Born and raised in France, I have now lived in Canada for many years (I am older). At the beginning here I always felt "overdressed" not because of any expensive clothes I was wearing but because I always had a scarf, a belt or shoes not sneakers or I will dress up (a bit)for any party where I would find everybody else in jeans and sweatshirt ! so i started to dress down and I lost my french style! Because now It is so much "in trend" to dress like a french girl/woman, I am trying to rediscover that "Je ne sais quoi" which is difficult to grasp when we don't live in France. Your video is really interesting and you are putting your finger on it. The square watch is a good example of what a french woman would wear day and night. As an older woman I would always wear a belt if my jeans/pants have loops. In your intro outfit I would have worn a more dressy belt and black belt to emphasize your beautiful blazer. In general young french women love flats: loafers, ballet flats... When you visit France that is one thing you notice first. Yes for the part 2!!!!...
Ah no!! Casual Canadians influenced you!! Haha I'm glad you're rediscovering your French style!! Thank you so much for watching and the extra tips on flats 🥰
I have a similar experience. Born and raised in and near France, lived in the US going on 23 years now. But I never buckled. I answered the question "why are you all dressed up" as many times as it took (the answer is "I don't have a reason, this is the way I dress"), until people stopped asking. It got easier once I entered the professional world. Now what I hear a lot is "you look so nice, you are making the rest of us look bad". I got worried about hearing that so I asked, but most have told me that they really didn't mean it, they enjoy watching different styles. Everyone at my workplace is professionally dressed, I just do it a little differently. So I don't think I make everyone else look bad. I have no qualms going to the grocery store in heels if that's the shoes that happen to be by my door when I go out (most often the case). The beauty about living in the US is the full freedom of appearance. You can wear pajamas to the store and people won't criticize. You can wear your best professional outfit, and that's fine too. One summer a few years ago, we were in a hat store in South Bretagne where my mom lives. She wanted to buy me a hat for my birthday. I was super tempted by a beautiful, intricate sun hat. But the sales woman (not a very good sales woman) talked me out of picking it because she said the only appropriate occasion to wear a hat like that would be at a wedding. Clearly had never been to the US. There is no non-appropriate occasion. I went with a simpler hat because I didn't want my mom to spend too much on the gift, but had I been alone, that's the hat I would have gotten and yes, worn!
@@Off_the_clock_astrophysicist Very good points: i should have kept wearing what i wanted but my boyfriend now husband was a dress down kind of guy (except on formal occasions!) anyway now older and wiser and more confident: i wear what I want!!!!
I LOVE that you're wearing that GORGEOUS cognac belt with all black. So many women are afraid to mix black and brown which I feel is a rich and beautiful look!
Agree with this one. I can't seem to find a button down that fits like that. Either they're too loose or too small that there are peepholes in my shirt when I sit down. Would I need to go to a tailor for that? Yes to part two for possible brand recommendations!
As a fellow Canadian I think you did an amazing job at avoiding stereotypical French fashion cliches but giving very authentic advice. I follow Marie Anne Lecoeur and she was ranting about all the RUclipsrs who profess to teach French style. You are an exception. Well done. You absolutely nailed it.
I would have liked it if you included some French style icons who were your mom's age or over 50. It is interesting to me how French women approach style as they are aging. Excellent video.
@@rain999wi6 yes, she is good, but has a tendency to fall into the rather momsy classic who drops the grand kids off at school in a gilet. But she does have some good advice. Prefer a bit more edge..never too old for that.
Yes please, all of the things you mentioned. Anything french at all. So classy and relaxed. Please can we also have a post on how to wear linen without looking ‘creased’ and scruffy!
