Good to my old friends like Ron Larry and Ace. The USNS Ericsson was my last ship prior to my retirement. Spent hundreds of hours on deck in every possible position during Unrep. They are all a great group of professionals and I'm proud to have worked with them.

I rode what was then known as a Super Tanker, the USS Truckee AO-147 during the Vietnam War. At that time all AO's were crewed by US Navy personnel until they were transferred to the USNS fleet and crewed by civilians. The first time we UnRep'd an aircraft carrier it was like watching an entire New York City block coming up on the port side at night. It was the best Disney Ride you could ever imagine. I was 18 years old.

Mike loved the video served 23 years in the navy and retired as a BMC and saw and did UNREP from both sides. Stationed on tankers Camden and Sacramento and was TAD to Roanoke for a while. USNS Rainer, USNS Andrew Higgins, USNS Charles Drew , USNS John Ericsson and USNS Rappahanock we’re my top 5 favorites to go along side! I miss the shit out of Unrep detail. Been retired now for 10 years and could still go out there and run a station. Jimmy Gibbs on rainier was one the best bosun ever and of course I can’t forget bosun flash. Thanks for posting!

Brings back lots of memories of UNREPs during Vietnam.
Every 3 days on a minesweeper for fuel and stores with very limited storage.
80 feet between ships and our best helsman at the wheel.
Hand tended highline and midships fueling station.
My unrep job was bridge to bridge sound powered phone circuit.

Thank you very much, I was always on the receiving side - i always wondered what the perspective was on the T-AO. The longest time I spent alongside a T-AO was 14 hours when we had to take on 1.4 million gallons of F76 and F44 using two double STREAMS. We were always happy to see you guys because it mean we'd be getting our Amazon packages as soon as we secured from UNREP detail... lol

Served aboard USS Pictor AF-54, 1966-1970, was decommissioned in Jan. 1970, we unwrapped many ships, day an night, carriers port side, tin cans starboard side all at the same time, wouldn't trade the experience for anything in life, at the time did not think it was to good but looking back it was not all that bad, my rank BM 3, thanks for the video, today's ships so much more modern compared to the Pictor or Zelima.

As a carrier sailor (Ranger CV61, 83-87), and often standing watch on the bridge, these were the coolest ops to watch. Pucker factor is pretty high with the conning officer I can tell you that, when this much iron is this close together at sea. If I wasn't on the bridge I was on the catwalk just outside pri-fly or on the hangar deck watching the cable rigs, the hoses etc, or the vertreps on the flat top. All very cool, and very necessary. Can't tell you supply people how much you're appreciated out there. You make it all happen.

Unless that carrier was USS Midway, she just had a tendency to do that. She started having slight stability issues after she was heavily modernized in 1966. They tried to fix it with a refit in the 1980s, but they just made it worse, and she got the nickname "Rock'n Roll carrier" because of this. Sure she may have been a little wobbly, but damn was she reliable.

Pick up planes that are still afloat in the water after a sea based crash. That's the primary purpose. A WW2 thing, today, the plane will usually sink before. Another known fact there is a mobile crane on the flight deck to pick up planes on the deck only. Bobby Estey (USS Constellation CV64 ) Also the Captains Gig, see the link below :-)

On the Cacapon AO-52 in the golf of Tonkin, 64-65, we had a cable break during an unrep emergency break away. I was standing nearby and got strands of cable embedded in my life jacket, none penetrated. The explosion noise
was in credible. Back in the US one time we had an emergency break away while refueling a Coast Guard Cutter, the valves stayed open and you had to be there to see a pristine white ship turn black with fuel oil.

Don't like the music: takes away from the experience of the onsite sounds. I served 78-79 on AOR-4 USS SAVANNAH AS A boatswain's mate then transferred rates and became an aviation structural mechanic on F-14s attached to the Eisenhower. I recently saw the decommissioning of the Savannah and realized that former pilots who are being groomed to command carriers first have to command supply ships. Logistics in maintaining on station readiness is essential in being able to maintain a fight.

"Mucig" drives one insane. It is Hysteric. It is conflicting with the study of what is going on. Why not use the nature's own sounds around you, and let US feel that we are there too.
