In this video i make an aluminum tool box using the TIG welding method. This is the very first time i made full project using the Tig method and of course i need practice. I left the welds as is as a moment in time for my personal learning and plan to practice and get better for future projects!
Thank you!!!
Thank you all for the love and comments this tig work was really the first time I ever did as much in Aluminum as I have in one sitting. As you can see i need practice by the time I did the tray I was getting better. I left the bad welding as a moment it time ...to get better from. Enjoy
Nice
jimmydiresta as you should.😀
Got to start somewhere Mate, good job..
Great
jimmydiresta,
I very much enjoyed this one. I love the look with the ironwork and the polished aluminum. Critics “LIKE IT SAYS”, built for work !!!!
I am a pipe welder, by trade and have done lots of aluminum work besides. TIG torch is the way to go. Keep it up....soon it will come natural.
In “85” my college instructor could weld two pop cans together (bottom to bottom bevels) Crazy, I still can’t do that lol.
Keep it up brother, love it all !!!!
T. Morgan
These are the type of vids that got me hooked on your channel. No need for talking. I don’t care about your daily life, I just like watching people build cool stuff, and you never let me down.
Holy crap! That is a beautiful piece of work! I never thought a tool box could be so shiney!
This was an awesome project! Now I want to build my own toolbox too! 🙏
Thinking about same thing but as a lunch box...
do it, and clean your workshop
Right after you finish that Bowie!
oh wow alec so many awesome projects, so many beautifully crafted damascus weaponry, oh... you have a damascus toolbox as well ? uuuhhhm neat, is that a damascus... toothbrush ?
I still want to see some Damascus glasses frames ;)
On my way home from a few hours of water skiing the river, I notice JD has posted. At 60 mph with my Mastercraft in tow, I slam on the brakes!! OHH, shiney object, me like:) And now for DiResta the story. Good day.
I started watching then I realised I was missing something so I slowed ti down at 1/2 speed. WOW!!! Amazing to see such a master craftsman at work. I've never slowed your videos before and I was enthralled. Thanks for sharing you skills with us.
Wrought element 26 adds such character to the lines & shine of element 13, lifting both into the lustful gaze of desire. Thanks for sharing!
How on earth can you know how to build basically anything and be so fluent in all materials? I love building and working with my hands but you've shown what's really possible! I'm humbled and inspired by your work. Thank you so much for sharing these videos.
It wouldn't be a Jimmy Diresta video without the chipmunks. Well done, sir.
the background noise is Diresta's specialty
Skilled in all forms of MAKE, without a doubt. Next project: a clear acrylic heavy duty toolbox. What? Sure, you can see exactly what tools are in your box. The go-to box would be as safe as any other because, whether it be acrylic, metal or wood, craftsmen seldom leave their toolboxes in a position to be stolen anyway. Durable for sure, rustproof for sure, workable for sure, practical without a doubt. Give it a go Jimmy.
Great work, as a long time maker its almost therapeutic to watch a project come together so nicely.
Thanks.
we are in the process of getting some welding equipment. i had ago at arc welding for the first time recently. cant wait to get stuck in. it reminds me of my first tool box when i was a kid.
I'm always amazed by those who work with metal. If I ever move to a new shop that isn't my basement, I want to get into metalworking for sure! Awesome build! The tool box looks awesome!
I was gonna say the same thing about the welds, but honestly, I love that you kept them as they were since this is a learning experience for you. Jimmy, you are probably one of the most talented people I’ve ever seen and I absolutely love your videos. Please never ever stop making them!
👊🏼👊🏼🤟🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Creator, Craftsman, Artist and one gifted human. Thanks for sharing!
This takes me back. I worked at a place making aluminum tool boxes for semi trucks for about a year - the wads of Nitto paper were constantly being lobbed at each other across the shop... like a snow ball fight that never ended. Good times.
I thought it was steel until i watched him cut it in half with a table saw.
We do the same will balls of masking tape at my work 😂
Takes me back to high school. I remember making a similar toolbox bent from sheet steel, with double folded safety edges, spot welded at the seams and finished in metallic green hammer-tone paint.
