I’ve watched your boat videos from day 1 and you guys have come such a long way! Well done both of you. Danni love your taste in stuff and joe you work and knowledge is impressive. Great team.
Don't listen to grouchy old Phil, you make your coffee on film if you want to Joe. Our orange Swan coffee maker has turned up and works a treat and looks beautiful. Talking of beautiful, that apron looks fantastic Danni, love your style both of you. Definitely , change the curtains rather than the wall colour though. Best wishes, Barbs xx

Great video, I always enjoy the coffee bit. Bathroom door looked great, it was wise to get that done before the water damaged it. Good job on the electric. Loved the apron, and Danni did well good at the thrift shop.
Hey we also use 220/240 Volts.. You should really install a RCD /earth leakage. It compares the power going in and coming back if any is lost ie you touch a open wire it will trip and save your life. Unless the inverter has that built in but I did not see anything.. they are easy to fit also
Since Danni mentioned electrical earths... Yes, the water would earth you - if you were connected to the grid. But, your voltage potential is with the terminal of your inverter so you need an "earth" that offers lower resistance than your bodies to the -ve side of it.

If yuur not using glands to hold those cables and conduit on the boxes maybe put a big zip tie around the cable where it enters the box on the inside so the weight of the cable is supported by the zip tie against the tight holes your drilling. Getting back to normal life might take a couple of weeks and the jobs will get done. Well done to both of you tricking of jobs the boat is looking lovely. I’m not sure if you should change the green but you have to decide. Try looking for New curtains first. Have a great week
Thank you Caroline! We’ve got some timber trims to put up this week so hopefully that might just finish it off before going for a new colour or curtains but I just feel the living room could be better, can’t quite put my finger on it though!
European voltage is nominally 230v, including the UK. It was standardised in 2003, however the reality is that the UK is often closer to 240 and much of Europe remains closer to 220, in Finland it is generally 230 nowadays. Some European plugs use side earth (north), some a central earth pin that protrudes from the socket(south). Often sockets found in bedrooms, landings and living rooms have no earth at all. Simply it is all a mess, and that is before you get to ring mains and more...
As always, a fun and exciting video vlog. Well done Joe for wiring in the electrics. I wouldn't know where to start. You must be experienced in that field. Take care. Looking forward to next week's video x
It’s a calculated winging it kind of thing, RUclips is like a library there’s some channels that go really in depth into electrics etc which have been a godsend!

