Happily ever after never seemed so far far away when a trip to meet the in-laws turns into a hilariously twisted adventure for Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz). With the help of his faithful Donkey (Eddie Murphy), Shrek takes on a potion-brewing Fairy Godmother, the pompous Prince Charming (Rupert Everett), and the ogre-killer, Puss In Boots (Antonio Banderas) who's a pussycat at heart.

I love that he’s able to guess the plot pretty much from the beginning and every twist, but can’t seem to figure out that the pepper shaker is meant to be pepper spray.

This is one of those rare times when an animated sequel is better than the first film. Shrek 2 was a great follow up to the Shrek film franchise!

the pepper shaker is supposed to represent pepper spray! since the setting is based on medieval times, they're using shakers instead of pressurized bottles lol
I never caught on to that until I watched it as an adult. I legit thought they were just trying to get him to sneeze.
i love the subtle foreshadowing for the king being the frog prince. in the king & queen’s bedroom scene, she talks about when they were young and they would walk by the lily pond. and then in the pub scene, a frog recognises him.
Plus in their bedroom they have a green tapestry of a lily pad

Literally everything about this movie is perfection incarnate! The universe building, Larry King as the Ugly Stepsister, the debut of Puss in Boots, and quite possibly, the greatest climax ever!

The Cops skit of them tracking the white bronco, is a reference to the OJ Simpson case where they were tracking a white Ford Bronco.
the reason fiona stayed in ogre form after the first movie and not human form is because the spell said “until you find true love’s first kiss, and then take love’s true form”. love’s true form with shrek was the ogre form

My favorite part of this movie is the potion factory robbery that was a pretty good clip. And I love the I need a hero scene, & the knights scene because it kind of reminds me of the police arrest.

So since the potion works on both patterns to become beautiful, then the potion also worked on Dragon as well. The writer or someone who worked on the movie said they intended for Dragon to be a pegasus for the movie, but couldn't fit her into the plot

he's wholesome but a little slow.
Here's a theory,when Fiona told donkey that a witch cast a spell on her,it was actually the fairy godmother.
Yeah I think she did it to eventually set her plan into motion of her son rescuing and marrying Fiona

Shrek's origin story is well explained in the early version of the film and the musical. It states when Shrek was a child, his parents got rid of him because of their “ogre rules” and Shrek was on his own. It was shown in the earliest storyboards when Shrek, initially voiced by Chris Farley, tells Donkey that he has to rescue Princess Fiona for Lord Farquaad in order to prove to his family that he can take care of himself. Not much is know for the Chris Farley version of Shrek, aside from the storyboard of the campfire scene, which featured Farley's voice for Shrek, and screenshots from a 1996 animation test that have surfaced on the internet.
I’m with everyone else in that this is definitely one of the best Shrek sequels. ^_^ The other one I liked a lot was the 4th. Both really well done!
Would love to see you do "The Secret of NIMH" and "Alvin and the Chipmunks - The Chipmunk Adventure". Both are from the 80's and Secret of NIMH in particular is actually super dark story wise and animated kinda scary for a kids movie.
lot of don bluth movies are quite dark nimh probaly being the darkest of his works
Personally I like the book better, but that's because I read it before I watched the movie.
In 5th grade they did the entire audio book for reading class.
@@novaboon2866 i saw the movie first as a child but i found a copy of the book in my college library. i thought it was better as well. i liked that there was no supernatural element it was more realistic. The added stuff definitely translated well to film, but overall the book had a better story

He is always talking about these Fairy Tale movies in a way that comes off as if he doesn't understand that they are based on actual Fairy Tales.
Did you know in Shrek 2 where Shrek, Donkey and Puss enters the potion factory there’s a picture of a witch to a fairy. Which means that Fairy Godmother was a witch before she’s a fairy and to answer who curses on Fiona. The answer was the Fairy Godmother when Fiona was young and explained to Donkey in the first movie about her curse
The soundtrack was amazing
jennifer saunders, who plays the fairy godmother, is a famous UK comedian :) she usually works with the other half of her double act, dawn french (they’re known as french & saunders) but i don’t think dawn is in this movie. for anyone who’s seen coraline, they play the neighbour ladies who used to be actors
DreamWorks is better at hitting you in the funnybone. Pixar is better at hitting you in the feels. Shrek 2 is definitely the funniest in the franchise. I'm glad to see you enjoyed it! 😁

after ur done the shrek series there’s a solo puss in boots movie, which is actually pretty good imo. and it’s not just a short movie either, it has a whole plot while also simultaneously showing parts of his backstory

fun fact: in the first scene where we meet puss in boots, while they were animating it they noticed his eyes in the dark were too close to his boots and you could tell he was small and it ruined some of the mystery. so if you were to turn the lights on in the finished scene you’d see his head floating off his body! such a clever trick and i think it works really well

"Shrek The Halls" is also worth it (but do that one after the third if you're going to). Not just "Shrek the Third" and "Shrek Forever After" - but they of course are great too.
The writers played around with Fiona being born an ogre at first, but ended up going with this storyline. They decided before finishing the first film though.