We're glad you kept the welds the way they are so some day you can look back at it and see how far you've come. Love, love, love the twisted handle.
Dont get me wrong, i love every project you have ever done. ( I've been watching you for years now. )
But this is one project that i could use on a daily basis. I absolutely love it. I love the industrial look from the forged handles and rivets and the welds. If i could ever get something made from you. This is what i want. I love it.
Lovely! I really like how the handle on the tray matches the handle on the toolbox. And the darker iron is a great contrast to the shiny aluminum.
Figments Made d
I like it, a little rough around the edges and those handles make it look like it was made to be abused, just like an old tool gained its patina through the years, that reflective surface is begging for scratches.
It'd be great for a present, maybe to someone young starting out, that way you get to see it age.
Thank you Jimmy!
Awesome build. Rivets are underrated and I love using them
Honestly your creativity and originality are so inspiring, I’d die to have 10% your talent! But most of all, you’re real
digging the contrasts of forged steel and shiny aluminum !
Isi't a joy to watch a craftsman in the act of creation.
Thanks for the inspiration, Jimmy!! I haven't used a Bending Brake since High School!! Brings back great memories!! Thanks!!
I really dig the forged handles! also like that you cut the box in half like you would a wood box.. wouldn't think of doing that with aluminum.
Pop rivets. That will stay together forever. The box my dad gave me is built the same way and has only made it 55 years so far.
My tool box is a hand made one that I "borrowed" from my crew leader when he retires. All solid rivets and no welding using leftover aircraft scraps and sheet metals.
Sweet!
The nice thing about this is, you can build it to an off size that you can't get at a box store.
I have got to learn to weld. Very well done, brother. Nice thick gauge. Reminds me of my Dad's old Craftsman toolbox that I love so much.
His tig welding is only going to get better and better. Honestly it's impressive for his very first tig project. I admire Jimmy for his desire to continually learn new skills.
Drain The Swamp thank you 🙏🏼
This week's episode brought to you by the such&such rivet company, for all your rivetting pleasures!
Jeez. Jimmy...is there anything you can't do?! Amazing. Love to watch you create...restore...invent. .everything you do...thanks!
Great Job Jimmy! I imagine someone bringing this toolbox to Antiques Roadshow in 2090....
Finally a rainy day, think I have a couple months of your videos to catch up on
I enjoyed watching this build. Thanks for showing that you are also still learning new skills as well.
If I had 1% of your skills Jimmy, I should be called "Sir" in my neighborhood!!! Thanks, again and again Jimmy for sharing!!! AWESOME!!!
godfather i have a precision tig 225 also i used that to practice my aluminum welding great work
I gotta stop staying up until 6:30 am on youtube. You end up trying to watch DiResta videos at .25x speed. And you hear things.
Revisiting this video, I find it funny how I can feel a rustic yet a refined feel to it. Thanks for the video, Jimmy
Nice job craftsmanship at it finest.
Awesome build! The mirror aluminum really tops it off
Please take a young person under your wing and keep this kind of craftsmanship alive for the generations to come .
🙏🏼
Crazy! This kind of build is one of the main reason I subbed years and years ago!
50lbs empty weight:)
Forging, Tig welding all in one project... You're the best!
Jimmy it craks me up that you whip the things you make after polishing them up at the end of your videos 😃👍 it's like you're punishing them for being so awesome!
Love the juxtaposition of the flat smooth mirror surfaces with the welded edges.
I love how everything just delicately clinks about in your videos haha
Diresta Blacksmithing: Everything is twisted! :) Great job Jimmy!
You make it look effortless. I aspire to get to this level.
Something always so satisfying about installing rivets!
That is a nice shiny tool box. TIG welding takes a lot of practice and hand/eye coordination. Keep at it. I am sure you will be running with the big dogs one day.
That's a toolbox I'd love to have around the shop. If I were to do one, I'd use some walnut or another dark wood, with a little brass to help compliment the alum. Hats off to you Jimmy. Another job well done.
You have the best eye ball measuring tape, nice tool box. I want.