Lynn Scholes I personally don’t wear a lot of linen for this reason, creased clothes, no! But when I do, I hang my garment on hanger, get a empty spray bottle & fill with luke warm water, spray your garment all over & leave to hang & dry! It works for me, so hope this helps. 🙏
French Girl CHIC defined! Gorgeous...every look! I love the black turtleneck with the jeans. Also the white shirt and RED SHOES..OOH LA LA! J'ADORE!! That would be my go-to casual look. I have always loved French Style. I followed it for decades. There are elements that still stay with me....like the VALUES you mentioned. They underline my core style. However, it was while visiting in Paris that I realized I had a definite style...and it was not French. I was complemented on that style and began to think about it. Besides a high quality black turtleneck and slacks....I also have spent decades in cowboy boots, Navajo jewelry, sweeping prairie-like skirts. After Paris, I returned and examined my wardrobe. My cowboy boots were from Italy. My French fringe bag from France....in fact....I love Isabel Marant. Decades of following French values and style have definitely shaped my style for the better. It has only really become more myself when I realized that my soul has always lived in the American Southwest. My deep admiration for the French values and designers have kept the two linked forever in my wardrobe. Actually, I could throw a bit of a Japanese/Erte vibe in the mix as well....but mostly...it is a French-Southwestern U.S. FUSION.
Oooh I love that!! What a great mix and love the point of mixing the values of French style with your own personal style... And it's true Isabel Marant does have a very America -mid west and relaxed vibe ... Thanks as always for watching Lisa in so glad you liked the video! xo
A decade ago my best friend and I did a week in Paris together. Before we packed, we discussed making a big effort to not in any way dress like a stereotypical tacky American tourist. Much to our delight, we were misidentified as French women on 2 separate occasions.... YES! Our style lesson occurred as we watched a Parisian woman effortlessly tying a very complicated bow to sheer perfection sans mirror ... ahhh, to be like her! But what no one told us about beforehand was the beauty of Parisian men. From the guy begging in the subway to the well heeled ....ooh la la for 2 middle-aged American divorcées!!
oh i love this story! And there's nothing better than being mistaken for a local - you clearly nailed your packing and outfits! Thank you so much for watching! xx
Allysa, I never really identified with my French side that much, but now that I've seen this video I realize I am 100% French in the way I approach fashion and the way I dress: perfume, jewelry, shoes, bags, accessories. It makes me good knowing that my first generation French grandma impacted me so much in my fashion choices. I am so glad she did! Love your video and channel. :-)
Alyssa...I think you’ve nailed it! I was just in Paris in February and noticed all these things. I’m particularly impressed by women there of a certain age who look absolutely chic and fashionable without wearing things that seem age inappropriate (like I unfortunately see in the US way too often)
ESpaña!! I put away all my American clothing when I got to Spain, bought new clothes and shoes, and dressed like the natives. The Spaniards have amazing style!
Yesss would love if you could make this a two part video with French aesthetic essentials and recommended brands, especially for curvy women (I’m an hourglass size US 8-10 and struggle with some French brands that are designed for women with less curves).
I’m finally finding my fashion/lifestyle after 40 years. I have come to realize the French way is my sweet spot. I’m looking forward to how it will simplify and streamline my life!!!
