thas a frog jimmy not a bird thanks for sharing
hahaha i should have known...
Yep my vote frog possibly toad.
To be honest we have birds that make a frog sound. It's to lure other frogs to their doom. I couldn't tell over headphones.
I laughed so hard when he said weird bird
Yup tree frog. We've got one using our gas grill for an echo chamber right now.
Jimmy I would rethink the can crushing if you are going to use pop cans. I have been tinkering with an electric foundry and have melted quite a few cans. I find that they melt much faster if you just feed them in uncrushed and if you make sure to put the open end up it allows for any steam from pop still in the can to safely escape. I learned that you really don't want boiling water/pop in a closed container submerged under molten aluminium. As an aside I use table salt to help separate all the burnt epoxy and crud from the molten aluminium. I was amazed at how much more metal I recovered after adding the salt.
11/16-11 thread .... sounds like a job for @ThisOldTOny
My thoughts exactly!
More like MrPete222 -- he likes to lament about things that aren't made anymore.
"This knowledge is not ours to keep", love that!
Hey Jimmy. Thanks for the mention. It was good to meet you and Kevin. If I'm ever in NY I'll look you up. If you ever come to Austin TX, beers and BBQ are on me. Take care.
High Jimmy, the thread series is called. Unified Thread Series 16 TPI ANSI/ASME B1.1.
this thread is a special thread used buy manufactures own use. all diameters of there fasteners were 16 TPI. Just Google the above nomenclature and you should find your tapps
that you are looking for. I am surprised a fastener supply dealer was not able to help you? From Elliot Lake Ontario Canada. Retired Millwright.
This Old Tony probably has a book of weird and unusual pitch sizes that refers to that goofy nut and bolt situation on your paper chopper.
Dave Kimball IF not I'm sure mrpete222 has info of some kind in the archives
Pretty generous gift there....1kg of gold is currently about $40,000 lol! if that was 40 lbs you'd have about $728,000! Man you could build out the rest of your shop tomorrow and not have to wait on any more patrons! haha!
That was really Sweet what your Father said about you, And hes right! you're an Amazing person. I can imagine 100 years from now kids in a thrift shop or yard sale/flea market finding Something you made and getting excited saying "Oh My God! I Found an Original DIRESTA!!!" because whatever it was you made will be very rare and valuable in the future, because you are a very Rare one of a kind person! A Maker With a vision, youre an Artist! I wish i could look at things and have the ideas of creativity the way that you do. I swear Lol i wish i had Diresta eyes haha. I Love your videos Brother, You truly are an amazing Person!. Take care my friend.
You Really are my Hero Mr. Diresta the besta! Lol
I hope someday i can travel to New york and meet you.
thank you!!! xoxo
jimmydiresta You're very Welcome my Friend😀😀😀 You made my Day! I cant believe you saw my comment and replied to me! Haha i seriously feel so honored. Thank you soooo much Jimmy!!! Xoxo
You liked my Comment as im watching your Videos! Lol You the Man Jimmy! Have a great Day.
Always love seeing your parents. Your Dad his and blower’s repeated appearance was the highlight for me.
Thanks for sharing Bro! Your Dad is GREAT! That teared me up a bit. My Dad died in 1994, when he was 51. Now I'm going to be 51 in January. It's a weird feeling... Think of the weirdest questions you can and ASK him. Ask him Where your parents met, Stuff like that. Ask How did your Grandparents meet. I have SO many questions NOW and no one to ask. Thank you Jimmy!!
I LOVE your Vlogs!
Wow! Three Diresta’s for the price of one. You’re a lucky man Jimmy, and what’s really great is you like to share it with the world. The world is definitely a better place because of you Jimmy! 😁
Jimmy, I'm glad to see that you are using a "staple less" technique for your strip built canoe. It is a little slower going laying up each strip but in the end, I think the aesthetic results are superior without the holes in the strips from the staples.
