Let's get started with some fun facts about panthers.
Regrettably Panthers, are an endangered animal and listed as such,
in some places around the world. They are in need of our protection!
This fascinating cat known as a the "panther" actually refers to 3 types of big cats, leopards or jaguars that have a black or white color mutation
and a subspecies of the cougar (Puma concolor).
The light tan colored Florida panther is found in North America.
You could be lucky and catch a glimpse of a panther during the day in captivity but in the wild they are nocturnal and hard to find!
In daylight hours you would most likely find one sleeping in a tree.
The "black panther" is a black jaguar of the Americas or a black leopard of Asia and Africa.

Actually, the Leopard (Panthera pardus) is the only true panther, the Jaguar (Jaguarius onca) is different, which is why the term "black panther" applies only to melanistic leopards, while melanistic jaguars are just called jaguars.

    • @Leo-iZ177

Both Jaguar and leopard that are melanistic are called Black Panther in fact any big cat belonging to The Pantherinae family (lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars and snow leopards) are technically black panthers but the melanistic gene is very common among jaguars and leopards a simple Google search could have told you that fact

@Leo-iZ177, first of all, you're confusing families with genera, second, the term "black panther" applies only to melanistic versions of the leopard (Panthera pardus) because the leopard is the only "true" panther, also, the tiger, ounce, and jaguar do not belong to the Panthera genus anymore, they are more closely related to the bohebaos (genus Neofelis) than they are to the leopard or lion, the tiger and ounce both now belong to the genus Uncia, while the jaguar belongs to the genus Jaguarius, with the bohebaos (genus Neofelis) being the closest to the jaguar (Jaguarius onca).
