The first 4 albums are masterpieces.😄👍
Nobody sounded and looked like Danzig in 1988, it was a breath of fresh air. Their first three albums are amazing, after that it's hit and miss.
The 4th album is Amazing also
I liked the 1st, Loved the 2nd, liked most of the 3rd (sistinas was boring AF) - but the rest are Mostly Miss. Even aside from music, He thinks he's some kind of horror auteur now but the stuff is laughably cringe. And it's hard to maintain a tough guy image when you get decked by North Side Kings....
@@franciskocher200 One of my favs, certainly.
@@garmisra7841 he was knocked out because he wasn't expecting that punch, and he could have beat the shit out of the guy but the fat guy ran. Also danzig was afraid that this was a planned fight to sue him after.
@@slash1635: Stop lying on behalf of a 5'0" creep. He should've expected the punch because he started the fight. Danny NSK didn't run anywhere - he was grabbed by a bouncer. The video shows that you've fallen for weak lies by a weak man. That lie about fearing getting sued is pathetic. Stop fanboying.
Those first four albums, simply amazing. Nothing like putting blues, metal, and Jim Morrison in a blender and creating that heavy, grungy sound.
Not a single mention of chuck biscuits on drums😢 one of the best drummers ever that no one talks about.
He’s actually a respected punk drummer. Now, John Christ is a great guitarist who is not talked about as much as he should be.

@@purpletemple1 Danzig 4 is a favorite of mine. The depth of that album always impresses.
One of the great aspects of listening to Chris is his passion and straightforward talk - for what he likes a lot and also what he does not. So great to have Chris and Pete as a duo for this episode. Thanks for the ranking, guys. Now time to try some Danzig.

