    Really enjoy the your videos Jimmy! My boyfriend found your channel this last summer and loves creating things and learning new crafts. Now I'm subscribed. He's a Patreon subscriber too, and listens to the Making It podcast regularly. We love your content. Keep being awesome! ♡ And ignore the negativity, you've gotta make ends meat somehow. Hi Jimmy DiResta, I am a dutch man and was wandering that there are so much old things still in America like your dogtag machine and printing machine. You got more machines in your shop than I can find in the whole of the Netherlands 😂. Love the videos 👌

    • @CMTHFAF
      @CMTHFAF 6 лет назад +1

      Jojo Rengers - Hi from Colorado. The Netherlands is on my list of places to travel to. Such a beautiful country.
      As for your interesting comment. I suspect the reasons we have a lot of old stuff in America is 3-fold.
      1st, our history is much so shorter than Europe, so perhaps we cling to things from the past for identity?
      2nd, we have plenty of area to store stuff in. Plus, because we have so much area, it’s not uncommon to simply build another shed rather than clean the old one out.
      3rd, because we appreciate old stuff, when a homestead, or old private business, is sold people want the old stuff and it’s not thrown away.
      I hope Jimmy sees your comment. I’d be curious about his thoughts.

    • @jojorengers5368
      @jojorengers5368 6 лет назад +1

      CMTHFAF yes, you are right about a small country but we had a big war also. Everything that was possible to recycle we melded down and was put to use. And we still do. So oldtimers are a few left. And th thing Jimmy has in his shop are expensive over here. Got a and ill for 350 euro that is around 380$ , that was cheap. I am lucky to be a barber that hears a lot so I can have a bargain so now and then. Got a blacksmith shop for 150 euro without the anvill. 👍 greetings from waalre 🌷

      Europe had a war so alot was destroyed

    • @jimporter
      @jimporter 6 лет назад +1

      During WWII a lot of old iron here was recycled for the war effort you can still see the effect in a number of town centres where metal railings were removed and recycled and you can still see where they were cut off.

    A little different than the typical Diresta Vlog - I like it! Can’t wait to see what you can do with the big CNC. Keep it up dude!

  • @johnware5312
    @johnware5312 6 лет назад +2

    Heh Love the CNC as a shop tool. I have a total home brew almost exactly the same size as the 2 by 3 feet shopbot one and its overall preformance is a bit better. Now that you got the electric termite up and running, take a look at fusion 360. Its typical of the programs used to make state of the art fighter aircraft. Also take a look at Blender, an open source, free 3d rendering program. Just export the models as a stl file that V-carve supports and forget all about the animation part of blender.
    I also use V-carve but I find the cad functions of it marginally useful but good enough for reasonably simple 2 and 2.5D stuff. I highly recommend some sort of cheap basic 2d cad program to work up flat stuff with then export the file as a DXF file. Import the DFX file into V-carve to do the toolpathing. Sketchup is reasonably workable for this.
    Have a blast with the CNC... Its a whole new world of doing things. In addition its can be some "hired help" you dont have to pay other than the power and maintenance costs. It also dont argue with you for days off etc... :) Ive been tempted to make myself another small one of say roughly a fot square working area just to make all those weird shaped holes it seems you always have to do by hand. Just drop it on the plywood, zero it out and hit the button..
    Bottom line ----- from the VERY limited tinkering i have done with some small shopbots I wont hesitate to recommend one as an option.

    I thought Shopbot was supposed to be a sort of "alternative" market and choice for a more affordable CNC router. Their prices are almost twice that of Laguna and CNC router parts! So Shopbot is a "high end" luxury CNC option? I'm really considering getting a CNC and it's come down to Laguna's IQ series and CNC Router Parts. Laguna is around $6500 and CNC Router Parts is around $6000 with equivalent set up. Shopbot appears to be close to $10,000 for same thing?

    okay on the dollar shave club spot... just get a safety razor. blades are about 10 cents each. the blades are recyclable as well since they are just a bit of metal. Safety razors seems to be pretty affordable on the low end, $25-$45 gets something that looks decent from amazon you could of course spend how ever much more than that you want. Even if you shaved everyday and used a new blade, that works out to about $3/month in blades.
    I'm not sure how dollar shave club could be lower cost than that.

    Shopbot is like a room of time served carpenters, most anything they could do, it can do but repeatedly, each identical & made to order so no inventory waiting for buyers. Perhaps several time served carpenters could do a little better, but this looks good enough & is far cheaper. The 21st century is cruel to human skills, but for the end user it is a time of unprecedented choice, quality & low prices; a time of huge change. Thanks for sharing!