LOVE your videos! I'm over 65, have lived in Texas my entire life, and this is my style. You & I have a similar body size & shape. I'm happily retired, but am always on the go. I, too, get compliments on how I always look so nice, so well put together, they cant wait to see what I'll wear next, etc. A gentleman I went out with lately told me he knows no matter where we go, I'll always be "well turned out." We recently went to an opera in Dallas (my first), & I was complimented by 4 younger women & 2 gentlemen on my appearance. I am average looking, so it must have been what I was wearing. I have been asked by my girlfriends to help them shop. I try, but if they have a different body type/shape/size, I'm not much help. I only know what works for me. I hope to find a one month lease on an apt or house in Paris in Spring 2020, so I can relax & enjoy leisurely taking in the sights and also meeting & talking with locals. I don't yet speak French. Any ideas for how I might learn enough in 4 months to get by? Is there a French translation for "y'all"?😉
I love this message so much! I want to know, did you get to Paris? How was it? From your comment, I can tell you're a showstopper of a woman and I hope you're still on your fabulous journey. Update please if you read this 😘💋❤
@Olivia Knight Ahh.. the best laid plans… not to dwell on unhappy events, but 2020 didn’t turn out as planned. Two of my close family members passed away, I was sick myself for six weeks (not Covid, thank Goodness!) and I ended a relationship with a gentleman I had been seeing for over a year. Add to that all the travel and airline uncertainties, and my trip to Paris has been put on the back burner for now. But I believe it’s all in God’s hands and if & when I’m supposed to go it will happen easily. I’m the meantime, Im still enjoying playing with clothes! Slowly but surely I’m downsizing & reorganizing my wardrobe, donating those pieces I rarely wear. If I arrange it one way and it doesn’t feel “right”, I change it. The clothes I’ve kept have more room to breathe, and since it’s easier to see them all at once, I’m finding it much easier to put together more “new to me” outfits using clothes I’ve had but never thought of combining before! I find I’m still having “aha” moments frequently, so I’m taking my time with the process. It’s a little like putting a puzzle together. Just today I thought, since I wear separates 90% of the time, why not move my dresses and skirts into my secondary closet, and move my IKEA chest of drawers into my primary closet to create a prettier storage space for things I wear most often that can be folded? Slowly but surely, all the pieces are beginning to find the place where they belong. Plus, I can just visualize how much joy it will bring some woman who’s thrift shopping to find high quality gently worn clothes at such low prices. Win-win! 😉🥰😁
Excellent! Remember I told you I dress basic with a pop. I call it my Parisian style. Like today I wore a white blouse, black blazer, black pants and my leopard booties lol 🤗🙋🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼ciao Bella! YES please continue with the series. Loved hearing you speak French 😀
Loved everything! As in, every piece and accessory. Also appreciate the fact that these pieces are already in my closet but just don’t know how to style together. Thank you! You are heaven-sent!
Understated elegance is my definition of French woman chic. Few but high quality clothes. The white shirt with jeans and red shoes is one of my favorite outfits. I never seem to get tired of it, and neither of wearing a scarf in many ways ( that my mother taught me). Grazia multo bella for the outfit ideas. You look great in all of them!
Great video and part two would be welcome. I like the splint screen idea. What about showing the non French (North American version) on one side and the French version of same outfit on the other. A type of what not to wear ... You look fabulous in everything. I agree with other commenters that Italian style is amazing and have noticed how well ironed their clothes seem to be, even on holiday. That would be my tip.
Oh interesting idea with the split screen and Italian style suggestion - as well as well pressed clothing - this is so true. Thank you for sharing that tip and for watching! xx
LOVE LOVE LOVE videos like this! This is so much more informative than the ubiquitous "7 trends to ditch after you hit the age of 39.9", etc. All of your points apply to fashion writ large, vs. what to wear because of a certain age. The suggestions apply to everyone. And yes, please do the 2nd video, also one for Italian style!!! Edit: Had to come back after watching the outfits you showed to say just how easy, effortless, but most of all stunning everything you showed is!
Tres bien!!!! I am interested in your suggested second- part; I'd be VERY interested in a 3rd part, though - French women's style for work where no denim is allowed, and no sleeveless anything - but spring/summer focus (this coming week, Phoenix is looking at 4 days of 96-degree F weather).
Yes to suggestions on styling\ stylists that can do. I live in Florida where it’s hot and humid. Emerging from the season of layers which I love- and not sure how to get into a long and hot season!
Love. I just got back from Paris a week ago (first trip) and I loved sitting in cafes admiring French women and now adding some of those elements to my wardrobe
Favorites are white blouse with red shoes , long thin scarf and the black turtleneck. Well curated lookbook. My French girl tip always red lips and nails and no fuss hair. Enjoy the week.
I would LOVE the videos you talked about and as well, I'd love a video on Italian style ❤️ Both my parents are southern Italian but now that my beloved mom is gone, i miss seeing the Italian flare she dressed in. I definitely see that in you and it resonates so well for me! Thank you for all your videos. One of my favourite Sunday morning rituals is watching your video with a strong black cup of coffee! ☕️✨❤️
Indeed, a two part video! I've always been a lover of classic style and when I go off the path I find it often isn't the real me. Always my favorite video of the week 💚
Was also going ask for an Italian-styling video. And perhaps one on the difference between French and Italian style. Would love to see two videos a week as you once mentioned. Love your videos!