I can't believe Carolina had you make that for me!! 😉
Seriously though, Carolina is cheating on me with Diresta?! Worth it! 😍
Perhaps Carolina has Jimmy as their 'hall pass' ???? :)
Damn ha ha
Paul, you'll always be our first
Carolina Shoe Company awww shucks! 😳
I have seen your interview with Carolina shoe company it was really motivational.
Droppin' dimes, baby! Practice makes perfect. You inspire me to dream, create, and get better!
excellent work for your first aluminum TIG project. TIG welding aluminum is gotta be the toughest to welding jobs. Its like the old joke "how do you get to Carnegie Hall....Practice!" keep up the fine content.
For those who complain about the welding , remember its a tool box not a jewel box its supposed to be rugged.
Wow what a great job Jimmy! To watch you cut and shape the box was something special to see. I know you said you weren’t good but heck that looked great to me! Thanks for sharing and congrats on transgressing into a field you hadn’t done much of before....ie welding!!
Long time follower, first time comment. That was really cool.. I enjoy watching you fabricate things. I wish my mind worked and see things like you do. You make things look so simple. You inspire me.
I could make a tig welded aluminum toolbox with forged handles too, if I had a pop rivet tool.
😻
Beautiful work.
That is sofa king badass! You rock Jimmy!
I'm most inpressed with being able to forge your own handles any way you want. I hope to learn some blacksmithing in my future. Much love xoxo
Another awesome project. Great job Jimmy
Cool build. His videos make me want to put my name on absolutely everything I own.
Thoughts that run through my head when watching Diresta videos, how is he gonna...oh that's how! Well what about the... Oh I see. Wow I never thought of that! Thank for the inspiration to try something new!
I actually liked the look of the polished surfaced along with the kinda rough welds. Gives it a unique look. Good job
Very well done,I could watch you build stuff all day !!
gonna be an epic flea market find in 100 years!
Just gave me an idea for my own lunch box. One of a kind
As always very good job Jimmy👏
Remember making one of them in collage, was not as heavy duty as the one you made, but that brought back some memories :)
That would be something to hand down to the Grandkids of your Grandkids. Awesome!
I was thinking I hope he does a unique twisted handle and than I seen you forging just the tips and I was like aw too bad..NEXT THING YA KNOW you added that diresta touch! Very nice.
Coolest tool box ever!
Just awesome! Beautiful toolbox!
Hi diresa I like you and your work and your workshop very very much i follow you from Iraq.
This is truly great and inspirational work
Toujours un régal de voir la fabrication de tes oeuvres... I love it ❤️❤️❤️
Terrific work once again Jimmy! That toolbox looks awesome......................
Hey Jimmy. I think you should mention something about pop rivets in your description or title also. I am familiar with them, but anyone who searches for videos regarding pop rivets should have this pop up on their results because this was an amazing use of them. ☺ loved this video!
the handles really caught my attention. nice
As I watched this I could not help but think how pop-rivets are underutilized and underestimated - like pocket hole screws. GREAT look....
I rarely see you measure anything, but the work is always outstanding. You're a savage Jimmy. Keep it up & do what you do.
I am more into Wood then metal but i still enjoy watching your vids. You're fast becoming one of my idols...let's see first there was Norm Abram.....lol
To all the people hating on the welding...., make your own box and let us be the judge.... 😂 Lol! The box gave me an idea and the handles are super awesome!
This is so cool. Love that handle
Made a similar toolbox in high school shop class, only 14 gauge though lol not quite as robust, might have to build another now
Sweet box man
This was an awesome project! Thanks for sharing you skills with us.
Holding the material against the edge guide on the right (as long as it is square to the cutting blade) is a good aid for making a square cut vs watching a guide line. You are also fortunate that the material did not crack where bent using no radius on the bend. That is dependent on the alloy, thickness and proper edge preparation. Granted, this is not an airplane repair. Nice project.
Forget the haters, that box is kick-ass!
صديقي العزيز جيمي انا متابع لك من العراق المادة التي تقدمها جداً ممتازة وحرفية
لك كل الحب والموفقية
You inspire me Jimmy. Love your videos!!
Beautiful work Jimmy!
That is one sweet box Jimmy.
Great work.
You gotta love a classic hip roof box.
Jimmy, great! Work authentic time.
