Its marvelous how many of us are here because of australian fires. It shows that we care about this species. Really hoping koalas will be able to survive this huge threat.

unlike any animal, koalas cannot comprehend that fire is dangerous. They only know it's painful when they are burned by it.

You are obviously joking ... over the decades I've seen them throughout the country from east to west and top to bottom .... during the 60's dead ones were seen on the roads everywhere ... these days it's not so common to see a dead one .... during the past 50 years about 90% have disappeared mainly due to blindness and diseases
@honkster 7 I'm talking late fifties to early sixties I saw a few in the south west .... saw one near Busselton in 1971 .... haven't spent much time in WA during the past forty years so can't comment on the recent past.

My son has so many koala like things. He was born with 2 fingers stuck together, looks like one, has a round back and likes to hug us.
They can do damage with those claws if you try to make them do something they don't want to do like getting off a road, A friend of mine tried to get one sitting in the middle of the road to move and got some nice stitches in return
Yeh I paid to hold one when I was in Hamilton Island not long ago, and I freaked out when I saw it’s claws. All the tourists were eyeing me like I was crazy, but iv’e heard they can be vicious and I’m a chicken.
