🌄🌄 Good Show Though I didn't catch on to the sad part .... The key to easy winterizing is to have all your water lines drain down to petcocks into a pail so you do not have to pump in the pink stuff ...... Then step 1 is to turn off the water, Step 2, Flush the toilets, step 3, plunge the toilets, Step 4, pour a cup or two of the pink stuff into all the sinks and toilet traps. Make sure all the faucets are left in the open position. Step 5 is make yourself look busy while others are carrying in firewood for when you get home. Takes me 10 minutes to do a four bedroom, 2 bath house and a half gallon of the pink stuff from Walmart.
Nice.....sounds pretty awesome.
Be nice if we all could get Jen and Jay up to 45k by the end of December. Nice way to start the New Year.He has a excellent video every time. Educational, funny and they show people how to work together. luv you guys.😊
Thank you so much Sheila.....really means a lot to us. 😊
Every like, comment, and share helps us grow so thats all we can ask of our subscribers! We would love to get there as well!
Saw your interview on Girl in the Woods channel, so now I subscribed to your channel. You guys are living the good life. Love the view from your cabin. Keep up the good work! Also.....Merry Christmas!
Awesome....thanks Dave. Welcome
I did the same!
Me too!
Same here!
Beautiful sunrise
Good explanation and showing how to do it.
I too an winterizing. Last night it got down to 49 here in California! Buuuurrr!
This was a great video....took no time at all to winterize!
I was pretty happy with it too. ☺️
EXCELLENT 👍 TY
That's always a sad day at our camp when we have to winterize the campers, and happy when April comes around and we clean out all the antifreeze. Enjoy your time away from the cabin.
Tolles Video 🤗👍
Better safe tahn sorry, it's a good idea to winterize the cabin so you can be sure that no pipes will break due to the cold😊
Love your videos and enjoy watching them. May the lord bless and protect you and Jen and working on the homestead siding
Thanks for this. Let me take my time and watch without pressure
If I had a cabin like yours, it'd take a lot for me to leave for any period of time. But, I know things come up, and it's inevitable that at some point, the occasion will come when you don't have a choice, and have to leave. So, that said, there are a few things I'd do. 1. Build a box around all your water fixtures under the cabin, and insulate it well, so all the heat from the light would keep it above freezing. In the cabin, I'd have a thermostatic controlled propane heater to keep the inside pipes from freezing. Some heat pads near the outlets on the tanks to keep them from freezing. Then, all the bases are covered if you have to leave. And, it would also be a plan should both of you get sick while there and just don't feel like keeping the fire going.
On another note, hows the solar panels for the shed doing?
Ya we don't like to leave and don't leave often, but this time of year there are lots of holiday celebrations and friends and family to see.
What the heck?? lol I guess we are watching in reverse…. Watched the most recent snowy 2 & then this one popped up!! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!
Ha.....it happens guys. Lol
Y'all got it pretty good for the first time! I'm sure there is a bit of a learning curve. I think you got it done well! Enjoy your time away from the cameras and cabin! Happy Holidays and keep smiling, JB!
👋😉😁🎄☃️🥶☺️
Miss you
B. Happy guys and the view is beautiful ❤❤
Make some down state videos. I might be the only one interested 😅
Ha......a lot of boring stuff happens down there , lol
Save a couple of empty water or soda bottles and put in filter housing. Use less antifreeze and if it were to freeze the bottle will crush before housing breaks. Make sure you put the lid on empty bottle before putting in housing. Good luck and enjoy your content
This is smart.....love it .....seriously
Lots of good planning made that go smoothly! Great job!
I remember when we would close the cabin in Harrison every winter. When we did use the cabin in the winter we only used the toilet, melting snow and draining it and antifreeze in again. All the water lines we didnt use. Safe travels have fun. ❤
Campers now have a low point drain and the pipes slant down just a bit towards the low point valve so you can open the faucets and the low point valve and drain the entire system. You might choose to do that in the future to keep from using so much water to flush it in the spring. You still have to drain the water heater and in your case the filters.
But it only takes a few gallons of water to flush
Jay
Looks like you had set up a good system that was easy to winterize.
Hope you enjoyed your mini vacation.
Definitely had me thinking something bad happened! Good job on the skirting! Hope you enjoy your time downstate 🥳
Just no constant source of water, running water is definitely something everyone takes for granted. Life at the cabin is hard without running water. Melting snow takes time lol
@@OffgridwithJayandJen for sure! Hopefully we will get a mild short winter .. wishful thinking? 😂
A guy living off grid in quebec has his water collection tank inside a heated shed attached to his cabin, so he is able to have water in the winter. Of course it’s probably not enough for a whole winter, but could last a while with good conservation.
Let the cold air commence 😂
your class K fire Extinguisher in the battery house will freeze Quickly.