The Lost Tracks of Danzig is fantastic compilation!
Danzig 5, Skeleton & Elvis are WTF slash facepalm
Personally I think black laden crown is great. But I agree the mix could better. I like most things Tommy victor is part of including obviously prong and the ministry
An absolute prize 🏆/ a show with Chris ALO/ tremendous episode. I did tell Chris on Oct 1 in NY, that in like 9️⃣2️⃣ or 9️⃣3️⃣ in the NJ railroad I worked in, a kid said he knocked out Glen Danzig at a NJ bbq 🍗 Thanks again Pete and “ the legendary King ALO. Will be playing DANZIG this Sunday afternoon 👍💯
The debut will always be my favorite, the first 4 are amazing 🤘 I always found the first few "experimental" albums had a certain charm to them, but nothing beats the first 4
Danzig 4 is the most shoplifted cd in history. That due to its packaging lending it to be easily cut opened and the disc slide off from the cardboard cover without having to remove the cardboard cover from the security plastic. One of the first cardboard cd releases.
That's the one I have!
I was assistant A&R at Def American and also as one of Rubin’s personal assistants during the early 90’s when those great albums were being released. I knew Tommy Victor, Joey Castillo and Josh Lazie back in the day, Tommy and Joey are super cool guys, but didn’t get along with Josh at all
The debut and Lucifuge are incredible. Danzig's work in both the Misfits and Samhain is amazing as well. It was really intersting to see how Glenn Danzig evolved as an artist. The change of sound from Samhain's November Coming Fire which has a Goth rock meets metal and hard core punk to the debut which has a sparse Sabbath/ Early Zeppelin meets the Doors was quite incredible. November Coming Fire and Danzig's debut are my favorite two albums by Glen. He went on his own trajectory. A lot of the time it worked and sometimes it didn't but he was an artist who forged his own path. And what an unbelievable voice. Great conversation.
November Coming Fire is amazing. I don't think I could go without hearing it (at least) a few times each year even up until now.
Pete when are you going to rank monster magnet albums? They seem like too big a band to have been missed! Also how about killing joke and ministry?
Pete you had some interesting insight into the electric Miles Davis albums. You should give Blackacidevil another listen. It has more in common with Einsturzende Neubauten or Throbbing Gristle than it does with Manson or White Zombie.. it was recorded live with no sequencing or programming.
HOLYYYYY SHIT!! WHAT THE FUCK!! chris, dude-we know ya love Glen's stuff but do ya gotta go over every fucking nuance? FUCK, we're gonna be drawing Social Security before it's over. we got shit to do, i gotta go eat my Philly Cheese Steak, WHAT THE FUCK!! 1-How the Gods Kill
2-Lucifuge
3-Danzig I
4-Danzig IV
Any SOT episode with Mr. Alo in the co-captain's chair is one that I watch immediately. Always the most informative & entertaining episodes on the channel. Thanks for this one gents
1. How The Gods Killed
2. Danzig
3. Lucifuge
4. Danzig 4
*I used to own the 5th-7th albums, but was never a fan after the original lineup disbanded.
Great overview - this will be very helpful as I have only very recently discovered Danzig, so am now working thru their catalogue. Bought Danzig 2 (Lucifuge) to start. Good stuff!
The early stuff is Blues/Metal at it's absolute best. The first 4 are masterpieces.
😄👍
For me, right now (might change, some of them are so close in ranking for me).
1. 4P
2. How The Gods Kill
3. Satans Child
4. Danzig
5. Deth Red Sabeoth
6. The Lucifuge
7. Circle Of Snakes
8. BlackAcidDevil
9. I Lucifera
10. Black Laden Crown
I enjoy a bunch of the covers on Skeletons and Danzig Sings Elvis is... well it is an album of some sort. I dig DemonSweatLive, the two studio originals on that is great!
The Lost Tracks of Danzig is mandatory listening, some really great stuff on there. I'm not a fan of Kiss The Skull and I despise Wicked Pussycat (worst song he ever wrote imo), remove those and perhaps another song or two from I Lucifera and add all the songs from Lost Tracks recorded during that album and I Lucifera would probably be in my top 5.
It's crazy to thing that BLACK acid devil, BLACK laden crown and the BLACK album from metallica are "hated" albuns, maybe the word black is cursed lol
Pete. I don’t disagree about Black Laden Crown. So explain to me why we love Hotter Than Hell so much.
Cause the songs are amazing...
My small issue with the first album is it’s straight-ahead hard rock with not much diversity. I like when they slow things down here and there. You know, mix things up.
And for the hell of it, I included the cover albums...
1. Danzig II: Lucifuge
2. Danzig III: How the Gods Kill (I have an OG vinyl pressing)
3. Danzig 4 (My original thin digipack is beat to hell)
4. Danzig
5. Deth Red Sabaoth
6. Circle of Snakes
7. I Luciferi
8. Skeletons
9. Black Laden Crown
10. 6:66 Satan’s Child
11. Blackacidevil
12. Danzig Sings Elvis
The era between 88-94 was fantastic. Really love his stuff during this period.
1. How the Gods Kill 10/10
2. Danzig 9/10
3. 4p 8/10
4. Lucifuge 8/10
5. Satan's Child 7/10
6. Deth Red Sabaoth 7/10
7. Circle of Snakes 6/10
8. Blackacidevil 6/10
9. Black Laden Crown 6/10
10. I Luciferi 5/10
11. Skeletons/Danzig Sings Elvis (no rating)
Why no rating on the last one?
@@slash1635 bc its a side thing cover album. Im only rating originals.
I always wanted to get this band's catalog. This ranking these albums helps. Thank you Pete and Chris
Those first 4 albums are top shelf!
As for performance, I found Danzig hit or miss. Mainly because of the way he holds the mic. He misses it a lot.
Well done guys.
I have always had a soft spot for Lucifuge, always enjoyed the dark, moody bluesy album. Has a certain charm to it!
I got back and forth between Lucifuge and How the Gods Kill being my number one. The debut is my number 3, and the fourth album is 4. I adore all of those albums with the original lineup. Danzig 5 was a huge disappointment. I really like good industrial metal. Danzig 5 is not good industrial metal. No one wanted a Danzig album that sounds like dollar store Nine Inch Nails. Luckily, Danzig got back on track with the next few albums.
Thanks for doing this. Very worthy ranking.
2, 3, dethh Red, 4, 1, Lost Tracks,
Glen is an excellent songwriter. Any band. Any era. Dethh Red Sabodath has killer songwriting.
The third one is so cool from Danzig. The last Samhain is awesome too.
Love the Elvis and cover records.
The lost tracks one rocks.
Love Danzig.
On self sabatoge kick. Artists go through this if they get attention. You want people to hear your stuff but not to loose yourself, your soul. Just a journey. Repeats.
Put out a new album Glen!
I'd rank them the same as Chris, except 4p is either my #1 or #2, as I flip between that and the debut. I'm glad he put Deth Red Sabaoath at #5 as it's easily the best post original band album. I might even like it more than III, but I would need to do a side by side taste test to say that definitively.
Every Danzig album is certainly very good, some are great. For me, Danzig, Danzig ll-Lucifuge and Danzig lll-How The Gods Kill are certainly their best by far. But by all means, explore all of their albums. Very well worth it. Powerful stuff.
😄👍
@@franciskocher200 😀
I hated both of the cover albums he did just really bad.
Rank the Misfits Discography I fucking dare you
Wow, my list is the same as Chris' except I have Lucifuge at #1 and the first one at #2. I just like the production better on Lucifuge. I've been a fan of him since about '81. Really nice guy, too. Thanks for the video, guys!
Horror Business is my favorite Danzig album.
Yaee guys Danzig !!!!!! Lets rock !!!!
Peter and Chris!!! Two of my favorites 😁
Great surprise Danzig rankings knew Chris would be on
My ranking is exactly the same as Alo's. The 4th and 3rd albums are very close to me, but I like the songs on 4th a little better. The 1st and 2nd are very close too. But the debut is more to the point. The 2nd has a better sound but is not a "10 killers no fillers" like the first one (and I like the dry sound on it - that Rick Rubin/Andy Wallace no reverb sound). Also, the debut was not only the first Danzig album I've heard, but the first time I ever heard Glenn singing. I knew about the Misfits, but by 1989/90 there was not a way in hell you could find a Misfits album in Brazil. PS; The "Lost Tracks" comp. is also a good listening - lot of gems there.
I really enjoy the Thrall-Demonsweat live CD.

