    This was a lovely review and very informative. One thing I did notice is that this new set reminds me of an old set from 1999, namely 8446. This was another weird space truck, but with far fewer functions that the modern variant. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    The seats in the cabin 11:29 are twice bigger than the one in the crew compartment 11:48, that's weird.

      Apparently only the really big folks are allowed to drive ;)

      Maybe they're just very wide and plush!

    I get the accessories - but 8 of the same type/style of cannisters? It would have been nice to get another mini vehicle of some kind - they are doing wonders with the mini vehicles this year. It's a whole lot more "odd looking" when completed, and the entire 'System' play area on the inside really throws this thing off.

    This set really needs minifigures! I love the idea of a Technic playset like this

    this set makes me really want to look into modding sets to have power functions (mainly just driving it around, but also, like Sariel mentioned in the video, automating the stretching function). i also would LOVE to see lego make a "shuttle" big enough for this set to fit inside (in the shrunken position, obviously lol). i'd pay big bucks for that!

  • @Unbrickme

    If the stretching function is not new, what other sets(s) had it?

  • @Unbrickme

    So as I understand there is no drivetrain of any kind. Also no gearbox for the various hand operated functions. Most importantly, the lack of a drivetrain will make it much more difficult for me to make an RC mod of this vehicle

    Hey, don't you insult how buses handle! Have you seen one go around a corner?
    Also thanks for the lesson on suspension geometry. I did not know that stuff yet.

    I will point out, the cargo lift is actually an elevator for people. It would be hard to access the rover by climbing a ladder in a space suit so that elevator lifts up to the deck to access cargo or the airlock. The crane is for the cargo.
    Good review otherwise though! I always enjoy watching your videos

    I figured the rear suspension should've been swing axles. That way it would still stay upright, but it would have far more flexibility so when you go over a hill the middle axle doesn't lift up the rear axle. Either that or it should've had the same suspension setup as the tiny rover included. Otherwise I think this is the most interesting of the Technic space vehicles so far!

    The thing about the suspension annoys me. Im sure there will be a mod for it that fixes it but at the same time i dont feel theres enough here for $150 USD?
    I had more fun with the VTOL features and the stretching cargo is cool but personally need more than that to drop that kind of money.

    Sariel can you do a helping guide to stick the stickers on the lego? Maybe your's ultimate technique to perfectly fit the stickers on bricks?

    I hoped for some interesting new Technic pieces, but missing pieces in red are also welcome :)

    Thanks for the colour comparison. I do think your camera/software is doing some sort of colour-correction, as when seen on its own, the reddish orange to me looks just as red as the youtyube logo or your logo.

    The criticism of the soft rubber tyres - are you saying that it is good or bad?

    • @searme
      @searme  5 месяцев назад

      I don't think they're noticeably softer than black tires.

    • @rslotb
      @rslotb 5 месяцев назад

      @@searme The (would be) actual vehicle does not have rubber (at least inflated) tyres due to a lack of atmosphere where it is supposed to operate. The grey, together with the 'disk brakes' is supposed mimic some sort of mesh tyre constuct. I think they say something like that in the ambassadors reveal video.

    I think the reddish orange colour may well be a nod to the shade of orange NASA has used throughout its history - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_orange

    The crane is awful, the front axle can't even drive over the instruction booklet, the parts count is bloated with dots and other tiny pieces, the crew cab is like three different scales and it doesn't really interop with the rather confusing lift vehicle. I love the VTOL but this is my least favorite Technic set, perhaps of all time. Pricey, and suffering from an identity crisis.

    Sariel ! Why Lego Technic no more motorized model?

    • @searme
      @searme  5 месяцев назад

      No more? Some Technic sets are motorized, some are not. Just like every year.

    Somehow this set seems just mashed together without any thought behind it. The set seems like a desperate try to fit in with the ongoing space theme by adding countless halfbaked ideas and features to this thing. Might be an unpopular opinion but it's quite unappealing.

      Still preferable to something like the small Technic Lambo but this time in a different color.

      @fdsfdsjghk 5 месяцев назад +6

      Yeah that killed my interest in this theme, when literally every set was a car. Not even the cars alone, but them having the same old functions that don't impress anyone anymore
