One big upside of Hyperion is that it works with addressable leds instead of strips with addressable led zones. The effect can be a lot more precise and detailed. This can be really spectacular with scenes like street lights passing by on a street at night, with the glow exactly following the glow on screen. I have used a setup like this for race simulation games and it is amazing how much immersion it can add so dark scenes.
I have almost" finished" my room done with the Phillips Hue lights. I tried to pretend I wasn't droppin close to 2 grand on lights so I purchased a few lights at a time with a week or 2 in between purchases to make me feel a little better about myself. Silly?... Yes but it worked and I love em. I actually started with the Govee set up but I kept getting frustrated with different things and finally gave up. I'm not here to rip on Govee infact I really like a bunch of their stuff and still have some of their LED strips in stalled under my bed and stuff. Can't wait to see what the future holds for lighting cause it's f**kin awesome
Great video, which version of govee did you get? I didn't realize there were 2 available on Amazon for same $, and difference is noticeable. It looks like you have the H61991, which is the better of the 2 (h6104 being the other). The are a few things to do to the Govee that will significantly improve performance on all fronts. 1. Try bottom mounting the camera, the app has the option, and most people see a slight increase in response when installed this way. 2. When calibrating the camera in the app, place the points slightly past the edge of the screen, and also use the RUclips calibration video and skip the orange blocks altogether. Finally, in the Govee app, set the saturation to 0% and brightness to around 40 to 50, this will fix the white problem. Govee actually has a pretty decent white, but when the saturation is past around 10, for some reason it goes blue. Anyway I hope this helps anyone and maybe try this on your setup and see how well it performs!
Good information, I ordered 2 sets of the Immersion systems and a set of the towers for a monitor, I ordered directly from Govee because they had a 25% off promotion and free shipping, every system ended up being flat $60, hard to pass by, I would think they are the newest version of the set, they only had one... Ty
Thanks for this. I should be receiving my Govee today and will be trying this out. I was worried about the whites, but hopefully this fixes that problem
For Hyperion, it should be noted that some gaming consoles can detect when they're connected to a capture card and will limit some features (looking at you, Nintendo Switch). This is because they're often used to record HDMI signals, so while doing it for gaming is fine, they'll do what they can to prevent pirating. Wouldn't be surprised if other hardware does the same. Honestly annoying though, since clearly recording isn't the only use for them.
I'm fully invested in HUE sync, 5 Play Bars, 2 HUE bulbs, Light Strip V2, Sync Box and a 65" Gradient Strip. And I know now, that when it all starts to give up, I will be replacing it all with Govee... I started with Govee and I'll end with it it seems...
you want to bring the blocks in a bit when you scan especially on the sides give the camera more info and the sides will be synced better. the best govee guy on youtube shows you how to get everything accurate, including better white /grey lighting response
To anyone wondering, no you don't need to put all the hyperion hardware on the back of the TV. All you need are the following: A long HDMI cable if you moving everything but the LED strip away from the TV (look at Fiber HDMI cable if you need more than 15 feet) A 3 wire speaker cable going to the LED Strip on the back of the TV A logic level shifter connected to the data wire of the speaker wire (you can buy a DigiUno from QuinLED if you don't want to solder) You are going to connect the LED Strip to the speaker wire > Speaker wire to both LED power supply and Raspberry PI (Make sure you connect ground wire pin from the power supply to the raspberry pi).
It will never be perfect, there will always be a mixture of colors constantly sometimes it shows color when the object is a tiny little thing will end up lighting a whole corner, you don’t even focus on the light you’re focused on the tv. In my opinion the govee full TV set with two standing bars I picked it up for 90$ Works great with the strips and separate backlight put on the sides or bottom of the tv stand to extend the lights looks amazing. Works very well has a great app and a lot of features for music and standard and custom light setup. You can just hide the camera on the bottom if your tv also not even mounted just lay it on the stand if you have one or below it hidden in some decoration if you don’t wanna see it.
If you use same boxes with Coreelec or libreelec firmware ( any android box with dual boot) you can use Hyperion add-on. So your price for ambilight will be lower. Or you can have ambilight on PC monitor with Wled FW on esp chip like d1mini and prismatic software running on pc. It's pretty awesome playing game with ambilight.