My #1 was always II Lucifuge because it was the first one I bought even though I did know like 4 songs from S/T but I bought II used at Rasputin Records in Berkley Ca. and the previous owner put an orange biohazard sticker on it and wrote in black magic marker EVIL so I had to buy it and when I played it I was blown away. I still own it of course and I did buy Black acid devil and absolutely hated it and stopped buying Danish after that, maybe I should check more out I only own the first 4 and black acid devil and Death Red.
1. Lucifuge Highlights- The entire fucking album.
2. How the Gods Kill- Title Track, Dirty Black Summer
3. Danzig 4- Until You Call On the Dark, Little Whip, Cantspeak

11. 777 Luciferi- Wicked Pussycat, Black Mass
Nobody ever mentions Soul Eater and how badass it is
Dirty Black Eye.😅
My favorite is definitely the self titled i liked it from the start. It just took my awhile to go beyond the first few albums. Probably because I was a huge Misfits fan from like age 10 and Danzig is way different musically so it took time to grow on me.
Danzig II is one of the best metal albums ever.
1) Danzig
2) Danzig II - Lucifuge
3) Danzig III: How the Gods Kill
4) Danzig: 4p

8) Danzig 6:66: Satans Child

Chris forgot to mention that Danzig had the best line in any song ever. “When I get a hold of you honey, I’m gonna light you up like Christmas”.
that’s a cover
It makes sense that the Misfits shows would be spread out because i remember Glenn saying that he had grown really tired of touring, and just wanted to record albums and make movies.
Yep, true! He still loves playing, but hates touring!
Been waiting for this! My ranking 1-4 (in that order), 7, 6, Deth Red Sabaoth, Black Laden Crown, Blackacidevil - shoutout to the Lost Tracks compilation. Some great stuff on there (cold, cold rain, Buick Mackane)!

