Sam was also never acting like his friend. He was just dismissing his questions by putting on an ironic facade because he had no interest in actually contributing to the guys hit piece. Sam just knew the guy would be forced to interview him for the story. So, Sam obliged the interview request for an opportunity to force the guy to sit through some verbal abuse and have his time wasted.
