Seeing the marriage of todays technology with the reef keeping hobby really makes me appreciate what the early reefers had to go through to get here. A very good explanatory video.

Hello gentleman, for the calcium reactor it self. Does it matter if the pumps return is coming through the buttom or the top? Mine for some reason it injects the water from the top and sucks it back into pump from bottom. Is this normal? Or dangerous?

This depends on the specific calcium reactor you are using and the intended design. Feel free to share on here or send an email to social@marinedepot.com with a bit more detail on your reactor and we can help you further.

Hi Maine Dport, I'm sorry to say that it's too much complicated and confusing stuff for a basic or mid-level reef hobbyist. I'm happy for all yours videos uploaded for us. But I'm totally confused with different opinions and products. Please briefly explain about all these sump elements like reactors (Carbon, Phosphate, Bio-pellet, Nitrate, GFO and Calcium), refugium and especially when do we require them? If we include all these equipment to our sump, it'll be double than our main tank size :P So I request you to please suggest us the required stuff/equipment by level/budget wise understanding according to the dimensions of the tank rather than dumping the subject online to confuse basic/advance level learners like me.
    Thank you.

I think the main concept here is to understand that every Reef Tank is different and the filtration system will be just as different. Therefore, the filtration system will be custom to your situation.
Start with the basic sump, protein skimmer and return pump. Then research a bit more about how each of the different components can benefit your tank. Also, we have a great customer support team that is happy to provide free one on one support.
