I love books but it’s story telling. I have received the experience from some movies and occasionally games but those are the exception; books always include the MC thoughts and helps your empathise and develop their philosophies and perspectives other mediums can never copy. We live in an era where tech and books live together so we should love both (btw I totally recommend the Tolkien Lord of the rings series both movies and books are great but books have a different charm and has its own differences especially with time and details) :D

I deleted my social media and started reading again. I truly found my love for reading again and honestly I can say social media ruined my attention span. I used to be able to read all day. But when I was addicted to social media I couldn’t do it without checking my phone. I’m glad I got rit of it.

Personally, I find that I absorb a physical book better than an electronic one. There is something about the feel of physical paper that aids in the retention of information. Also, finishing a physical book feels more satisfying. At least for me it does.

I started reading novels at the age of 12 and used to force myself to read because I found it to be boring and tiring. The result: I became a bookworm and now I can’t stop reading. I swear I’m more addicted to reading than using my phone. Even my mom gets mad because I read too much. I read at home, in the library, in the passenger seat blah blah. Reading has improved my writing over the years and also my vocabulary so that’s a great thing :)

I read about 50 books a year. On December 31st of last year I made a promise to myself to read different authors to expand my knowledge. I don't spend money on books. I check tem out for free at the local library. I like the tangible book rather than the ebook because I have retina issues. My mother encouraged reading for the summer at the age of 10. It is a solitary activity and thats what she wanted so we did not socialize with the wrong crowd. I am 56 and I encourage my husband to read because it helps with dementia-related dieases.

I just read a chapter everyday and I finish the book in a month (two if its a long novel). The challenge is giving that extra effort required to open the book and getting through the opening paragraph or chapter because it has to hook you. A lot of people don't want to do that and find it boring because they're not reading about things that interest them. I was the same way, you have to read about things that interest you and enjoy it. Never had I thought I'd read so much in my life and finish a book by myself. Thank you authors/writers for helping me get through the pandemic!

Thank you for the insightful benefits of reading. I am a bibliophile and I read an average of 60 books a year - both F/NF - lots of large books and series. In March I read 9 books, including Tolstoy's War and Peace. I agree with everything you said. Frequent reading broadens and deepens your knowledge, imagination, focus, perception, vocabulary, and EQ to name a few. My love for books and reading developed before I was 5yrs old and with frequent visits to the library, a habit that I still maintain after many decades. I still prefer paper books as I like the feeling of holding one in my hands and turning pages, and I read faster than I would with an eBook and audiobook.

Nice summary of multiple reading benefits. I think also that reading makes us happy because we get to know about things in detail rather than in a superficial way. And in my experience, reading a well-chosen book about a subject in-depth written by a talented writer, learning is best achieved. I do normally not get this level of detail from documentary movies or youtube clips, they are more like sketches and move to fast to remember the details. When I read about a subject it often appeared to me/ I experienced that before the world from this perspective looked like a bleak, blurred picture, and after I understood the details it looked sharp and colorful.

  • @AECommonThread2137
    @AECommonThread2137 Год назад

    Long story short
I avoided reading due to my peers dismissing it at a young age.
Somehow my ass became a reader due to a passion for education late in my life (24-present;27). Your intellect will compound substantially with reading, youtubing information, and skills.
I went from a passionate drug addiction, alcoholic, naive waste of space, to owning 2 businesses with incredible margins. At 27, I finally started to read and buy books. I am into the Robert Greene collection, James Clear, Jim Rohn, and informative texts, research papers, text books, and so on. I am also ADHD, so I have a ton of passions. Reading allows my brain to focus more and more. I have conquered traumas and guilt through texts that others had wrote about over time. I have developed a better understanding and have become someone I admire. I like the Greene series because it helps you understand your emotions, human condition, how to respect yourself while knowing who not to become.
I love audio books but the actual reading definitely produces more neurological benefit.
I know I ramble and digress. However, it is not too late, I have done more in 3 or so years on my own, than I have done in my whole life.
Special thanks to RUclips influences like VSause, Star Talk, Veritassium for making laymen videos which opened the door to science and deeper more complex worlds of understanding.
Reading seems to be the pinnacle for most development which is shaping the next level in my life.

I heard that reading physical books are better than reading or listening to audio or ebooks online.
When you read physically, you use your 'deep learning' parts of your brain. And plus reading online is quite new for humans, while humans have read actual books alot in the past and evolutionised. From a research article I read, I also heard that reading physically is less stressful, more comfortable, memorise more and cause less headaches and strains for the eyes. And is also better for sleep since reading online emits bluelight. Reading in nightlight will help you. I'm sorry if I did not make any sense. Have a nice day! :)

Ever since elementary school I have always been interested in reading, although there where times that I have had (often times long) reading slumps, I have noticed that it's always when I am reading a book that I am no longer interested, making me feel like I have lost interest in all aspects of reading. I felt that if I abandoned books, it would be a bad thing, and it felt as something that I should not do. If you fall into a reading slump, it is okay to abandon a book or two to find one that interest you, and keeps you wanting to read. There have been times that I didn't read for over 2 months because of not finding the right books for me. So once again; IT IS OKAY TO ABANDON BOOKS!! FIND ONE THAT IS JUST RIGHT FOR YOU! I am happy that I got back on track with my reading and my goals, and you can too!

I think the misconception about reading is that it takes hard work, it really doesn’t. If you’ve already learned the alphabet and phonics in school and I’m sure we all have, you’ll eventually learn to move onto bigger sentences and over time you won’t even be overthinking it. I’d blame schools for giving people the misconception that reading is boring. If you felt like reading had to be an assignment, of course you’re not going to see reading as something you do for fun and leisure.

❤💚 Thank you for your insights. Its helped me understand how much I've gained. I've been reading a few pages from 10 books a day has changed my life. Been doing it for over two months now. Before that it was a few pages from two books a day. It has given me greater confidence, self-esteem, insight, and wisdom. 💚❤

Yesterday i started to read my first book just because i wanted myself and no one forced me like back during school days, the book is Fellowship of The Ring. This book is fantasy but it's really immersive and more intersting than I expected.

I also want to add I find it funny when a person who doesn’t like to read just blurts out “I hate reading” or “reading is boring.” I’m just thinking ok, good for you? I realize every person is different, but it’s almost like they’re trying to drop the hint that reading is a shameful habit. There are quite a few things I can’t stand but I keep those opinions to myself 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would argue that it depends what you read. I don't feel any difference between reading a fantasy fiction novel and binging a TV show. I feel pretty crappy after both. I can also read scientific journals online. I spend less time on it, but I feel it's more valuable.

I've never read any books in my entire life, but shortly I started reading George R. R. Martins, A Game of thrones from the bookseries of The Song of ice and fire, and I've loved it so far. I've watched the show Game of thrones which is based on the books, but I've had enjoyed the book now more than I enjoyed season 1 of Game of thrones and I'll read every book there is of Georges imaginary world.

I sometimes feel squirrelly and feel uncomfortable sometimes, after I started reading I feel bad less! It's amazing, I think it's because my mind has a lot of cool stuff to focus on instead of the useless junk that's built up in my mind over the years like regret, guilt, sadness. Not to say that I'm depressed, if I were then reading alone wouldn't make me feel like a spring chicken again in just a few days.