Danni I just love the apron. My friends laugh at me because I wear aprons. I have several and I have made a few myself. My friends have ruined clothes from cooking and I have not. So keep you very cute apron. Joe cheers to you on the electrics.
Hi Danni and Joe, great video. Joe you are cheeky ☺️. Danni love the apron, bright and cheerful. I’m sure the dark curtains are good to keep the boat a little cooler in the summer but it’s going to be dark and dreary when the sun goes down early. I can see Joes point in lightning it up a little. You have great design ideas. I’m sure you will come up with a great idea. Hope you have a great week.
omg you guys are amzing on what you are doing, I think I just stick with cooking.... looking good your boat and all the wiring you doing Joe is amazing.... well done.;
Another great video. I’m ordering a load of victron stuff for my boat, so your electric installation is very helpful to watch. I’m probably getting 2 360 watt solar panels, and hope that will be enough to power our gadgets. I’ve got 6 leisure batteries that came with the boat too. … Also, Danni’s got lovely melons on that apron.
Ok, so I’m just a fat 78 year old man and have not too much experience with 240 volt electricity but I’m not sure I like the idea of copper covers for outlets. My advice (such as it is) be very careful using these outlets. Having said that I think you both are doing a great job. I really enjoy your vlog and am very impressed with your design and hard work.
Nothing wrong with being fat and 78, must at least be well fed! 😂 Genuinely agree it just goes against any logical thinking of electrical conductivity! I don’t even like touching the stainless steel ones but they are completely isolated and safe/tested etc. You won’t find me putting my tongue to them though that’s for sure.
After watching you work on the electrical of which I know nothing, I thought of an old TV series called, "The Red Green show". Red had a saying he used quite often at the end of a show. He would say, "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy!". You sir, fill the bill on that one!
Hi Danni, Jo, Another great and very interesting Vlog. Danni your new apron suits you. Jo, you are doing amazing with the electrics. Danni well done on your bathroom door. What a team the two of you are. Are you both left handed? Your boat is looking great. Have a lovely week. Take care.
Just one observation on the electrical side of things. You new consumer unit has two 16 amp breakers so the potential to pull 32 amps in total. It looks like you used 2.5mm flex for the connection from consumer unit to the inverter. I think that type of flex is rated to a total of 20amps. I would install a cable thats rated to the maximum the inverter can output. What im basically saying is that say you had a fault or lots of load on both 16amps circuits you have the potential to overheat that 2.5mm cable. Its hard to know what exact size to use but i would imagine 6mm would be good for 32amps, It all depends on what the inverter can output on max. Other than that workmanship looks top notch and boat is coming along nicely!
@@ItsOhJoe having looked again your inverter is rated for 3000w continuous and a surge of 6000w. 2.5mm would be fine for the 3000w but at 6000w the cable will be struggling. For peace of mind 6mm to the consumer unit would be spot on. Belt and Braces 👍
@@Marks-Garage thanks for taking the time to look into it. Yes definitely best to plan in for a worst case scenario on stuff like that, even if we both know not to overload it it’s that chance that someone else might in the future
We have 6 x 130ah lead acid batteries and used it yesterday, went from 97% capacity to 93% capacity on a 30 minute rapid wash. Would use even less if you put it on the eco/cold wash (the power drain is from the heating element, the motor itself is minimal)
Another great vlog fcuk Phil it's about the diary of your lives and sharing with us if someone isn't happy about watching you make a coffee just stop watching and get on with more important stuff in his life. Its a pleasure your sharing your personal diary with us I'll have a tea please next time lol 😆
Uk and europe harmonised at 230v years ago.. US is 120v. Whichever way you cut it the UK system with 3 pin plugs is by far the best....I am constantly amazed how bad the US design is.....
We’ve got 2 x 340w mono panels, wired in series (Explorist Life have a good video explaining why this is better if you want a link) and I can’t remember on the cable but the standard solar cable (but thicker of the two)
Hi Danny Joe,congratulations Danny and Joe on your wedding so happy for both of you make a lovely couple Joe you sure did a great job of connecting your inverter you are becoming a wizs kid at your electrics, some great drone shots got to say Danny I think the strawberry 🍓 Apron looks fantastic 99p what a bargain are you a charity shop addict? You sure can get some great bargains,I took a lot of bits and pieces to Scope disabled charity shop ,now you have a washing machine wow you can now wash you bits and pieces well done you two ,great blog very interesting till next time take care keep yourself safe,John 🌹🇬🇧👀🙌👰♀️🤵♂️🤝🙏🙏🏊♀️✌️😜🤩
There is a very good reason why God took the time to invent coffee. It's because he knew our life would be better with it. We roast, grind, and brew our morning lattes. Life is much better starting off like that.
As you have moved the batteries from the engine room to the inside of the boat, Is there a potential issue if the batteries accidentally get overcharged and start to produce toxic gasses ???
So they’re sealed units but yes can still overcharge and then release gases but there’s breather holes that we’ve connected up to tubes that vent outside of the boat
Really enjoying your Narrowboat Renovation. I've got a question, and a suggestion - Do you have two 230VAC circuits? If so, shouldn't the "source" wires from the Inverter to the circuit breakers be the same wire gauge as the total of two load wires - in case both loads are being used at the same time?
Yes, if the circuit breakers are the only overload protection, but I'd be surprised if the inverter doesn't have its own (the breakers wouldn't protect a short circuit before them) & the current capacity will be higher if the supply side is short runs that aren't enclosed in a wall etc.
The UK is 230v, Europe is 220v America is a bit of a mix 120v as a standard but they also have 240v for appliances. 110v is building site electrics in the UK. Look up boot lace farrells for crimping onto the ends of the flex when terminating because they are now standard practice and much better for the screws to bit on without cutting the strands of the copper.
Ahh yes was the building site electrics I got that from & US being 120v. We found their plugs quote awkward when travelling as anything heavy would just fall out the wall! I’ve got a ferrule set and another comment reminded me, I’ll go back over the 240 and add them to the wires.
Uhm... Europe is on the same (nominal) 230 V 50 Hz standard as the United Kingdom. Pretty much only going to find 110/120 in the Western Hemisphere (ignoring the 100V oddity in Japan).
Bloody hell Phil! Those little personal touches I think are quite unique and I personally like the down time haha! Keep doing what you do! :)