10 - Black Laden Crown
Crazy to me that Danzig was introduced to me through Metallica and their Misfits covers, listened to the debut and thought "HOLY CRAP IS THAT JAMES??" during Twist Of Cain... I love that debut, man, it's genuinely phenomenal.
Weird to think about how Metallica started doing covers of Misfits songs during 87? James did the Danzig I songs in that same year probably... then Danzig and Metallica blew up. Now all these years later, in turn, the Misfits have went from sort of underground cult band to one of the biggest reunions and punk bands of all time.
My top 5
1- Lucifuge
2- Danzig
3- How The Gods Kill
4- Danzig 4
5- Deth Red Sabato
I'll always remember watching The John Stewart show years ago and he had John Tesh on the show pushing his new album, and they were sitting at the piano and John Stewart starts singing "Mother" on the piano, and then he says to John Tesh "It's Danzig". John Tesh looked bewildered..he had no clue. Then John Stewart had Danzig on the show and Danzig was playing Can't Speak live, and Danzig tripped over the monitor. He tried to recover as gracefully as he could, but he looked pissed off.
I listen to Danzig since Vol.1 that I bought in 1989. The first 4 albums are very good, after which his voice and compositions declined. but I still listen and respect him. Long live Glenn!!!

I love every one of these albums. They are all good albums I can listen to each one from start to finish.Being a huge Samhain fan.I don't listen to production quality as closely as a lot of people do.I can appreciate some of the complaints people have with some of the mixes and production.I appreciate the later albums like Deth Red and Black Laden alot.Because I just appreciate that Glenn is still putting music out.He wouldn't have to.I highly doubt Glenn is making much money from them.If he was greedy he would stop making new music and just tour with the Misfits.I think his catalog is so great because of so much diverse sound.Bands that sound the same every album get boring in my opinion.Ac/DC is a good band but after a while.I feel like I've heard it all before. My question is when if ever are we going to get remasters of Danzig 1-4?I would like remasters of the first six albums.
Not a big fan,but he's produced some great "Darkness". I've always referred to Glenn as - Black-magic Elvis. Probably like 50% of his catalog....which includes: DANZIG,DANZIG 2,HOW THE GODS KILL,CIRCLE OF SNAKES.
I love ""Satan's Child"".It is a very,very dark album.Almost menacing in a weird way.
I’d say it’s a toss up between Danzig 1 and 2 for their best album. Then How the Gods Kill followed by Danzig 4. Blackacidevil is obviously their worst. The rest of them don’t capture the magic of the first three (or four), but are not terrible either.
I saw Danzig in Wiesbaden, Germany at a sold out show in 2018. They started with three of their newer songs and the crowd was not into it at all. But after that tame opening, the rest of the show was just classics from the first three albums, maybe one or two from Danzig 4 also, and the place went absolutely insane. The crowd singing along to How the Gods Kill nearly blew the roof off. Last song before the encore, Glenn said in an Elvis-like voice, «We got one more song to do. You know what it is!» It was of course Mother, and the place went even more crazy. He and the band definetly put on a great show that night.
I had tickets for four Danzig shows in the summer of 2020, but unfortunately something came up and and they had to postpone them to the summer of 2021. Then something came up again and and they just cancelled the shows altogether. Now I guess he’ll never be coming back for a Europe tour again…
I remember staying until 3am in Ireland, just to see Mother repeated. The previous week was all kinds of "Did you see Danzig, tear a chicken in half and trace a bloody inverted cross on some chick's tummy?" No!! I'm seeing a repeat right now, stop calling me!!
Hi Pete, I always enjoy your rankings most, but one important legendary American metalband is missing. Can you do a ranking of RIOT(V)??
they have a ton of albums, and I only have the first 7 of them...
@@seaoftranquilityprog But they we're so important, during the dawning of the NWOBHM, they we're pioneers of that style. But then as an American band!! And they never made one weak album... Was a huge fan of the first two albums a few years ago when I had just turned 16. I will now go check out the 3rd album. Great video.
The 4th is Amazing also
I love The Misfits, Samhain and some Danzig…mainly the first 4 albums!! After that I like a lot but there’s also a lot I don’t like
That auto sabotage thing is kinda of bs to me. Danzig played at arenas, misfits played at arenas, just that already proves my point. And wtf, everybody loves money..
My ratings:

3. Godless and How the Gods Kill are fantastic.
1 like Pete said mix of the doors and Sabbath.
Dont listen to the others.

