  • Bodycam footage shows Ohio police responding to a false threat and handcuffing RUclipsr Darren "IShowSpeed" Watkins on August 8. An officer told Watkins that someone called 911 using his name and told police that he was going to hurt himself and his family. Officers let Watkins go after determining the threat to be false.

      You dont know the reality of the whole situation so dont make conclusions. It was speed who prank called 911 and said his life is in danger by screaming and made police come over, it was only after that someone swatted him . this was a case of a troll getting pranked, so theres nothing to feel bad for him, he is not some innocent civilian. It was just a publicity stunt for him, and neither we knew who is the swat caller, it could be very much be his team itself doing it for fame as you can see his friends were saying "you're fine" and kept on recording him and never showed any worry.

      In order for cops to be allowed to take someone like this, they must have some normal evidence of the crime.

      What are you talking about? Most police know what swatting is at this point, it's not new. Even the ones in the video mentioned the kid that got killed.     There seriously needs to be harsh penalties to the trolls who do this, someone could easily get hurt or killed. There's nothing amusing about calling 911 and having the police do this to someone. Imagine just being home relaxing, doorbell rings and it's the police. Then putting you into hand cuffs, having to explain wtf is going on once you're cuffed and ruining your entire day.

      That's not even the worst of it, the worst part is when the cops don't even announce themselves and just barge the door down after being told there is an active shooter or something like that.     It’s about time police hear about swattings aswell. There must have been hundreds over the years.
    It seems like every time there is a swatting and the person is trying to explain, no one in the police has ever heard of the concept.
    But these streamers / youtubers should also learn to say: "one of you guys pull up your phone and Google me". I understand it’s very stressfull in the moment but they should reherse that line over and over tbh.
    Like the officer said, someone might be killed during this.

      Everyone with blurred faces in this vid are minors, who are legally required to have their faces blurred in public release footage like this. The other individuals (like his parents) were old enough to not have this happen.

      They have a protocol they have to follow for safety reasons. It's not ideal to handcuff the person who is being victimized in this situation, but you have to remember, these people are walking into a situation almost completely blind. They don't know him from Adam. For all they know, there could be a very legitimate danger there.

      I can’t see a successful way to stop or punish swatters. You can use a public phone or a burner phone to make a call and dip. The 911 dispatchers have to accept all calls.
