- Hello All - PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION
Here's is a must see time lapse video, shot over three days of the Buffalo Bomb Cyclone. There are some important time stamps I'm highlighting below. We also want to thank Mario, one of our volunteers, for providing the camera!
1) This time lapse covers Friday Dec. 23 at 6am - Monday Dec 26 at 12pm
Even though it is three days, the video is 52 seconds long. It moves extremely fast!
2) The Time Stamp is THREE HOURS behind! 0300 is 0600, et cetera.

cill starts to fill with snow

Hey Everyone! Thanks for watching. It's so fast, I forgot to mention that you can slow down the video in the setting section.
I’m glad to see the old girls weathered this storm so well. Thanks for sharing!
Very true. Thanks for watching...and it gives a little glimpse into what Buffalo endured this past weekend. Thanks for watching!
Literally, ...this video silently says a thousand words.
Very true...thanks for watching as always!
So cold even inanimate objects were shivering. 🥶
Thanks for your wit as always, Vegan. Thanks for watching as always!
Glad to see The Sullivans is back to tip top shape!
Yes, she's getting there. It's going to take some time, but we'll keep you and everyone updated as we move through these positive steps! Appreciate it.
Cool.
Thanks Lonny!
Wow! That about sums it up...
Thanks Steve! Yes...it about sums it up for sure. Thanks for your support as always!
I wonder if it would be feasible to run tarps off the cable that runs from the bow to the top mast and the stern to the top mast. Tie off on the handrails to create a makeshift tent. Then run some of those Kerosene heaters and keep warm air trapped in the makeshift tent, that warm air will keep the surface of the tarps above freezing and preventing snow from accumulating on it. You should have next to no snow accumulation on the deck. No having to shovel snow, no worrying about the ships trim and potential for capsizing. I have no idea if it will work or not.
They would act like sails.
Thoughtful question, Crazy Horse! Thanks. I can tell you from the canvas we put up in the summer for events on the fantail and forecastle, they get destroyed from summer winds. The gauge of the line would have to be extra-ordinarily thick for the winter. We put the canvas up in May, and by June we have to get it restrung because the lines break. Good thought, and I love the ingenuity....its just not practical. Appreciate your views!
@@BuffaloNavalPark I am an outside the box thinker....it isn't always practical though.
I will say I wasn't thinking about leaving them up all winter, only for use in an emergency event like that crazy 7 feet of snow you got a couple of weeks ago. Once the event is over the canvas comes down. It is probably still impractical from a labor standpoint.
She survived a lot worse than this Blizzard, she survived Typhoon Cobra in 1944 totally unscathed
Very true...but can't say the same for USS Spence, DD512. Thanks for watching!
Thrilled The Sullivans made it through this. The intermediate work was clearly effective...now to hear from the surveyor, a plan to move forward and figuring out how to get the $$$ to make a drydocking happen.
Thanks Tony! You've summarized the future plan of The Sullivans quite well. 2023 is going to reveal very positive steps for the old girl! Thanks for watching.
The mooring lines on the bow failed early in the storm. I hope there wasn't a lot of damage done due to that. So much effort goes into preserving these great ships for it to be jeopardized by bad marlinspike seamanship.
Thanks for your comment! Some crew got on board earlier this week and went to the bow, anchor windlass, bosun stores to see if anything was punctured by the barge, but thankfully not. We'll be tightening those lines up early next week!
Thanks again.
the ships be like: 🥶
Brrr....it was probably quite cold in certain sections of the ships! Thanks for watching and hope you're staying warm!
Boy, talk about freezing your fantail off....
Fantail.
@@barneymm2204 Autocorrect changed it from fantail. I despise autocorrect to no end.
Well said!
@@drewpooters62 LOL.
That's a good one, drew! Are you here all night...should I try the fish? 😀
Tides!
It was an unbelievable Seiche! Thanks for watching!
