Caught in an Avalanche in Kyrgyzstan (Everyone Survived) || ViralHog

- Occurred on July 8, 2022 / Jukku Pass, Tian Shan Mountains, Kyrgyzstan
We were 9 Brits and 1 American on a guided tour of the Tian Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan. We’d just reached the highest point in the trek and I separated from the group to take pictures on top of a hill/cliff edge. While I was taking pictures I heard the sound of deep ice cracking behind me. This is where the video starts. I’d been there for a few minutes already so I knew there was a spot for shelter right next to me. I was on a cliff edge, so I could only run away from the shelter (hence why I don’t move). Yes I left it to the last second to move, and yes I know it would have been safer moving to the shelter straight away. I’m very aware that I took a big risk. I felt in control, but regardless, when the snow started coming over and it got dark/harder to breath, I was bricking it and thought I might die.
Behind the rock it was like being inside a blizzard. Once it was over the adrenaline rush hit me hard. I was only covered in light powder, without a scratch. I felt giddy. I knew the rest of the group was further away from the avalanche so should be okay. When I re-joined them I could see they were all safe, although one had cut her knee quite badly (she rode one of the horses to the nearest medical facility). Another had fallen off a horse and sustained some light bruising.
The whole group was laughing and crying, happy to be alive (including the girl who cut her knee). It was only later we realized just how lucky we’d been. If we had walked 5 minutes further on our trek, we would all be dead. If you look carefully in the video, you can see the faint grey trail winding through the grass. That was the path. We traversed it afterwards, walking among massive ice boulders and rocks that had been thrown much further than we could have run, even if we acted immediately. To make it worse, the path runs alongside a low ridge, hiding the mountain from view, so we would have only heard the roar before lights out.

My first thought was “It just flows like water”.
My second thought was “I suppose it is just water”
Crazy to see it like that without the danger element, though.
It's definitely warm from all the friction, hence why it freezes solid once it stops moving.
If you're caught in it, your body will be trapped in solid frozen snow.
Well it could also displace a stone off the mountain that will brain you or shatter your bones to little pieces
@@oblivionnow92
I just mean that watching it on my phone, I don’t feel the impending sense of danger I would if I was the cameraman. That much water falling from that height is more than enough to kill you without the help of any rock.
ему повезло что камни под которыми он прятался не перевернуло на него
I never thought it would actually get to him but wow that was an insanely epic footage. It looked like it was miles away. And it’s snow, who’ve thunk !!!!!
No, the avalanche is not just snow. It picked up small rocks and huge boulders along the way. in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, I've seen debris fields that had lost of tree branches too, you will find whole large trees all mixed in. At the end you fill find trees that "survived" but were snapped in half, the top missing about 30 feet up, probably hit by a boulder. This guy was blessed that he found a large enough rock to hide behind, but further up the hill that same rock and he would have been debris.
@@tomgreene7942 yep. There's no way he could outrun it either. It appeared to be going at least 40 mph as it covered about 3/4 of a mile or more in less than a minute. Just find a rock you can try to hide behind and pray

"RUN YOU IDIOT"
On this rocks you will run about 50m by the time it reaches you, so it is quite pointless to run from an avalanche
It's way better to find the rock that's stable enough so you can seek protection from being hit in your face and body and knockad arround unconcious by the force of it, so you atleast can get away healthy and unscattered, you have a chance to digg yourself out off it when it stopps, if you run your'e probably going to get your head smashed against thoose rocks with some considerable strong force and risk to crack your skull and all the bones in your body.
To run on rocks you need to have been doing it since you where a kid or trained it proffesional for many years, you have to have your eyes 50-70 feets infront of you and take decissions on what stones are steady and don't wiggle (if it does you going to smash crash your head before the avalanche does it to you) and you also need to understand what rocks are the best to reach all the rocks that comes after it, if your'e not very experienced running there ar top speed don't even think about it in a panic situation like this.
