Nice!! Didn't know about this difference! Honestly love how the snorkel keeps the turbo noise down if you're keeping things quiet. More luxury/sleeper focus. Great video!
There are not only available on the Aero! I believe they changed it in 2003 where its a larger snorkel. Both of my 2005 9-5 ARC's had the larger snorkel on them. You can actually hear the turbo discharge valves operate with the larger inlet in use. Tuners wouldnt make you change to an open filter on stage 1 and 2 tunes but recommended for a stage 3. Also if anyone wants to run an open filter and are worried about water getting into it you are able to use the factory air box as a splash shield! If you dont mind cutting it up on the top section then it makes a great improvised slash guard!
You're in the half-correct realm. Yes, it's not just an Aero only part. But for 2002 or 3 it was Aero only. By 2004 or 2005+ it was on all Saab 9-5s, and was most 100% definitely the intake on any Saab 9-5, Aero or not, on 2006+. The intake piping itself seems like one of those optimum improvements they did in the later Saabs, including the 235hp to 250hp tune. So, if you have an old Saab 9-5, ya might as well retroactively add the same intake tube & engine HP tuning that the same Saab engineers deemed worthy of & equally possible of doing in order to improve the overall performance of all Saabs, whether they were on the showroom floor or not, and with very little real capital investment to boot...
@@andersonbrothersgaming5883 it really does make a difference, my wife had a 2001 9-5 Aero but was the 4 speed auto and was stock besides the rear muffler and I had a 2005 9-5 Arc 5 speed auto. Respectively they are close the same power output as the 2001 Aero was rated 230 and the 2005 arc was rated 220. We raced them against each other and the 05 got the advantage. Now that can also be contributed to the 5 speed auto gearing to the 4 speed auto but the was a difference one we put the bigger snorkel on there. It wasnt massive but it did seem a bit more responsive than before. She didnt want the open intake since she wanted hers to basically stay stock. She did enjoy the fact she could hear the discharge valve

The "Diesel snorkel" is a must! :)
it only makes sense if you also replace the aluminum "cobra" tube with the thicker type.
Just bought my first saab 2004

Where's you order from, may I ask? All the places I knew that sold 'em dried up a few years ago. I bet it's either eBay or junkyards at this point

OEM upgrades are the best upgrades. Did you notice any difference in sound?
I can hear my turbo & the air rushing abit more now. Not as loud like the Open Air on my 9-3, but def enough to make me smile 😉