Just subbed. I think French style is the epitome of moderation, with a subtle little 'surprise' touch- the watch that has a unique strap, the classic blazer that now has a silver antique button. Be aware of the trends but carefully choose what suits your own style..
I've been living in France now for 5 years and you really nailed it with your advice and video in general. (Biggest compliment for me is now, when people think I m French)
ah wow what a compliment! Thank you! And YES - I love it when I get asked directions when I'm visiting a cool city like Montreal lol - best compliment!) Thanks for watching!
Love 🎉 The lookbook is so helpful and as I am collecting and examining my closet, I can see new configurations and I’m so happy to be on this path 😊 You help a lot!

Bonjour! Merci pour la commentaire sympathique 🥰 malheureusement mon français écris n'est pas aussi bonne que mon français orale mais merci et bisous de Canada!!
I absolutely adore the silk midi skirt you are wearing. I have been on the hunt for just the right cut and fabric. This trumpet style is perfect! No fussy pleats that can emphasize hips, and has an easy fluid movement that doesn’t billow like a circus tent.
ah thank you! It wasn't on my shopping list but when I saw it everything you so eloquently wrote came into my head! It's timeless :) Thanks for watching! xx
I loved this video, thank you Alyssa. Yes pls make a second one. Also pls make a video about dresses, how to choose a good one according to the season and my body type. Thanks 😘😘
Alyssa Beltempo Actually I love wearing dresses but I’m always confused when it comes to choosing them for different occasions and as I’m petite my choices are a bit limited. Thank you Alyssa, and I’m sure the result will be great as always!
By far the best Parisian style video I've watched on RUclips. Effortless, refined, timeless, polished and cool looks. And practical tips to boot. , Videos I'd like to see next: Best white button downs - so quintessential, yet hard to find the perfect one. I love the one in this video. A guide to Italian style - less popular find on youtube, yet they, IMO, are the best dressers. Masters at the tailored, sexy, silhouette- flattering style. Keep up the good work! EDIT: looks like many of us agree on your next video ;-)
Loved this video! Your lookbook was tres chic! I’ve been a subscriber for awhile and I have to say you’ve been putting out some awesome content lately. Keep it going!
oh wow thank you for the wonderful encouragement, I'm so glad you're still enjoying the content :) So appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment xox
Bonjour du Québec! J'adore vos vidéos Alyssa. Merci pour votre excellent travail. Vous êtes très inspirante pour quelqu'un comme moi qui est passionnée par la « slow fashion ». Et votre français est super!
I love you Alyssa! Your style vibe is sooooo me!! You are my favorite. Not sure if you’ve already made a video on this- but I’d love to see a compilation of your top 20-30 favorite looks- that would be great! Love the dancing and the smiles. 😘 from California
It helps to be thin to carry off these looks, which are beautiful and classy. I’m quite curvy and the more I layer sweaters, blouses, jackets, the bulkier I look.
Dang woman, you nailed it AGAIN! Parisian Chic comes oh si naturel a toi! A great accessory in this segment was the chair. I swore you were seated at a Café. ; ) And as always your style confidence, just oozes from within and is your best accessory. That flawless French accent was sur le point as well! Magnifique Alyssa!
French girl style suits you well Alyssa. I like the clean crisp lines of it too. Looks #1 and #3 were the simplest and easiest to pull off for me. I love ankle boots. Yes to part two.
I would love to know who you follow and French brands that you love. I really liked the second look. I always look forward to your channel. I want to thank you for all the effort you put into your channel.
These tips are all my style goals - timeless, quality over quantity, little edgy, high low mixing, etc. I would gladly trade everything in my closet and start over if I could have this much effortless style.
