- After trying and succeeding at foil waterslides of various graphics and decals, I decided to jump into the deep end and create a full-wrap foil waterslide tumbler from start to finish. And it f-ing worked! Couldn't be happier!! A huge thank you to @VMDDesigns who gave me the key I'd been missing when I tried this in the past -- the correct waterslide paper to use (who knew?!). The waterslide gods seemed pretty happy with how this turned out 😁

Wow I love this tumbler it's beautiful and the technique you used is really cool. I wish I had a laser printer so I could try this method. Your ad commercial was hilarious. 😂

A few viewers have pointed out that you can put a graphic file on a thumb drive, take it to a quick-print place like Kinkos along with some inkjet waterslide decal paper, and they’ll laser copy the design onto your paper. That would work since it’s black laser toner. Just a possible option.

I needed a method of layering an image where the offset turned out perfect but the cut image is a mess due to the svg conversion. So I kept the offset in halo vinyl and then the waterslide method here to layer. 🤞hope this works for this order.

Thank you! Yes, the best way to get comfortable doing them is just to keep trying. The great thing about waterslides is that if it doesn't work, you can take it right off and try another one. Until there's resin over it, the decals are quite temporary until you get what you want.

It's practically perfect in every way! I absolutely love this! You know I want to pin stripe this though right 🤣 I think you have mastered foils how about a full solid wrap with just a snarky saying printed "white" so you can say you have mastered the foil wrap? I absolutely love that particular foil I'm honestly not sure you need any other foil really because the rainbow just goes on anything 🤷♀️

LOL, it's true - rainbow really is everything 🌈😁 It's funny about "mastering" foils, I feel relatively confident about them in this format (waterslide), but I still fight with them constantly in the adhesive format. Maybe I'll just do foiled waterslides now 🤔 Oh, and I actually did think for a split second about pin-striping this, but then I thought about how long it would take, and that snapped me right out of it. 🤣🤣
I think in groups of like 5 or whatever it took to get an even number around the cup it would probably look pretty cool. Definitely not every little one 🤣
I'm sure there's a video somewhere, but how do you print that big? What software program do you use? I need something I can possibly use on a PC and on a Mac laptop. This is phenomenal and I loved your break-in mercy commercial. CRACKED ME UP. Oh and is this possible with inkjet printer at all??? Sorry for the bombardment of questions.
Thank you!! I use Inkscape to be able to print full page. It’s a free program you can download to your computer. I use windows but I believe it works fine with Mac as well.
Unfortunately, this foiling effect won’t work with an inkjet printer. It’s the black laser toner from a laser printer that the foil sticks to when run through a laminator.
Awesome technique do you think the transfer would work with a low setting iron instead of laminator??
Thank you!! It probably would, although you may have to do a few tests, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. If you try it, please come back and let me know how it goes!
Love this idea for the waterslide. I don't have a laser printer, but I may need to get one. I would love to do this foiling method. So you printed the waterslide with your laser printer, made the parchment paper packet, placed foil over image, ran through laminator & they pulled the foil off, is that correct?

Could you use a heat press instead of the laminator?
Probably, although you’d need to do tests to find out what heat and pressure works best. But technically, it should work.
I Love watching your video's and I have purchased 2 of your tumblers on Etsy. I have noticed that you don't put a lot of the tumblers that you make in your video's on Etsy for sale. You have made a few in the past that I would have loved to have purchased but I never see them for sale. Is there another place where you sell them where I can purchase them ??
Thank you!! Most of the designs I list on Etsy are ones I can easily reproduce. Most of the video-made tumblers are ones I’m basically not interested in trying to replicate. I love using this method, but I can't ever NOT get wrinkles in my foil when I put it through the laminator. Idk what the deal is with that, but I was wondering if the mink machine was better for that? Maybe it might be my cheap Amazon foils? It definitely gets.frustrating. The cup is beautiful btw, and I hope I can get some of these foils from APS soon.

Interesting situation - I have wrinkle problems all the time when trying to adhere these foils onto a tumbler, but I haven’t had the same issue with them in the laminator, so I’m not sure how much I can help. I mean the minc is great, but a regular laminator really should work fine. So I would guess it might be the foil? I don’t really know.

Great question! Unfortunately it doesn’t work with inkjet ink - it’s the black laser toner from a laser printer that the foil adheres to.