Music 🎷🎷"Garota de Ipanema" 🎶🎶 from Brasil! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏👏👏👏👏👏
I applaud you for considering making custom bolts instead of just re-tapping the hole
Brazilian music, Tom Jobim.... very good
Jimmy is the best.... congrat.....
Brazil loves Diresta....
If 3 phase is available at the road GET IT!! You will not regret it. Oh and you are not the only loco that would drag that lathe home and fix it up. lol
I was thinking the same, and …. Why the hell is it still there….get it and store it hehehe.. I would even store it in my living room and watch it.
Kinda ridiculous that 3-Phase is still only rarely available in America. Here in germany every residental building or workshop will have 3-Phase 230/400v
great interaction with your parents too,
Love to see your folks, Jimmy! Always feels good when they show up in your videos!
Jimmy,
You’re workshop....
PUT 3 PHASE POWER IN!!! . You won’t regret it!
I’m an Electrical Engineer with 20+ years experience, doing design and install work.
Don’t use the TPN “machines” you looked at. You don’t need them, just something else to go wrong and/or trip with a fault.
Go Three phase in then distribute down to 230V single phase and 110V as required. Certainly put the TPN cable in...
I’m UK based... but have done many, many designs of similar jobs over the years
Happy to help if you want.
Best of luck and keep up the great work you do...

Hey Jimmy. Thanks for another great video. I just wanted to say that, and this. After watching your inspirational videos, over the last few years, I’ve finally decided to take the plunge and create a maker space for our local community. I’ve just found a property that’s perfect for the job (which is very rare around here) and I’m in the process of setting up a crowd funding account to raise the funds. I’m hoping to be able to provided the necessary tools, equipment and space for the local and wider community to use as a maker space. We only have 20 days to raise the funds, but I’ve already got several people on board to help. I’m really hoping this comes to fruition. Thank you so much for introducing me to this fantastic maker community. All the best. Looking forward to the next instalment from the world of Jimmy Diresta.
If you are still looking for an oven... My father-in-law (passed) had one out of an old school shop. 220v. M-I-L was asking me about, getting rid of it on craigs list. Currently located in SW PA. ill be visiting in July 14th and can get details if interested, but you'd have to roadtrip it because its heavy.
Dad's right, what you guys have done for the DiResta name.... You, John, Joey, Kathleen, Matty.... and all the support crew. Grampa would be proud! I think I said it before, I see so much of your Mom in John.
Great update Jimmy.....continued success!
I hope Giaco makes a GIANT maker knife for one of those giant razor blades!
@jimmydiresta Jimmy, thanks for being such a huge inspiration! Loved every one of your videos, every project, and every tip and trick you've shared! You're the first person I ever subbed on RUclips.
Thank you! ...words can never say enough. You've inspired this maker. Much love to you, and all those who support you from way down here R.S.A.
Keep moving forward with your awesome creativity, personality, ideas, and inspiration!
Beautiful words with your dad , respect👊
Squarespace will also:

I've seen that size bolt on an old chain drive semi truck that I did some work on a few years ago, o don't remember the head size but it was an odd ball size in 32nds of an inch, which is the reason mechanics tool sets used to have wrenches that went up in 32nd sizes
Jimmy! Great vid, I love seeing your parents and snips of the greatest city in the world (at least the greatest I've been to). It was a true pleasure meeting you and Kevin at the bash enjoying some ribs and the Standridge tour. Keep up the great work and I hope to see you next year.
I am not sure why I enjoyed it so much when you switched over to your dad with the leaf blower. I liked hearing the tree frog in the background.
I think a "Diresta" is either a transitional shot of throwing items on the ground or any spoon made on a bandsaw.
Chaotic Logic Yes! “A Diresta, noun, the act of tossing a completed work on the floor, usu. a concrete floor, often emphasizing the resulting sound. See also the verb form.” 😂👍
the music from the beginning is called
Garota de Ipanema
Yes man
Garota de Ipanema , verdade mano
Diego Barbosa Translation Girl from Ipanema.
as you wish
On the same day Alec Steele answers the question, "Can you forge solid gold?".