Beautiful, Alyssa! Loved the new white silk skirt look, and YES PLEASE to the French essentials video. Such a great idea. Also loved your little make believe French cafe in the living room, where you were just chilling on a sunny afternoon and people watching while being chic and oh so French ;) Always enjoy spending a bit of my Sunday morning in Alyssa's world 💖🙏
Ahaha thats exactly what I was imagining!! Just missing the latte 😘 I'm so glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much for letting me into your Sunday routine Natalya! xx
I just found you and I’m in love! You are lovely and your looks are spot on! I’m 73 but I can take your looks and translate for me! I smiled thru the whole video! BTW: my hair is a little below my shoulders and natural color of white. I’m letting it grow longer. Why not?? Lolol 🌹
Thank you Robin for the kind comment! I'm so glad the looks resonated with you! YES to longer hair give it a try! I love the look of natural white hair :) xx

The white shirt with jeans and red shoes is one of my favorite outfits. I never seem to get tired of it, and neither of wearing a scarf in many ways ( that my mother taught me).
Grazia multo bella for the outfit ideas. You look great in all of them!
I think that's one of my favourite combos too! Never gets old :) thanks so much for watching Jacqueline xx
Loved your video!
Thank you for sharing that tip and for watching! xx
Spot on about how well pressed Italian clothing is. Nothing effortless looking about Italian style even when the outfit is rather simple.
My favorite is the jeans, striped shirt, grey sweater, and blazer. Just LOVE it!
yay! So glad you liked that look Melissa!
I love your content. I am 60 and have always loved classic style; but always with a surprise pop of current edge!
Sounds awesome Loriann love a bit of edge!
Ooh that's interesting!! Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!
Central Texas here, we're not as hot but I can relate. We're lucky and are allowed denim at work (city library). Keep cool!
Yes to suggestions on styling\ stylists that can do. I live in Florida where it’s hot and humid. Emerging from the season of layers which I love- and not sure how to get into a long and hot season!
I am French, living in Paris and I loved it!!
oh wow this is the greatest compliment, thank you!! xx
Love. I just got back from Paris a week ago (first trip) and I loved sitting in cafes admiring French women and now adding some of those elements to my wardrobe
Oh wow hope you had an awesome trip!! xox
Favorites are white blouse with red shoes , long thin scarf and the black turtleneck. Well curated lookbook. My French girl tip always red lips and nails and no fuss hair. Enjoy the week.
ah yes! Nails and easy hair! I may have to incorporate beauty into part 2! Thanks for sharing and commenting! xx
Aw what a great suggestion, and I'm sorry to hear about your mom. Thank you for the lovely compliment and for including me in your Sunday routine! 🥰
Love love love the french woman chic .... yes, Part 2 please! Have a great week!
Sounds great Heather thanks for watching! xx

My favorite was the red pumps and the white button down. Classic chic all the way
Ah thank you that is a staple for me!
Indeed, a two part video! I've always been a lover of classic style and when I go off the path I find it often isn't the real me. Always my favorite video of the week 💚
Aw what a sweet comment thank you! Part 2 is on the task list! xo

The blazer with the grey sweater and striped shirt is excellent .Also the white skirt look . J'adore.Thank you .
Was also going ask for an Italian-styling video. And perhaps one on the difference between French and Italian style. Would love to see two videos a week as you once mentioned. Love your videos!
Great suggestions and yes :) working towards putting out more content, so glad you're still interested! Thanks for watching!
My favorite look was the layered look with the black blazer and striped shirt!
Thanks for watching! xx
Thanks Alyssa! Would love to see a sequel. Merci beaucoup!
Awesome, thank you Julia! xx
Just subbed. I think French style is the epitome of moderation, with a subtle little 'surprise' touch- the watch that has a unique strap, the classic blazer that now has a silver antique button. Be aware of the trends but carefully choose what suits your own style..
you are so right and I think you really hit the nail on the head there. Thanks for sharing and watching:)
Excellent study of French style.
Thank you so much Stella!
Outfits 3,4,7 were exactly what I envision when I think French. But wow how I loved the last outfit!!! It was girly and playful yet chic and wise.
