It is worth at least $500k. This bracelet is still in production and this one is one of the originals. Verdura is still in business. Either they or Chanel Inc would pay big money to have this in their archives.
Well it is like that Patek Philippe pocket watch that is 1 of 1 and it sold for over $1.5 million and is in their museum now. It was appraised at $250,000 and just blew right past the estimated price.
This is a beautiful moment that you've captured on tape. The connections between people are beautiful, as are the connections between present and past. Thank you for playing the role of historian, and following the path which this beautiful object might have taken to wind up on your table.
I wish the back of the bracelet and the clasp could’ve been shown. Her vintage pieces are, in fact, very rare, but I still look around when I’m out at estate sales, yard sales, antique stores, online, etc… “Hope springs eternal in the human breast.” Right? It was amazing to see this clip. Thank you!
@@voutoo7899 I think it's really ugly too! Beautiful history n' all that, but clunky, gaudy, it does look really fake and "costum-y" and like it would hurt your wrist wearing it.
@@Bulucanagria the expert lady did mention that the one that was nowhere near as good was estimated between 30-35K (iirc) and sold for a hundred grand so if she followed similar logic could be a half a million!
Story time. Years ago I heard a story about when they met at a gala. Young Charlie was a lowly vaudeville performer or something and she was already a big star. He introduced himself and asked her to hold out her palm, into which he placed a handful of peanuts. "I wish these were emeralds." He told her. Years passed, and it was on one of their big anniversaries (I don't recall which), he took her out to dinner and asked her once again to hold out her palm, into which he placed a pile of emeralds. "I wish these were peanuts!" Hands down the most romantic story I've ever heard!
Thank you. Great story and fits so well with this piece. There was also something very special happening as the appraisal was delivered and the excitement built. Then combined with the owners heartfelt reaction and pride, like your story it was all about love and not the monetary value.
@GiantsWS2014 OMG, how angry you must be. I feel sorry for your friends and family, having to tolerate you and your negative attitude. Seek counseling for their sake at least.
@@GiantsWS If you're trolling really good job but no way you are lol, when he says "I wish these were peanuts" on his anniversary, he is saying he wishes he could go back to that first time he met her while at the same time fulfilling what he originally said.

I would never sell it but someday pass it on along with the history. I love watching Helen Hayes movies and to know that she is in your family is wonderful.
Wow! This is really Iconic and I wouldn’t sell it either! I own a cross with a some jewels in but probably just glass… oh well! i Love the History of all this !
She did talk about it quickly but it was a friend who thought they were fake and then a different friend she showed a picture of it to who said they thought the stones were real and they'd give $1,000. Good thing she didn't sell it that's for sure.
her hand was shaking a lot when she was using the pointer. i knew the number was going to be special before that, but when i saw that pointer bobbing all over the place i knew this was something she'd never even seen before.
There is a picture of Coco Chanel on the internet. In it she is wearing a piece that looks similar to this one. The picture is black and white and a bit fuzzy, but the piece looks very similar.
Wish the experts would handle the treasures. They do in the UK, so you get to see the whole piece front & back. Also shows how things work ie opens/ closes.
Helen Hayes wasn't just anyone...she was the greatest broadway actress of her time ..she had not one but two broadway theatres named after her and yes.."everyone" knew her
When she mentioned that it had been to her 3rd grade show and tell class...then her fantastic laugh!!!
LOVE that moment!!!

Best I can do is 20 bucks.

o look another "expert". Where is your antique shop I want to sell you some antiques based on your expert evauation
Close, sold last month for $432,000
I love her response when it gets appraised: "What a treasure. What a treasure".
What a generous Aunt Helen Hayes was to her niece and her family. She really sounded like a loving and kind lady.

No tapes anymore, it all goes to that cloud thingy.
cash in and go on holiday. not a great looking piece

I would have liked to see the back of the piece also……
I saw in the news today that a lady in texas bought a busto from the roman era in a goodwill. So yeah, keep looking! 😁
❤❤❤love how this lady talks ❤❤❤
Loved Helen Hayes! What a great story!
Absolutely beautiful!! Fortunate woman to have this passed on to her.
What a beautiful story, appraisal and reaction.
Could easily go to $200K in my view. All real stones. Good history on it. Pleasing to the eye.
The sky is the limit the way I look at it. All that stuff going for it.
Appraisers in general tend toward conservative estimates. Better a client be pleasantly surprised than bitterly disappointed.
I find it quite ugly, but that’s only me 😂