3-phase is nice for easy reversibility of things and as for a micrometer I'm sure you'll have no problem learning it. Only problem I ever had was being able to resolve which line is actually lined up the best. Just good to have one of those credit card magnifying glasses. I trust the analog micrometers more than the digital ones, plus you never have to worry about stupid little batteries.
Your travel portions are the best. Meeting makers, hearing their stories. Makes these VLOGs very special Jimmy. You have a great storyteller eye.
As the ring pulls of the alu cans is a different alloy, it might be an idea to remove them prior to smelting. Not sure how much actual difference it will make
Always enjoy seeing Spike at the end! So much useful info in all your videos Jimmy! Thank You
21:09 That face and that chirp.
Great video, good to see Mom and Dad. You are a credit to them both.
Could you imagine American Pickers coming to DiResta’s house? Nothing would leave of course, but they would probably be in heaven with all those rad vintage tools
I hope you make a video, testing round hammer Alec Steel sent to you.
That is cool you was out here in California. I use Standridge to calibration all my surface plates at my job.
Love my 3 phase antique Woodworking machines
That sculpture behind Spike has a lot going on😊. Also, great update. Cant wait to see more.
Contact Keith Rucker at vintage machinery, he may have bolts and a tap
Much, much, much inspiration from you. Every man should have an impact in the world. Greatings from Italy,Luca.
That ice cream truck is a kidnapper van by far, that music be spoopy!!!
Killer Update! Thanks Jimmy. I SO look forward to these.
The alloy in soda cans is optimized for extrusion, plus it's a high surface area vs weight. Try getting a hold of some aluminum castings like engine/transmission blocks, motorcycle engines, and so on.
How about some flux ?
Morton's Lite Salt. The salt is a mixture of Potasium Cloride and Sodium Cloride
Could have sworn the frogs were outside my windows the whole time. Thanks for sharing!
Here in México, in my school they have 2 old printers. And still work, but they are on sale.
i was watching this at 1.5x speed, but when i got past 19:58 and heard Jimmy and Mr. Diresta talking I had to go back and take it again at regular speed and-- how dare y'all make me cry like this in my own house.
Ipanema's girl, nice song, a classic here in brazil! Love and respect!
Think carefully about three-phase power for your shop. The infrastructure costs skyrocket. Breakers, wiring, etc. I had the opportunity in my last shop, and was glad I went single-phase with converters where needed. VFDs are cheap, and provide a per-machine solution with many other benefits. Only my large CNC Mill required a big converter, which is a Phase Perfect. Have fun. Hope to visit some day.
Love the space you give to street musicians. Love this version of bosa nova with the sexy saxo.
Holy Shit. Loved your dads’ comments. You really can’t ask for more than that from your father.
I find it amazing that 3 phase is so hard to come by in the States. I runs right by 98% of houses here in Australia and is easy and relatively cheap to bring to the house. It is good that someone like American Rotary have such great products to help you out though.
Having had to use both "single" phase and 3-phase power... get 3-phase. My power company charges significantly less for 3-phase than single phase because you'll be charged commercial rates instead of residential rates. Plus it makes your property worth more... just some things to think about.
Thanks for sharing Jimmy! 👍👊
I love the little clips of your dad leaf blowing
Hey Jimmy, if possible it would be awesome to hear your dad tell some stories. As I've gotten older I've started to appreciate what older folks have to say and I'm sure he could spin a yarn.
Def. put in 3 phase wiring in, esp. if you expect to have large machinery
Awesome edit, especially the sponsor read. mirrored chipmunk Jimmy is my new favorite Jimmy!
Sam who?!
Sam Flower, nice to meet you.
haha sorry fooooleeerrrr
Sam the chef Mike murderer.. R.I.P. Chef Mike..
Dustin Bess - mike had his “accidental fall ”
Thank you Mr.Diresta for being a creative inspiration.
So uplifting & inspiring, making me feel like I am in some virtual, but powerful & positive way part of your great community. Thanks for sharing!