maybe you might need to get a puppy???.... OMG please that would be awesome......walkies...omg the apron is 100 % gorgous love it
I think Joe should wear that pinned😂😂😂
Only on weekends 😂
Ahhhh really good point, thank you! I’ll get some thicker gauge between the Inverter and Consumer asap
@@ItsOhJoe Yes Mark is right, make it thicker wire. There's special wire for low voltage high amp connections.
@@ItsOhJoe No problems. You chose well with the victron stuff. Never heard anyone have a bad word about their products.
Great video guys. How have you found the washing machine on power usage? Any info you could share would be most appreciated 🙏
We have 6 x 130ah lead acid batteries and used it yesterday, went from 97% capacity to 93% capacity on a 30 minute rapid wash. Would use even less if you put it on the eco/cold wash (the power drain is from the heating element, the motor itself is minimal)
Apprehensive was the word you were looking for lol
Nice one some people are nobs
Can’t please them all hey 😊
But if you change the green, it won't match the ramen packaging anymore 😅 Green's my favorite color, BTW
Forgot about the colour match to pot noodles!!! It’s the curtains that we’ll change we’ve decided 😂
Another great vlog fcuk Phil it's about the diary of your lives and sharing with us if someone isn't happy about watching you make a coffee just stop watching and get on with more important stuff in his life. Its a pleasure your sharing your personal diary with us I'll have a tea please next time lol 😆
Think someone p*ssed in his cornflakes, just like to take a step back and show people this RUclips thing doesn’t have to be so serious 😂

Uk and europe harmonised at 230v years ago.. US is 120v. Whichever way you cut it the UK system with 3 pin plugs is by far the best....I am constantly amazed how bad the US design is.....
We noticed how bad the US plugs were when trying to charge anything with a heavy ish plug like laptop charger!
Hey guys, great video as usual. Was wondering what solar panels you have, size of the cables from them into the boat
We’ve got 2 x 340w mono panels, wired in series (Explorist Life have a good video explaining why this is better if you want a link) and I can’t remember on the cable but the standard solar cable (but thicker of the two)
@@ItsOhJoe cool, thanks very much 👍
Hi Danny Joe,congratulations Danny and Joe on your wedding so happy for both of you make a lovely couple Joe you sure did a great job of connecting your inverter you are becoming a wizs kid at your electrics, some great drone shots got to say Danny I think the strawberry 🍓 Apron looks fantastic 99p what a bargain are you a charity shop addict? You sure can get some great bargains,I took a lot of bits and pieces to Scope disabled charity shop ,now you have a washing machine wow you can now wash you bits and pieces well done you two ,great blog very interesting till next time take care keep yourself safe,John 🌹🇬🇧👀🙌👰♀️🤵♂️🤝🙏🙏🏊♀️✌️😜🤩
Thanks John! So glad we got both the washing machine and the inverter installed this week we were really putting it off!
When you fill holes in wood, apply the clear coat before you fill, this prevents the filler going into the grain.
Yes it makes a massive difference
Will remember that for next time, makes a lot of sense as it has definitely left a mark from the filler!
3:13 🤣don't listen to the haters
😂😂
Nice pinni
Thank you!!
14:30 UK and US uses 110-120VAC. I suppose all other European countries uses 220-240VAC. Norway and Albania has no Protectiv Earth (PE).
Interesting to know, hoping to head to Albania so will look out for the different plugs!
I love the Apron, but it doesn't match the tape on his handy-man finger!
We’ve finally bought some plasters although they’re just boring skin tone! 😂
120v for the USA
That’s it! I was thinking of the 110v that we use on building sites here.
what drone do you use
It’s a DJI Mavic Mini II, such an upgrade to our original Mini and it’s under 249g so no license required!
Using a Stack Mastercard as a trowel?
It’s an old Caxton travel card - we had a few different ones and settled on Revolut on our travels
LOL @ number 2
💩
Only just found you very interesting why don’t you number each episode?
The numbers for each video should be in the description but the easiest way is using the uploads playlist and they're all in order anyway
@@ItsOhJoe Thank you
Uhm... Europe is on the same (nominal) 230 V 50 Hz standard as the United Kingdom. Pretty much only going to find 110/120 in the Western Hemisphere (ignoring the 100V oddity in Japan).
Ahhh okay, just assumed due to the two pins. That’s good news for a potential new project in Italy then!