I have always enjoyed the french style. Thanks for the ideas!
Glad you liked them, thank you fo rwatching! xx
Loving the red heel combo, and the cream colored skirt with the quarter inch sleeves. Merci beaucoup! 💖

the best Guide for the French style
Sequel please ... hard to pick a favorite because you look great in everything but love the white pant and camel color top .
Thanks Crystal 🥰 glad you liked it and hope you have a great week xx
I absolutely adore the silk midi skirt you are wearing. I have been on the hunt for just the right cut and fabric. This trumpet style is perfect! No fussy pleats that can emphasize hips, and has an easy fluid movement that doesn’t billow like a circus tent.
ah thank you! It wasn't on my shopping list but when I saw it everything you so eloquently wrote came into my head! It's timeless :) Thanks for watching! xx
Hi Alyssa, I love how simple yet chic these outfits are. Great video! xo, SS
So glad you liked them thank you for watching Sue! xx
I really liked the blue and white striped shirt under the grey sweater and worn with the dark blazer. Chic!
I loved this video, thank you Alyssa. Yes pls make a second one. Also pls make a video about dresses, how to choose a good one according to the season and my body type. Thanks 😘😘
Hi Angie, great suggestion thank you! I am not a dress expert but this would be great experience 🥰
Alyssa Beltempo Actually I love wearing dresses but I’m always confused when it comes to choosing them for different occasions and as I’m petite my choices are a bit limited. Thank you Alyssa, and I’m sure the result will be great as always!
Great video. Loved the look book. Pls make a second part.
Thank you so much for watching!
Loved your video...please do another! Such effortless style!
Sounds good thank you for watching Debbie!
Love all these looks. The button down shirt with jeans and red pumps was a fave. You have great hair.
Thank you so much! That's a staple for me too!
By far the best Parisian style video I've watched on RUclips. Effortless, refined, timeless, polished and cool looks. And practical tips to boot.
,
Videos I'd like to see next:
Best white button downs - so quintessential, yet hard to find the perfect one. I love the one in this video.
A guide to Italian style - less popular find on youtube, yet they, IMO, are the best dressers. Masters at the tailored, sexy, silhouette- flattering style.
Keep up the good work!
EDIT: looks like many of us agree on your next video ;-)
ah thank you so much! I will definitely take on Italian style next - and thanks for the other suggestions! :)
Yes. Please make a second part. I always look forward to your Sunday postings. Somehow they are very relaxing. ❤️

Always love the lookbooks. You make dressing chic look so easy! Love your style and your whole approach to fashion is refreshing xo
Ah I'm so glad!! Thank you for the sweet compliment 😘😘
It helps to be thin to carry off these looks, which are beautiful and classy. I’m quite curvy and the more I layer sweaters, blouses, jackets, the bulkier I look.
Liked before watching! You are adorable, Alyssa!
R. Z. Me, too. 😉
Aw thank you that means so much 🥰
I totally agree!🥰
@@janholder2286 so kind thanks Jan! xoxo
Yes, please make the second part of the video with the list of brands, youtubers, etc.

Magnifique Alyssa!
aw merci beaucoup for this wonderful comment:) Really lifted me up! I'm so glad you enjoyed it and approve of my accent:) Thank you for watching! xx
This the best fashion video I've ever seen. Well done and thank you!

Those red high heels with the white shirt and jeans. POW! I loved all the outfits. You really know how to put it all together.
French girl style suits you well Alyssa. I like the clean crisp lines of it too. Looks #1 and #3 were the simplest and easiest to pull off for me. I love ankle boots.

These tips are all my style goals - timeless, quality over quantity, little edgy, high low mixing, etc. I would gladly trade everything in my closet and start over if I could have this much effortless style.

I just found you and I’m in love! You are lovely and your looks are spot on! I’m 73 but I can take your looks and translate for me! I smiled thru the whole video! BTW: my hair is a little below my shoulders and natural color of white. I’m letting it grow longer. Why not?? Lolol 🌹