Do not sleep on the 3 phase. All of us garage hobbiests dream of it...
So many projects!!! How do you prioritize?? Really looking forward to that slab table!
Loved this video! Getting better and better! And love the music! Hope you keep your parent's for a long time. Lost mine already.(father 20 years ago and mother 5 years)
Keep on the creative process 👌🌷 greetings from the Netherlands 👍🏻
Champion makes a rethreading die for 11/16-11 rethreading dies....you may have to go through a few of them to make new threads, but I've used rethreading dies to cut new threads....lots of sulphur-based cutting oil....HTH
NEVER call yourself a Moron , you my brother are like Jules Verne who wrote 20,000 Leagues under the sea . In his book he envisioned Submarines , scuba gear and nuclear power when they did not exist.
Happy 4th..... How about a large guitar project?
That anvil just might be a Hay - Budden. Cool
Hi Jimmy, what a pleasure to meet you at the Bash! As stated, I just love the work you do, keep rockin it!! Oh yeah, NICE HAT BROTHER!!!
Mr. Softee, holy crap that yanks me back to childhood in NYC. Nice touch Jimmy.
Love the canoe build. I love woodworking, for over 50 yrs now. The scribe is sharper than a cats claw, be careful.
Thank you brother!!
Hey Jimmy! I noticed the Trav A Dial covers on your Bridgeport are pretty cloudy. I needed 2 for mine and you could only order a minimum of 5. Yours looks a lot like mine, Trav A Dial 6A or 6B, you are welcome to 2 of them if you also have a Y unit as well. Let me know.
I spent 30 grand putting in three phase . Worth every penny . Opens up a whole new level of tooling .
Great update. Nice Knights of Columbus press from your pops.
Awesome to see a proud dad. Awesome vid dude
And I gotta have one of those huge razors! That is such a brilliant idea.
So has any one coined the phrase "Diresroration" ? For when you restore and change a machine?
My wood shop teacher in highschool made a canoe like that.. it came out well.
Grainger has the 11/16-11 taps. They’re just outside Albany.
Jimmy I heard "girl from Ipanema sax" very nice, send a hug to the guys from Brazil. especially to Rio de Janeiro. strong brother hug
love those quick lock discs, wont need to have a seperate grinder for each type of disc like l do now,
You are the boss all of us hard workers want. Us behind the scenes guys love true appreciation.
i think papa diresta needs his own channel
Always good to see Mr Joe.
Great video - just watching what all you are doing inspires me to want to get outside and just make something. If my child wasn't sick right now I probably would!
Jimmy, you are blessed indeed. Great parents that are proud of you, plus the coolest cat ever, Spike. My cats have zero skill at the band saw! I have learned a lot of useful things from your channel. Thanks.
You are doing awesome things Mr Diresta! Keep it up!
If you have 3 phase available, it would be better than a rotary converter, you're not running an extra motor everytime you want to use a machine. it would also be a smaller supply cable (although an extra conductor) for the same power,
You're not going to turn the converter off every time you turn off a machine to make adjustments, change a tool etc, wasted power.
I used to work on 3 phase all the time, best thing for machines
I'm not sure how it works over there, you have so many weird voltages, in the uk we have 240 single, and 415 three phase, if you run 3 phase and neutral around the shop, you can pick up the 240 from a 3 phase socket (phase to neutral), so i wonder if it's similar there.
Spike! A bit stiff, but still hanging in there.
Viva, Tom Jobim - Garota de Ipanema, Brasil il il il!
Oh wow you were up in Cobleskill? Towards Sharon springs?
What is being demonstrated at 11:23? Looks very interesting. Stan seems like a great guy, people sharing their knowledge is what makes the you tube machinist community so great!
I still like it when Spike makes it into the videos.
Your Mom gave the best advice that one can give to others.
always enjoy your updates plus at the end your flock of 2 and 4 legged friends......woo-hoo Spike!! haven't seen you for a while.
They say if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life.
I'd say you're an embodiment of that.
