I've used the normalization function, but had no idea what LUFS was or how to combine functions like normalizing to a target and using brick wall limiting. This tutorial has certainly expanded my knowledge. Thank you Kenny !
LUFS is like core knowledge. ive been doing music since middle school and im almost 20 now. i learned about LUFS earlier this year. besides that, i knew that there was something i was missing, and i asked everyone, but nobody answered me.
Thank you very much! This is so useful. I continue to be amazed at what Reaper can do. Would probably never stumble on much of this stuff without your wonderful videos.
Used this today to make a whole bunch of backing drum tracks all play at the same level, to prevent awkward turning backing tracks up and down during a gig. Thanks Kenny!
Everything I've learned about Reaper so far is from you Mr. Gioia. I love your tutorials, and am so glad that you're starting your new vids with a cameo. Awesome. The 'Orthodox Christian Music Project' owes you a deep debt of gratitude.
This is so cool. I've been using the LUA script 'HeDa Render LUFS v1.0' + the JS: Event Horizon Limiter\Clipper' combo to do this. Now it's built in! Yay! Thanks for another great lesson.
I've watched your videos ever since I started voice acting about 3ish years ago. Thank you. Thank you so much for this. I've been doing silly edits just to solve this issue and I didn't realize it was this easy... Thank you. You sir, are a king among men.
Thank you so much for this s hort but effective lesson on rendering. Learned a lot again. (Did anyone already realized that these 'Render settings/Brick Wall' once in a while change automatically??? at least on my side they do. That means I always have to double check, whether there are still the way I programmed them ... )
Oh my, I never noticed this option. You're gift from other world Kenny! This helps me so much to hit the target LUFS! I was doing it by checking render stats but knowing I could simply hit it exactly is perfect!
Are you a mind reader? I was literally just thinking about exporting stems from a mix I worked on last year to do a re-mix from and this will be awesome to get them all normalized before I bring them in to the new project.
Dear Kenny Gioia. Learned a tonne from you. Thank you. I wanted to ask you if you are using Reaper to edit these or parts of these videos. Hmmm ... so, now having stated that ... Are you using Reaper for editing these or parts of these videos?
Kenny I hope you don't have a furby sitting on top of your monitor that goes flying across the room when you do that hand swipe at the start?? As always..excellent LOL
Hey Kenny, tnx a lot for your big big source of inspiration and informations! Just to know: is this normalize/limit render option working also with limiting stems based on limiting the master track? If yes, this will be a real revolution in adatptive videogames music...
Yes it is. You can limit the stems based on the gain reduction that would be applied to the master track (even if you don't render the master output), which is a little weird but ensures that the stems will re-mix back to the limited master. That was specifically requested by game people.
Strange, how come I don't see the "Normalize" box that pulls up the Postprocess Render box. In my render window, there is nothing there. I can't figure out how to normalize my audio to -3db with reaper.
Hi, beginner here, so just a simple question. When recording only vocal with full instrumental (one wav file), 1. How can I save as unprocessed vocal file? 2. After recording vocal, it only saves as vocal file only, it doesn't save both as one file? 3. Does using Gate is like using plugins to avoid the bleeding coming out from closed headphone?
How do you get the real-time rendering at 28x? I have 32gb ram and the highest I've ever got was 16x rendering. I'm usually getting only 5.5x rendering
Awesome as always. Question, with REAPER adding the Limiter option in the render dialog, does this now render (pun intended) limiter plug ins on the master track unnecessary now?
Yes and no. You can't hear the result in this window so I would say it's still better to put it on the master track. But this is a great time-saver for doing things quickly. Like if you had to render 30 stems that are not related to each other and you wanted to make sure none of them clipped.
Hi Kenny, thanks for all your wisdom, very helpfull...i have one question, I use reaper v5.552/x64....and when I am ok with some recording volume, and render that file, I hear it very low, not at the same volume when listen in reaper....so I look up for your sugestion here on the video, but I cant reach all the settings you mention....could it be my reaper version ?.....have a good one!
Thanks Kenny. I want to have all my performance backing tracks at the same loudness. Should I add ReaLimit and the loudness meter to limit before render normalization? Or just limit with a brickwall while redndering?
Hello Kenny! Thanks for all the videos about REAPER. It helps so much! Quick question: is there a way to normalize or render a track with a maximum AND minimum peak level? Some clients ask me to normalize my audio files with peak values no more than -3 db and not less than -9 db without using a compressor... I know the feature is available on Adobe AUDITION but I was wondering how to it on REAPER. Thanks in advance!
What functionality do you mean? The EL8 Distressor is a compressor/limiter, with fairly standard controls. (Maybe the adjustable sidechain high-pass filter is unusual - ReaComp actually has that.) I haven't yet had the pleasure of using one myself, but AFAIU what makes it special is that it has a really great "analog" sound, and you can switch between different compression curves & distortion characteristics. To maybe answer your question: Try the different compressor / limiter / distortion / waveshaping JS plugins that come with Reaper. Also try fiddling with the _Knee size, Hysteresis,_ and _Highpass_ settings in ReaComp. If you want to learn about the shortcomings of ReaComp, I highly recommend Dan Worall's videos on it.
Why can't I see the Normalise/Limit menu nor the track info post render, I have the latest ver. Doesn't seem like it's in preferences. Might require OS update?
It would be great to have a version control system like Github in Reaper. Please make a video if you know a tool like this for our projects. Thanks for your videos!!!

Been watching a lot of your videos recently Kenny, nice to see your face. Tempted to use this rendering tip on some recent recordings.
Superb Kenny. So glad Kenny is younger than me. His tutorials will see me out... 🤣

Thanks again, KG. Have a great weekend!

Nope

Why aren’t the normalization/limiting options included into the presets? And tail also.
Kenny why that after im rendering a file its losing his volume but when i play the recording on reaper is sounds more loud
I dont get the dial on the track when I normalize a track
It is necessary to check the Dither master option when using Render Normalization since the volume is changing?
Hello Kenny!

why does my rendered file sound so different than from within the DAW?
Will this be affecting the levels in the mix for each channel individually like a limiter might do?
Kenny, does Reaper have any kind of Distressor functionality I'm not aware of?
What functionality do you mean? The EL8 Distressor is a compressor/limiter, with fairly standard controls. (Maybe the adjustable sidechain high-pass filter is unusual - ReaComp actually has that.) What plug ins on reaper are for final mastering and whats my final target for my over all master volume?
