I hate to be the bringer of bad news my guy but whome ever talked you into buying a new head fleeced you! You could of had a machine shop replace the valve guides and lap the valves abd resurface it for a 100 dollars and 100 for all the valves and guides or 50 for jist the exhaust vales and guides.Most machine shops will clean and bead blast the part as part of their service as well, You get it back looking and functioning like a brand new part that WILL be in spec in every way guatenteed.
Great job! Any indication how much more power or torque those mods would have added to your bike? 2-3 hp? Which were the key parts for power upgrades?
Also, can you get a vented airbox for this model?
Thanks! The megabomb alone ups the hp by about 3hp. I can’t find numbers online for the cams but they certainly do a lot. I can’t tell you exactly how much the parts improved the bike since I got it as a project and never rode it before, but it feels like it has more power than any 250 should have! With the cams and bomb, it could easily do 4 gear power wheelies! I have since removed the megabomb and replaced the whole exhaust system. Since removing it, I can feel a noticeable power loss. I went with the stock compression piston, so it’s not going to add any power, but if you wanted some more power there, you could get a high compression piston kit. I recommend Wiseco or Vertex. To answer your question, the cams and the megabomb did all of the hp improvement. Probably around 3-5 hp with a good muffler too. I don’t think you can buy a vented airbox for this model but you could easily drill holes in the box in places that water will not be able to easily get in. With performance, think of the air. It needs to go through the engine as efficiently and as much as possible with proper jetting figured in as well. If you want the best power, tinker with the airbox to allow for more air to make it in, have a high compression piston or even a bigger bore to compress more air, then have a bigger pipe to allow for a more easier flow out of the engine. No I'm sorry, I did not. I ran into some big problems with the motor that I fixed off camera and then decided to finish the rest of the build off camera so I could get it done a lot sooner. Did you want some advice or help?
Yea man I’ve got an 06 rmz250 just wanted to see how your build progress had went! It’s valuable info lol did the outlaw valves work for you? They’re way cheaper than OeM wanted to see if it was worthy alternative
I have a few hours on the bike so far and the valves seem to be working great! They are defiantly high-quality valves, could even be better than OEM... If I were you I would get them.
