I live in central Arkansas in a wooded area. My neighbor and I have been hearing a big cat for months in the evenings. I was hoping it was just a bobcat but it sounds exactly like this puma. She’s been very close a couple of times as it was just after locking my chickens up but was too dark to see her/him.
I have a cat that likes to get out through any opening…and when he does…I give him some time then I’ll go outside and call to him…when I yell his name, he will respond in a very similar meow. He ONLY does it when he’s outside alone and he’s trying to find his way back. Cats are all so similar. Very cool.
I lived in Napa, CA. up a canyon that had very few houses, mostly woods like in this video. I would hear some strange sounds at night, one of which was exactly like this Puma screaming. I could never figure out what it was, now I know! Another sound we heard at night was very odd and didn't know what is was until I saw a video on "What the Fox says" thanks for this video
three weeks ago i was in the backyard with my dog. I watched this video the week prior suddenly i heard a sound at my fence. It was 8pm or so, dark. "Oh look Maggie, time to go in the house." I have about 40 game cams up and I've seen her and her two cubs 4 times over 3 nights. A creek runs through our ranch up here so the critters do to.
Absolute magnificent and powerful creature. People have to respect this legendary animal ‘s space, peace and environment. It’s so unfortunate when one has to be killed.
Big cats should never be killed. If a human ventures in the woods, their territory, they should NOT be allowed to be arm. Otherwise, don't go in THEIR environment w/ the intention that if you do see a bear, A puma or whatever species you either scare him off or run up a tree. Killing is NOT an option. Animal life , any wildlife is PRECIOUS. Humans are the predators in this world.

For 20 years, my wife and I lived in a small mountain territorial-style house in the Cibola National Forest of north central New Mexico, on the very edge of an area designated as wilderness. There had been no hunting for 70+ years. We were in the territory of a young, active female puma, who was a frequent visitor in the night, as well as at dusk and dawn. Her footprints would usually overlay my own , on my daily hikes through her home range. Changes your perspective.

I was trying to sleep out in the open in the coastal Redwood forest, pitch black couldn't see a thing, when I heard this scream and it pierced my body into my soul.
I remember the first time I heard a Mtn lion scream while we were out deer/hog hunting in California. I legit thought it was a lady screaming until my dad said, no, that’s a Mtn lion. I lived in California for most of my growing up years and hunted my whole life, and had never seen one. But hearing it and not seeing it was literally bone chilling. Then a few years ago, my family was out hunting and a Mtn lion was stalking a guy walking down a valley to flush out any possible deer. Luckily his hunting partners were watching him as he was coming down the Mtn, and noticed he was being being stalked, and only about 30 yards above him. His friends, although sketchy, shot in his direction to kill it before it was able to get him. I have always wanted to actually see one, just never in that sort of circumstance. Amazing creatures though.
All wild felines seem to be among the most elusive of creatures. I have spent most of my 66 years in the rural areas of Western Massachusetts. Over the years have seen many black bear, deer, moose and many other smaller forms of wildlife. But even though the bobcat population is considered to be relatively large in pretty much every state, i have only seen one in the wild. I would wager that both you and i have been seen hundreds of times by wild cats over the years of spending time in the woods.
Ya, I never saw one. Heard one close and bone chilling is the correct term. I've seen fishers, marten, black bear, and possibly a wolverine...which shocked me, but never a cougar. Western Washington near mount St Helens
@@tonyprice2256 I’ve seen quite a few wild bobcats. Very cool animals as well. Actually was out shooting squirrels with my daughter, brother and dad, and a bobcat came out of the tree line and ran and snagged a squirrel that my brother had just shot off of a fence post about 30 yards from the cat, then immediately ran back into the trees. Was so crazy to witness. Super cool. I live on our family cattle ranch in Montana now, and our rancher neighbor about 3 miles away has seen a few mountain lions on his property. So they’re definitely around here. I still want to see one, but also don’t want to risk our cattle either. Kind of a catch 22. Haha

That's because domestic cats, pumas, and most are both from the subfamily Felinae (sometimes referred to as the "small cat"). The "Big Cats" are from the subfamily Pantherinae.
Pumas/cougars/panthers/mountain lions are giant cats, just not part of the family officially called “big cats”. Therefore they’re closer to lynxes and bobcats than they are to tigers and jaguars.
I WAS hiking and off in the thick brush about 50 yards away I heard this. It wasn't as loud as this mountain lion is sounding, but I immediately knew what it was. The hair on the back of my neck was standing up. I fortunately was right next to my car, and I quickly got inside, with windows just cracked. I didn't hear it again.
I think that’s what’s going on in this particular clip. A few weeks earlier, this same male lion, was in front of this camera, caterwauling, while trying to reach out to a nearby female lion. This time though, I think this was more about being territorial, considering there was a different male lion here, only 20 minutes after this.

