi track you may be recording along with audio , hmm is there a custom action that could do stop delete audio as well as midi ?
My reaper media now getting 1.60gb! That's too much! What if I'll delete all media reaper from local hard drive folder? is this will effect to my saved project? Because I've saved my project on another hard drive.
I love Reaper, but one thing keeps me annoyng...whe I stop recording I would like an item to be selected automaticaly, so i could press "delete" and delete the take and not the whole track. How could I solve this please?
Thanks Kenny. Your Reaper video collection is the best on the internet!

I thought I was the only one who was too lazy to figure it out. Dang.
Awesome! Your videos are the best learning tool out there -- not only do you teach us tricks, you enable us to experiment with a bit more confidence!

An excellent series of videos. You have convinced me to use Reaper, eg I didn't even know the Score Editor existed
Thank you so much. This has saved so much time

Dude You are the Bomb!!!! great video
0:55 "A few hours" to do a guitar solo, "hit undo about a 100 times". This feels so personal... :((
Cool, is there a quick shortcut way to Delete the take plus all backups after stopping and hearing the take?
Thank you so much !