Biggest problem I have found with Hyperion is finding an HDMI splitter or capture card that will pass 4k60 HDR10 to my TV and work with HDCP 2.2 content.
I used the AVStar splitter off amazon. 30 bucks and now my hyperbian setup is 4k with hdr and dolby vision. It sends one signal untouched and the other downscaled to your pi. Which now makes hyperion best of the 3... Hands down.
I started with Govee LED strips. They lack compatibility and customization. Hyperion is drastically better. It isn't even a close comparison. I do not use capture cards. I've always built my own PC and just use that as my only TV source for a long time now. You can pretty much watch anything you want with a computer. I don't mind the extra labor and time it takes to learn the skills and find the knowledge to make things the way I want them to be. It's been a year now since you posted this and Govee still lacks integration worth using unless you get the high end devices. You can build them better and cheaper.I still use all my govee items I got originally. Not hating on them, but you cant even compare them to fully customizable.
Just for added insight. You can add a splitter with selector switch (i have 3 into 1 out) on my hyperbian setup. Basically its 4k at 60hz with HDR and dolby vision. Its a setup that blows hue and the inaccuracies of govee out the water. Just wanted to help people make the best choice, the hyperion setup. You must be on the DIY nerdy electronics side tho lol. If your not good with electronics just grab the govee setup lol. Govee is great for what it is... And its some what cheap cost. Thats my 2 cents. Hyperion can definitely have more than one source.
Mate, in the instructions for govee, it literally says to peel off the orange squares from one end, not all at once. Not sure why you superglued them to your screen either, you can just barely touch them on for an easy removal
@@SpencersStuffTV It is not in the description. It's a link to the website. Which doesn't mean that he used the 2.0 because once one came out, the other one went away. Thanks for trying!
I watch most things on the TV via app so something like govee is the only solution for me. I think it's very sensitive to its own reflections which is why colors stay. Also some TVs are very dependent on viewing angle so colors might appear different to the camera. Saw some use polarized filters and else for compensation. Didn't try it yet but probably when it's on sale again.
If you are using android tv, Hyperion can work directly on your android tv. The govee is extremely easy to setup but the more I use it the more I dislike it. For me, Hyperion was worth the effort.
I like Govee, but I don't like the camera. I have a Receiver that has HDMI switching, even if the receiver is turned off, so Hyperion works well. The camera feels like a privacy invasion. Hyperion does have a bunch of other options where you can send an image from the TV to Hyperion, meaning Hyperion can run multiple inputs even a camera (totally local) if you needed to. If your TV has a HDMI output it's even easier. Hyperion is certainly not for everyone though. You do need to know how to tinker a bit, but once it is done it doesn't need any maintenance. Depending on the RGB strip quality will depend on how well white works. Mine are only RGB and white is definitely a perfect white with my strip.
A great way to improve the govee is to put an ND filter over the camera. Neweer makes one. Essentially with the ISO being so high on the govee, it can misrepresent some colors. This helps it to tame that and produce much better results. Just be sure to recalibrate. I have seen much better and precise govee lights on RUclips than what youre showing in this video

They are to expensive for me but I'm not hate on them or assume that cause I cant afford it no one else will be able to either.
see im getting tired of watching these videos. im not getting that kind of quality from this product. black images are coming out with the white pinkish light. and I've recalibrated it over and over and I can't find out whats wrong. when I look through the camera it shows the image of the screen and with black screen it shows a greyish image which im guessing is causing it to give that white image on the light.
Pretty much. I’ve been thinking about making a how to since every tutorial I followed either skipped some steps, or I just had issues that nobody else had.

Why didn't you try out and show the Hue set up? You are making a video for people to watch and make up their minds on what they should get and you leave out the leading companie currently in LED lighting. And your only reason was cause it's to expensive? Not every wants to buy something just cause it's cheaper especially electronics. It's like making a video about new TVs (when their only like 3 companies too) and saying well I'm not going to do the 3rd one cuz they're just too expensive. LOL WTF? Some people are willing to put out a little more to have something really nice, like OLED TVs! They are to expensive for me but I'm not hate on them or assume that cause I cant afford it no one else will be able to either.
70 inch ??????
Thanks for the warning, cool always associated with flashing, lol
see im getting tired of watching these videos. im not getting that kind of quality from this product. black images are coming out with the white pinkish light. and I've recalibrated it over and over and I can't find out whats wrong. when I look through the camera it shows the image of the screen and with black screen it shows a greyish image which im guessing is causing it to give that white image on the light.
What i think... Govee is the best option right now if you don't want Philips hue.
summation i get from this is: Don't do this because it is a pain in the azzzzzzzzz
Pretty much. I’ve been thinking about making a how to since every tutorial I followed either skipped some steps, or I just had issues that nobody else had.
Govee bars easier still
these are useless😂😂 i am using complete diy with arduino nano and ambibox android app
works like charm
You having a different solution does not make these useless, silly.
He sd antenna! 🤦🤣
He moves his head too much. It's too distracting. Well that getting neutered makes you.
His head isn't on camera very much. Please link to your RUclips videos so we can criticize you for something. =D