My aunt heard one of these at night and thought it was a woman screaming. It shook her so much she doesn't even like to talk about it 😂
He was looking at the camera in the beginning like “alright you ready?” Then in the middle like “how was that?” 😂
Such a beautiful cat! Magnificent!
Mesmerizing. Beautiful.
These cats are my number one favorite. After seeing you have more of them on your channel, I HAD to subscribe. Thx so much for sharing incredible captures that I will never see in person.
My little sister is going camping in the back yard with her friend. Can't wait to blast this on a speaker outside her tent in the middle of the night.
What a beautiful creature 😍
She seems to be calling her cubs. Love this
0:01 ' is everyone ready?'
“Yo you recording?”
I made this same noise when lakers got put out the playoffs….
Wow! Thank you for sharing!
Finally!!! I backpack around SoCal doing 3-7 day solo trips and on a week long adventure in a secret spot on Palomar mountain this sound/scream woke me wide awake. It was at 1am these 3 screams went off probably 20yds from my tent. Freaked me out for 10-15sec and then back to sleep I went 😂

Love hearing these wild cat calls!
Fantastic work my friend! Great captures! Carry on! Jasonbear
Thank you my friend!
This Sound was amazing, great capture👍
I have heard these kitties hold that scream, it turns into a guttural roar. And at the end of the roar it just doesn't sound like a mountain lion.
That wasn't what I expected but, that puma looks like it could tear anyone a new one in seconds... Freaking awesome 👍
Do you imagine being alone, in the wilds, and, all of a sudden, you hear this scary sound in the air?🥶🥶
nah, you hear this you know your gucci. avg Male (human) weighs 100lbs more than this thing, and while claws hurt, gouging out its eyes hurts a fair bit more.
@@kikoredogthere's no way u think u could win against a puma
what about wolf/coyote howls
@@revvv1221 We have hands, elbows, feet, knees, our body weight, teeth. The hand can be used to punch, hammer fist, palm or gouge eyes like the OP said. You have to know how to use it all together, 99% chance of getting hurt, 1% of being able to grapple it. We can also strangle while using knees.

Heard this whilst hiking with my adolescent child in the forest. Absolutely amazing and yet terrifying at the same time. Was around dusk time. Got 2 photos. We felt ALIVE yet safe. One of the most beautiful sounds one can safely hear. Keyword safely. Hike responsibly. Back away. Make loud noises. Have big hiking sticks. Ooen jacket. Make yourself loon big. They usually are more scared of us. They just big kitties
A very gorgeous cougar, so resplendent and beautiful. Love him, he is magnificent. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️👍🙌😍😘🥰
Beautiful footage, thanks
friend of mine leading a group into the jungle in the Amazon heard two pumas (most likely mother and cub). He said it was frightening as they were unarmed.
Such beautiful animals and so powerful, but reserved.
Thank you!
Saw one of these deer hunting in Tennessee,,,,,,heard that screaming cry long way off and next thing ya know it walked past me ,,,,,,I was up in a tree,,,,,,,what a pretty cat .
Such an awesome capture!!
Thank you you have the best videos. I've watched 4x. About to watch for 5X. The sound is intriguingly beautiful. Thank you thank you. Fascinating. 🕊️🙋♀️💜
Very cool.
You know what they say, a cats are cats no matter the size.
I heard that recently while camping in the Wallowa mountains in e Oregon.
I lived in Napa, CA. up a canyon that had very few houses, mostly woods like in this video. I would hear some strange sounds at night, one of which was exactly like this Puma screaming. I could never figure out what it was, now I know! Another sound we heard at night was very odd and didn't know what is was until I saw a video on "What the Fox says"
thanks for this video
Ok, but have you ever heard a jaguar roar? It's much scarier. ruclips.net/video/jvO6uqhWD3g/видео.html