The tune that Reggie the Trumpeter plays is the theme for Hawaii Five-0 which was a police series from the 70's. Originally the tune was going to be from CHiPS but the test audience didn't recognize it so the tune was changed.
The trumpet solo in the beginning is the theme to Hawaii 5-0. Also a thought, wouldn't dragon have changed too since Donkey changed? The pepper shaker is used instead of modern day pepper spray aka mace.
PUSS IN BOOTS' character is more of a nod to one of Antonio Banderas movie The Mask of Zorro

It must have happened when Donkey drank the potion and turned to a stallion. Dragon must have turned into a Pegasus and the babies were affected as well. When the potion ended, the Pegasus changed back to a dragon and the Pegasus-stallion hybrids changed to 'dronkeys'.

People are very superficial everywhere, not just in LA. I lost around 30 kgs (around 66 lbs) of weight a few years ago, and I did it in almost 6 months... my doctor was worried, but I knew what I wanted.
Guys, do you know what was the first thing I noticed when I changed? How people treated me, specially people I didn't know. A lot of people who lose weight don't notice because they lose it slowly but since I did it fast, it was night and day. Suddenly there were a lot more smiles around me, people was so much more charming towards me, to be honest, it felt awful... Most people will never know how hypocritical the world really is. Most of you have no freaking idea.
The prince portrait that appeared in the mirror during Fairy Godmother's song is Prince Charles of England. Funny thing is that for some time I thought that was George W Bush as he was still preseident at the time.

basically as an ogre the tradition is to make him be independent (throw him out, basically) at seven years old. and he’s been alone ever since, isolating himself to protect himself. i really like this setup honestly because it gives shrek & fiona some common ground later to bond over and it’s really nice

She did. The "Witch" that was was ONLY mentioned in the first movie was never mentioned again. So she's the "witch".

That trumpet solo is the theme song to Hawaii 5-0, a show from the 1960’s that got a reboot in the 2010’s.
The Princess and the Frog wasn't in production yet as it was around this time Disney were beginning to phase out 2D animation as Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet and Home on The Range bombed at the box office. It refers to the fairy tale The Frog Prince which The Princess and The Frog were indirectly based on (which actually was the book The Frog Princess which IS directly based on The Frog Prince).
also there is a movie called Hansel and Gretel and they're basically witch hunters it's a very good movie it has the guy that plays Hawkeye from the marvel movies in it you definitely should watch it but it's a bit on the horror side
And yes thumbelina is another movie you can watch and it's really good but it is a bit of an older cartoon movie as well think I'm going to watch it later today cause it's been a long time since I last saw it

Thumbelina is another Don Bluth film and I think you would enjoy it. It's probably the sweetest one in his repertoire. You'll probably recognize the main actress' voice if you pay attention.
Okay, so... Harold as a frog went to Fairy Godmother to make him human so he can be with Princess Lillian. In exchange, FGM wanted to get into the royal family so they arranged the curse that had Fiona to turn into an ogre, that way true love's kiss from Prince Charming would end their bargain.
Like I said in the Shrek video, I'm sure that Fiona could have been transformed into a human when the curse was broken IF he married Farquaad or some other human (like Prince Charming) but since Shrek was the one breaking the curse, she says an ogre.
Excellent reaction! Yeah, along with Sing 2, and Toy Story 2, and 3, Shrek 2 at least is better than 1. Definitely wouldn’t say the same about 3, and 4. Anyway, I liked the twists like how the fairy godmother was a villain instead of typical sidekick for hero, and things like that. Also, how could you not like the newer characters, especially Puss In Boots? Anyway, awesome reaction yet again!

There's 2 Thumbelina movies I saw as a kid. Thumbelina by Warner Brothers is a romance. Thumbelina: a Magical World by Classic Fables is a coming of age story. I recall being offended by the moral of the story for the second one, but I can't even remember what it was. I wonder if watching it as an adult would make any difference.
The pepper in the face is meant to be the equalent for PEPPER SPRAY, which cops uses on criminals. Should have been obvious.
I liked the fact that the Fairy Godmother is the villain because it changes of the traditionnal tale where she's obviously a good person.
I think the deal between her and the King was she gives him his " happily ever after " (becoming human) and in exchange Charming and Fiona will be married. So she cursed Fiona and locked her in the tower until Charming's arrival.
Tom Thumb and Thumbelina are the heroes of two tales. They're rhe tiniest tales' characters.

A lot of people don’t notice but when the king pours the potion in the tea he actually does pour it in the one on the right and when he brings it to Fiona he takes the one on the right, so she never drank it.