So beautiful. Hopefully she keeps it in her family.
The 'jardin' in the cabochons screamed emerald to me. The sugar loaf amethyst also indicated a genuine stone. What a treasure.
They're all real gemstones.
Verdura doesn't do fake...😘

The "just glass" one sold for 100k so......
The fact the just the costume jewelry one can, with the right cercumstances, go for so much is amazing.
I would love to see what else Aunt Helen had tucked in her top drawer.
Love this, love Helen Hayes!
I wish we had been able to see the back, and how it unhinged. Lovely piece. Thank you
Thank You for sharing. Good for her. ENJOY
Love the show-and-tell anecdote
What a beautiful piece of jewelry!
Helen Hayes and husband Charlie MacArthur adopted James MacArthur...aka Dan-O from Hawaii 5-0.
I love all the history that this authenticator shared.
I watched this episode last night, and I thought this was amazing!
Beautiful cuff!! Different..

One can only hope the story doesn't end at the ending of this clip.
I was waiting for her to pick it up and give us a full look at it.
Oh yes i belive zäthis is on of your favourit Things in the Roadshow. Very nice 😯
So much for that friend of hers who said the stones were fake and that they'd give her $1,000 for it! 😬🤨

Could've been a possible scammer. So if things go bad for her. She a $100,000 to $150,000 safety net.
The friend said they were real
Those “friends “ are plentiful in the general population. Truly a woman with a good heart for keeping the treasured memories for the next generation.
Love it.. So beautiful and talk about scarcity.. Your odds of finding another is hen's teeth..😜
I gasped when she said it was all real jewels!🙀
Lovely story.
Wow!!! So cool
Wow that’s awesome!
wow!
Rick from Pawn Stars offered $150.
In all fairness, they would be taking all the risk.
And that's after he had a friend down the street that knows all about it
Well he had to frame it...
🤣🤣🤣....lol
Lol
Rare✨
“What a treasure” straight to auction
Helen Hayes' personal autograph alone would fetch by the thousands.
all tine fav good video
A near identical one is in the Verdura Museum Collection.
I ADORE PBS for including the subtitle “Coco Chanel: Designer and Nazi Agent”
The woman doing the estimate is visibly shaking lol, I would be too.
And shes got the box
She’s going “mhm” as of she’s heard what she’s being told before lol
her hand was shaking a lot when she was using the pointer. i knew the number was going to be special before that, but when i saw that pointer bobbing all over the place i knew this was something she'd never even seen before.

Wow.
this is a place to come share something about history.
Really interesting!!!, I love jewelry and mix real w/ costume, smart gal that Coco Channel.
Coco Chanel was a Nazi agent??? That's the first time I've ever heard of that!!! Such an iconic piece of jewelry and I loved Helen Hayes!!!

Quite famously a Nazi agent!
@Abc 123 i thought that was hugo boss?
@@Alternate_Ending yep, Hugo Boss did as well, as well as Adi Dasler (Adidas) designing the boots for Nazi soldiers.
@Abc 123 That is not true, Lagerfeld wasn’t even born when the SS uniform was already being worn

Totally under estimated. I could see someone paying $250,000 for it of its that rare. I would sell it. Lol
It sold at auction last month for $432,300
I want it..
It sold at auction for $432,300 in December 2023
Sold December 4 2023 at Bonhams for $432,300 including buyers premium
Omg
The person who wanted to buy it for a grand knew its real value. Thank Gód she did not sell it.
Yes, 100% did
SELL IT!
I know the story about wishing the peanuts were emeralds. So as soon as she said Charlie gave it to Helen, I knew they were real emeralds.
Sold for apparently $432,300 including buyer's premium as per Bonhams. Not surprised.
What is it that for? I hadn't never see before, but what a beautiful designed!! By the way, congratulations!!
It’s a bracelet
It’s got a randomish placing of the stones, like the little square red stone which doesn’t have a stone to mirror it on the other side
And?
Look up Paloma Picasso’s asymmetric jewellery.
more likely half-a-million!
Who offered you $1000?
I believe his name was Rick....
Dang, everyone KNEW everyone in 20's-70's
Helen Hayes wasn't just anyone...she was the greatest broadway actress of her time ..she had not one but two broadway theatres named after her and yes.."everyone" knew her
I wonder if Helen Hayes wore that bracelet in the Love Bug?
😮
It'd be really cool if she brought it back to her third graders and told this story and inspired them maybe to be jewelry makers in one day
How did you not know what that was? It's iconic.
Faaaarrrkkk 👌👌👌👌
Omfg so lucky
