  • This is a video review of the Pentel Floatune ( amzn.to/3R7rRQe ), a new rollerball pen from the maker of the Energel gel pens. The pen is said use an innovative water-based ink that is infused with an oil-based lubricant which should prevent skipping better than older rollerball designs.

I love your videos and reviews, you do a great job talking about the details about the construction of a pen that I never would have thought of.
One thing I do wish you would do more often is to show where the pen balances, balancing a pen on a finger next to a ruler or something like that would help a lot! (Posted/unposted, retracted/extended, etc.) I find that balance is subjective if it's mentioned as "well-balanced" or "back-heavy" in reviews, because people's hand sizes and grip area will affect how balanced a pen will feel.

Thanks for the comparison. I have difficulty writing & any drag really causes me problems some days. For years I was unable to even hold a pen or pencil and I am still trying to find a pen I can write or draw with for a reasonable length of time. I have found the Energel is better, but sometimes I need waterproof ink for drawing and some of my Energel pens smudge and I can't paint over them.

I wonder if this pen, given the oil addition, may have some ballpoint attributes? Such as writing on more surfaces, or over oil, etc. Also, the oil may allow the ink to last longer. Of course, since this is a Japanese pens there could be aspects of it which work better with kanji, hiragana, or katakana.

You should do additional tests like bleedthrough, smudging, and highlighter smudge test

I am feeling better about my obsession with smooth writing pens. 😊
By the way, they must be making the Pentel Floatune in 1.0 now because I just ordered a box of 12 on Amazon yesterday.

I always associate Pentel with needle tip pens. As they were the first to widely market those back in the eighties. I recall my dad really liking those. But they don't seem to make a modern version, and since they were water based, and disposable, very hard to find an original that still writes today.

Non-Skipping I assume its free-ink system? Could it be compared to Stabilo Worker+? I know your`re a lefty, too. But I always had my issues with Energel somehow. Really had to hold it like I am not pushing it from the left to give ink constantly.

Yea I think so. I prefer the worker plus. That’s an exceptional pen

If anything, I've seen bad skipping in ballpoint and gel pens. Rollerballs, not so much. Only problem I consistently have is running through cartridges and thin paper stocks.

can you please tell me that wheather uniball sold separate ink bottles that are waterproof and fadeproof,
actually i like needle tip pen like v7, but i also want a pen that is waterproof and fadeproof , unfortunately i couldn't find that pen, so i was thinking to put uniball ink in pilot v7 cartridges

hello ! i saw that you did some videos about schneider pen , i am looking to buy some Schneider Slider 755 M cartidges , you think like 3 of these will be enough to write for a year of school ? in the product description it says it can write 6000meters

0.8 seems like cheating a little to avoid skips. I bet 0.5 would cause problems.

this feels like Pentel's direct response to the Uni Vision Elite. both come in 0.8mm, similar pricing, similar-ish design. the Vision Elite is what a lot of non-enthusiasts think of when we talk about rollerballs, so Pentel is probably trying to break into that market
