I saw him live twice and he always sounded this good. He would sing Bennie and the Jets about halfway through the concert and the band would take a break. He would keep playing, riffing on the piano for 30 minutes. The band would come back and he would go right back into Bennie and the jets. It was awesome.
Elton didn’t want this released as a single but agreed once he was told it getting massive air play in Detroit and, I think, Chicago. He was one of the first white guys to appear on Soul Train and the first English guy to appear on the show. He appeared a second time 2 years later with Philadelphia Freedom.
All his years of music is great but i rhink he sounded sooooo great on his farewell tour.. i was thankfully blessed to get to see him on that tour!! He was one in a million
This performance is lip-synced. A lot of televised "live" performances were back then. I remember this well. I was a sophomore in high school, and Elton was popular across racial and generational lines. Shout out to your mom!
Hey Mud, sup? EJ' appearance on Soul Train was dubbed in music and vox, EJ did sing live under the track. They beefed the bass [with synth bass depth] and other produced tones with recorded synth highs, too. This gem is from EJ's 1973 Goodbye Yellowbrick Road album. Any film of EJ is still a treat forever! I'd love to give some history about EJ: Born Reginald Dwhite, was 5 when he played to an audience. Admitted to prestigous music schools he learned varius styles and progressions on the board. He had a start up band and took Elton and John from his favorite bandmates. He's never wrote a lyric - to this day. Benie Taupin is the lyricist for his musical magical melodies, He was "discovered by Patti LaBalle, backstage, at her show. "Hey, you know that white boy> He can play ANY style, watch that boy, so young and soulful". That was age15...He was hired for a bit by Patti and T-Rex [Bang a Gong] and began writing, EJ and Bernie have never ONCE write in the same room, studio, anywhere,,,,,,Bernie sends Reggie lyrics ad he waves his magic wand. Dee Snyder - bass, Davie Johnstone - guitar and Nigel Olsson - drums was his band for 20 yrs. Ray Cooper, percussionist for the industry, also played on many EJ classics. Bernie Taupin, lyricist for Reggie have never sat together, in the same room - ever! Bernie sends WJ words and he waves his magic wand! His band, in my opinion. is the best unacknowledged men in Rock, In 1975, EJ betted his VERY close friend, John Lennon. that if John'x xong hit #1 John would appear live at MSG. It hit - John performed live for the first time since 1966! You're the best Good luck reaching 100k Steve
Like Bruce Hornsby another master pianist and storyteller. He is also a great entertainer and if you ever wanted to analyse a songs lyrics EJ is a good place to start.
Sweet! Classic tune. Tres seventies. The great big giveaway that he's lip syncing is the crowd noise that starts the song off because that is straight from the studio recording where they added fake crowd noise to give the song the feeling of being live. "Bennie & The Jets" is a song about a rock star hence the crowd noise. Beyond that there is a lot of orchestration to the song and there are no other musicians around to be seen, like where is the bass player???
This is not the original audio😆 Elton John live at BET Soul Train preforms Bennie and The Jets/Philadelphia Freedom 1975 ruclips.net/video/Fb4Ym_a4I0E/видео.html
This performance is NOT lip synced. The audio and video is not in synch. You can find other copies where it’s synched. He is singing live to a backing track.
It wasn't live. He was lip syncing. :-) This was played on the black radio stations back in the 70's. I was probably 5 or 6 when this came out & I remember my aunties always listening to the radio & this song would be on it.
John is great, but not every song is great. Although Bennie Jets is popular, it’s one of his very most bubblegummy. Find his songs that have some substance to assess his talents.

This was a really big hit
He is singing it live here. Flawless.
This was how I spent my Saturdays as a little kid: watching cartoons, Soul Train & American Bandstand.
Yeah, Elton had a lot of fun with his live performances. Thanks for sharing this one.
This might be my favorite song of his! Takes me back to when I was 18 again. He is one of the Greatest!

My favorite song , freakin fantastic!!!!
Elton was the first white guy on Soul Train and praised, this was not live, this was the music industry standard and still is
EVERYONE ❤ BENNIE

This peformance was in 1975.
🌸 nobody plays piano like Elton.🤍

Check out some of his live concerts from his farewell tour
❤❤
As a general rule, everything on TV was lip synced. The producers felt it sounded better than live with the technology they had at the time.
🥇

On Soul Train and American Bandstand ALL performances were lip synched to the studio track... ALL OF THEM!!!
@@ReleaseTheQuackers Nope! This vocal is not the studio version. There is a pre-recorded backing track. He is singing live to a backing track.
@RJS1974 nope, this is in fact the studio recording, every single note...
@@bearballin Wrong. You can tell it’s not the studio recording. He is singing live to his own backing track.
@@bearballin, that long whistle at the end gives it away as what received radio play. He wasn't a great lip-syncher, either.
The Beastie Boys of all people did a cover of this.
Reginald Dwight, not Dwhite. Dee Murray, not Snyder.
He’s miming to the studio track in this video. Definitely not a live track here.
Nice program, Mug. Unfortunately, it's the studio track, which is itself made to sound like a live performance.
The best fake live tune ever lol
lol

Benny (Bennie) not beenie lol
Not the 80's.song came out 73 this performance is 75.
Lol I'd say performance is live but audio was so crappie they dubbed it with studio
he's not singing live. its him lip syncing.
John is great, but not every song is great.
