  • The Rugrats reboot, Big Nate, the Blue's Clues reboot, and more original Nickelodeon shows are in the process of being deleted. Following in the footsteps of Warner Bros Discovery's tax write-offs, Paramount removed a bunch of Nickelodeon titles from their streaming service. What's going on?

    We need to revise copyright law so when companies do stuff like this, the stuff they write off doesn't belong to the IRS or anything, but they're public domain.
    Edit: Thinking about it, we should also make it so that prototypes of released stuff and abandoned works are considered public domain. Same with works that don't get official releases in the United States and other places. I think Nintendo would be more inclined to release Mother 3 internationally and we'd get more stuff that's not been lost showing up legally.

    • @electrobob992
      @electrobob992 Месяц назад +2

      Still think they should apply something similar to home owners that can't pay their mortgage, where the bank takes ownership of the house can auction it off.
      But in this case the "home" is the content of either series or movie, while the bank is the IRS.
      Basically if a company writes a show or movie off for a quick buck like this, they lose ALL ownership of it. With said ownership being auctioned off, meanwhile the content would be public domain until it gets auctioned off.
      There NEEDS to be a downside for the company. Sure they get money but WHAT is the downside.
      So far there is NOTHING.

    • @Ness_and_Sonic
      @Ness_and_Sonic Месяц назад +1

      @@electrobob992 It would be interesting, but I would think there needs to be things in place to make sure they keep using it legitimately if we go that route. Example, a fee to maintain a copyright past the 10th year that increase as a work gets older. I don't want things to just disappear because the creator doesn't feel like providing it as there's been plenty of things that don't see the light of day or have been MIA for some time. Mother 3 in English, Bubsy (vanished for over a decade after that PS1 game), the Dinosaur Planet prototype, Go! Go! Hypergrind, etc. And those are just video games.

    • @JamesTDG
      @JamesTDG Месяц назад +2

      Honestly, the ruling should be this: if a company refuses to distribute a piece of media for x-amount of years, the media becomes public domain and all ownership of characters revert back to their creators

    • @Ness_and_Sonic
      @Ness_and_Sonic Месяц назад

      @@JamesTDG I like the way you think, but it can be difficult if the original creator is dead as is the case with Dragon Ball and Yu-Gi-Oh! Plus there's also things such as maybe claiming they're distributing outside the States to claim it's not public domain, so that is another factor among other possible things that would need clearing up.

      Piracy has always preserved content and it was widely accepted in the past among consumers. It’s just the 2010s and 2020s has taken to burying that side of the piracy discourse. Honestly, I hate how they’re removing a lot of shows for supposedly not doing well. Hell, they even removed Back at the Barnyard along with its movie. I loved that show as a kid… It’s like they lost the purpose of streaming services. We have these to watch any shows of our choosing. Whether it’s a new series or a classic, they have stuff for everyone to enjoy at anytime. Especially some shows that haven’t been aired on normal television for over a decade or two. I swear, it’s like all of a sudden, Warner Bros. and Paramount hate animation. Something tells me the same is gonna happen across all of the other streaming services, and companies too. It’s like they want to try and extinguish animation off the face of the Earth. I _really_ hope that that will not happen… Animated shows are unique to watch. They have a nice change of pace from live-action shows.

    Yeah... They really need to change Tax Write offs in regards to content.
    My idea... Treat them like homes that can't pay their mortgage, in that the bank takes ownership of them and... They get auctioned off.
    Like that's it, but changed to fit the context.
    Basically:
    If a company writes a show or movie off for tax purposes, the IRS gains TOTAL ownership of it and can SELL the property to other buyers. *Also becomes public domain until a new owner is announced. With no legal ramifications to ANYONE who uploads it during this time. The OG company can't fire the leaking employee or anything either.*
    With the added stipulation that the company that sold it can NOT buy it back, as well as they can no longer claim ownership of it. Copyright or otherwise.
    Possibly even the characters involved.
    Since after all, as we saw with that Coyote V. ACME movie. They can be written off before they even release, all the hype wasted.
    This needs to END.
