      Rutger Gunnarson was a seasoned musician already when recruited by ABBA. His main bass was a Jazz.
      "Dancing Queen" is deceptively hard, and "Knowing Me Knowing You" is extremely non-conventional.

      @@ashgonza92 tricky one! I like to think I'm always getting a little better. I started playing when I was 11 and started doing gigs when I was 12, so that really tightened me up a hell of a lot. I had a really good teacher for my 1st 3 years. I don't feel I've really gotten any better technically since I was about 19 .... 2-3 years of hard work probably laid the foundation for what I still rely on. Diminishing returns after that. I started at age 11

    • @blackisblack22
      @blackisblack22 5 лет назад

      James Maxted I’m just starting, a couple of months ago. I’m 54, how much could I achieve and approximately how much time if I practice 2 hours a day? And what should I focus on first? I can already play some covers published on RUclips so I think I have passed the rookie part but I’m struck in speed.

    • @JamesMaxted
      @JamesMaxted  5 лет назад +2

      @@blackisblack22 Excellent! That's a really good start. If I could start again with my learning I would put priority into arpeggios and pentatonic scales. Practice dead slow and really focus on your timing and quality of notes from both hands. Be relaxed when you play. Only increase the speed when you've really nailed it. Take your time working on one thing at a time rather than spreading yourself too thin. Practicing Arpeggios will help with speed, dexterity, string skipping, ear training and harmony. If there's a specific piece of music you're trying to play that is too fast for you, break it into pieces. Try playing just the first 2 notes over and over, then add the third then fourth etc. Hope that helps

    • @blackisblack22
      @blackisblack22 5 лет назад

      James Maxted I have not really paid attention to scales and arpeggios and now that you mention it sounds right to pause the covers and return to the basics until master it. I appreciate your advice as I see in you someone who is already on the other side and can indicate the path with greater clarity. Thank you very much and be well.

    • @JamesMaxted
      @JamesMaxted  5 лет назад +1

      @@blackisblack22 No problem at all! After a while with a little knowledge of things like arpeggios, you will start seeing and hearing them in Baselines, and you'll start to learn songs a little faster too