My cat heard this and came running over to investigate.
What a magnificent animal.
She is beautiful!
Heard that one night in my woods when I took my Lab out. She beat me back to the house.
It’s fascinating to see animals recognize by instinct, they’re outranked.
What an absolutely gorgeous animal 😍
three weeks ago i was in the backyard with my dog. I watched this video the week prior suddenly i heard a sound at my fence. It was 8pm or so, dark. "Oh look Maggie, time to go in the house."
I have about 40 game cams up and I've seen her and her two cubs 4 times over 3 nights. A creek runs through our ranch up here so the critters do to.
I was camping in the White Mountains of Arizona and believe me that sound will get your attention.
I love mountain lions so much!🧡😺👍
The birds were like, "okay, that's all we needed to know, let's get TF outta here"!!!!
A Puma never "has to be" killed.
@@annanardo2358 ... to be armed*
Such a cute little yell from such a dangerous little creature☠☠☠
I was camping on a logging road out in the sticks around Kennedy Meadows Ca and one night I heard that, I got out of my bag so fast, gun in hand because it was the most blood curdling sounds I ever heard! I will never forget that!
Beautiful animal. It's coloring is amazing. I just figure it would have more of a growl than a shriek.❤
Open plains, growl travels. In bush it doesn’t so a shriek is far more effective.
It truly is .
Shriek....bone chilling & unworldly
They'll growl and hiss much like a normal house cat would. Just sneak up on one and scare it you'll see what I mean
Changes your perspective.
omg thank you for sharing this! They are such majestic creatures. No canine lives solitary, only felines, and the largest land predator is a Tiger...
* You forgot the Polar Bear.
@@charlessmith4242 True. And the largest polar bear ever known weighed more than a ton and when standing upright, was just over 11 feet tall. That one was a real monster.
Polar bear is the largest
Foxes and coyotes are often solitary, although not to the degree as many felines
@@guzman3223 * Coyotes are pack animals like the wolf. Ever hear of a Lobo wolf? These wolves are usually male wolves that have been kicked out of the pack, and are looking to establish their own territory or have been replaced by a new pack leader.
When, "Here, kitty kitty kitty" goes horribly wrong.
I used to hear this sound in my woods in Indiana. I always imagined it was a cat of some kind but just figured it was a bobcat. I'm still not sure. The woods around here a thick and people are few so a big cat could live here undetected pretty easily
bobcats scream as well
I heard this at Brown County State Park in April 1977. I didn't know what it was. To tell you the truth I thought it was a bird. This was just at dawn by the earthen dam at that lake way back inside the park.
@@mirrorblue100 I know a guy who was walking a trail in Brown County Park with his German shepherd about ten years ago and a timber rattlesnake bit his dog in the face. I wouldn't have thought those snakes lived in Indiana but apparently they do. I suppose the same thing could be said of big predatory cats. There's plenty of wooded areas for a nocturnal animal to go undetected
I have seen rattlers around Lake Monroe. Give them a wide berth.@@PlayerToBeNamedLater1973
What a face! What a profile! Gorgeous!
Puma Messi from Penza sounds pretty similar when his human dad Sasha leaves him for more than 3 minutes, bless his loving gentle soul... ♥️🏡🎎⚽🐹🥑🐆🌄
The best!
Yes ! I watch Messi and his dad Sasha every day ! Messi can be clingy when Sasha is out of his sight, he calls out for his dad . Sleeps in dads bed, has his own in house "den" . Messi wants for nothing. A lucky puma he is. 😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
Yeah I love his squawky meow. :)
What an amazing call… I will remember. Thank you for this video❤😊😊😊
They are such beautiful animals 🥰
Haha

He's calling for his friend. He can't find his friend. And he's been looking for a long time. ...any cat whispered can see and sense that. Poor cat.. He's beautiful though, but lonely without his friend, and he turned up a notch. Hope he finds him. 🤔😍😍😍😍😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
As deadly as they are, to me they resemble domestic cats more so than the other bigger cats do.
Such a magnificent cat ! ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
Scared as hell if I was hiking and heard that.
Hikers are often fooled by them thinking it's a woman in distress so they go off the trail and normally end up getting lost
What a beautiful animal. and what a Lonesome cry.
Why is he screaming? Telling other cougars his territory?
I think that’s what’s going on in this particular clip. A few weeks earlier, this same male lion, was in front of this camera, caterwauling, while trying to reach out to a nearby female lion. This time though, I think this was more about being territorial, considering there was a different male lion here, only 20 minutes after this.
Wow❤❤ Thanks for sharing. What a magnificent animal.
Looks terrifying but makes kawai noises😂
Sounds like a anxiety ridden cat trying to scream but suffering from laryngitis.
This is definitely the Mike Tyson of large cats.