Been waiting for this video for a long time. Chris’s ranking is spot on I think. Danzig 5 is one of those fascinating albums akin to Celtic frost ‘Cold Lake’ or Discharge ‘Grave New World’ where a band just totally jumps the shark and fucks up creatively after such an innovative run. Blackacidevil is so bad I find it pretty funny sometimes actually. The opening line on it where SCREAMS out ‘girl I’m gonna make you c*m!’ Over bad programmed beats used to make my friends and I chuckle back in the day. Also I’m sorry but when he has been doing his own production over the last few albums Glen is ruining albums that actually have some decent songs!
Love Death Red im in the trash business and I find CD's all the time and I came across this one and had wrote Danzig off for years It's my # 4 great stuff
Blackacidevil is the only album I’ve ever returned after purchase and demanded a refund. I was such a loyal customer of my local record store, I believed they had an obligation to warn me it was total shit.
I will help you rank the Danzig albums and make it very simple. The first five were the best and they can be ranked simply in that order by number in which they come anything after that not so great on the the 5th album was was kind of a stinker
I'm not sure exactly how I would rank them all, but Lucifuge is number one for sure.
Chris needs to be a guest on the curse of the collector show. He has a treasure trove of stuff to show
My top 4 are: 3, 2, 1, 4
Really sad we didn't get to hear a Alo rant on the Elvis album, that needs its own episode really
The production on the first 4 are amazing. Need them on vinyl to live!
Hi Pete, I would love to see you rank the albums of the prog band Pendragon.
I just double checked to see if I have the original pressing of Danzig II with the booklet folding to a cross and I do not. 😐
I just recently heard the song mother on an internet radio show for the first time and had no idea who it was and i immediately loved that song. Im now gonna check out some of these albums starting with the debut.

11:33 circle of snakes
12:48 red death sabaoth
17:47 satan's child
Only 1 min in and I can not wait to hear Alo rant about Danzig 5. The anticipation is palatable...
So IMO:
1. III
2. II
3. I
(All awesome, what an amazing band, great sounding records too)
4. Circle of Snakes
(A bit cheap sounding and suffers from the nu metal market norms of the time but a lot of the songs are very strong)
5. 6
6. 7
(Patchy, bad NIN vibe w/ the production but a good handful of strong songs still)
7. 4p (honestly think this is a mess, great Biscuits performance but the songs massively regress back into Samhain territory and waste that killer band's potential)
8. Deth Red Sabboth
9. Black Laden Crown
(Bizarre cheap production, I appreciate the economics of the Biz has changed but why bother if you aren't going to treat your art w/ a little respect - just jam them out live w/ the band SST / 70's rock style, f'christs sake!
10. Blackacidevil
(Absolute car crash, I really love the Waxtrax industrial scene and I kinda get the idea on paper (esp w/ Glen's ego and why he'd want to get rid of the band) but the results are spectacularly cringe, genuinely one of the worst records I own)
Misfits legend has grown because of that skeleton face you see on t shirts!
Glad to see Chris back doing Music rankings with Pete. The weird thing is I also couldn't find the first Danzig CD ! As for myself, I find it hard listening to anything after the first 4 albums.
Is there a thief going around and just stealing copies of Danzig I? :)
Lost tracks is his best shi!!
Lost Fights, in Danzig's case, would be a better title.
I saw Glen with the Misfits this year at the aforementioned Misfits show at the Rock.At age 68 he still got it
1. Danzig II 2. Danzig I 3. Danzig III 4. Deth Red then the rest.
Just list them in chronological order