You know someone else pointed that out. I will have to do something about that.....but honestly it has been outside for 3 or 4 years and no issues yet
Winter sucks, eh? 🇨🇦🙂👍👍
Little bit, lol
A couple of thoughts. Taking the cover off the one p-trap might let creepy crawlies and unwelcome critters into the cabin. It looks like that’s the shower base drain. You may be surprised when you get back. Also, you might want to drive a nail and leave the filter wrench hanging underneath next to them. That way you don’t have to go looking for it the next time, especially if it doesn’t have a permanent home. Everything you did looks great. Similar to me winterizing my travel trailer.

Good point, I'll probably close that drain up ASAP. 😊
Don't forget the pink stuff in the drain after closing it up. @@OffgridwithJayandJen
I think it would be a good idea to also add that last section of metal over the bubble wrap to keep groundhogs and the like out from under your cabin. They can do a LOT of damage while making their tunnel homes. Ask me how I know.
Lovely sky view.
Great video. The next stage would be to have a system to run through the winter. I have seen some bury a tank to keep it from freezing. Dunno but sounds like a challenge. 😊
Have a safe trip!😍🇨🇦
Happy that went well for you.
Enjoy your trip and time away! 🎉😉 Wishing you safe travels. I always enjoy your videos and can't wait until the next one
Very fonctionnal ! Good job, as always !
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! You never cease to amaze me.❤️❤️🐾🐾🐾
hope all is ok
Great episode! I would consider myself an OG sub. Careful with the clickbait episode titles.
I don't understand why it is clickbait.....no boobs or butt shots.....just a sad day at the cabin, we now have to work harder for water....it is sad that we can't us our water system. Simple. Have a nice day
Great work but why would leave the pee trap open aren’t you worried about the mice getting up that pipe? Have a great 3 day down state hope you in joy your self here from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦😎
Well close it up ! Good thinking.
good job "wooterizing" the cabin
HA....LOVE IT
I worry about your fuzzy babies and that hill by your garage
Don't worry my friend
How little do people appreciate power and water. Tesla had wireless power and of course water is all important to property when buying.... would you of bought this property knowing no water was available on it? Most say yes but I really don't think most people realize how important water is.
Thank you for understanding.....and most importantly commenting and shining some perspective to those who don't understand. Appreciate you my friend
Jay and Jen,
Love the channel. For the water issues, have you considered digging a well? Thanks
Yes ww have, but there is not a way to get equipment to dig one, any where close to the cabin. Possibly by camp , but not by the cabin
@@OffgridwithJayandJen Even if the water table is 3-4 hundred feet below at the cabin, that would be no problem for you Jay to dig it out with a shovel. Make sure Jen ties a rope around you to pull you out. I’m kidding of course. Love the channel and am always looking for to the next video. 😎
WASHING MACHINE/HOT TUB.......is there still water in the washing machine internal lines....and hot tub lines?....cheers and stay warm.
Ya the hot tub needs some attention
Jay nice job. As always, good content. Question did you run the antifreeze through the outside hose line.
All the outside lines are just directly from other tanks to the separate pump....so we just detached it all
Think the rv stuff is just a mix of ethanol and water. So I guess you could use cheap vodka and it would so the same? I've always just drained our rv of water at its low point and never put in antifreeze. Maybe I've just been lucky.
If I could get a gallon of cheap vodka for less than 3 bucks I might try it lol
I do something similar except I hook an air hose to the system and blow all the water out first. What do you do about the large tank of water?
I'm going to drain it if we decide to no use it again this year
Do you empty both water catchment systems as well? Seems like even though they’re 275 gals, it would still freeze at some point.. 🤷♂️ maybe they’re durable enough to hold the water, but the valves, can they withstand freezing temps? Thanks
I try and Empty them out before they freeze yes. Although last year and this year a couple have frozen already and i'll have to hope for the best. Same happen last year with out single catchment tank and it survived without damage, but the better choice is to empty them before deep freeze sets in.
🙏❤️👍👍👍
✌❤❤🤗
We just bought a property that goes through cold weather temperatures, and we are from deep south Texas, where we don't get much cold weather. Is turning off the water at the shut-off and opening the faucets good enough?
If Temps reach below freezing typically you need to turn water off, then open the drain valves on both your water heater and well pressure tank. It all really depends on how the home or cabin is plumbed to be honest....opening a low spot for all the water lines to back drain is often required at the very least. Also adding antifreeze to your sink traps and toilet is necessary.
@OffgridwithJayandJen Thank you. I will check on that.
I didn’t see you put any anti freeze in the toilet
Good point.....that toilet is self contained and if not full, so should be able to expand and contract a bit without issues
What is the Green Store?
Menards
Thanks.
What state are you all located
Michigan
🇳🇴👍👍👌
Sorry. Gotta call it. CLICK BAIT!!!! Ya had me concerned something bad had happened.
Yeah, kinda off-putting.
I haven't watched yet, is everything okay?
Yes...that sucks
How is it clickbait ? We won't have running water for 3-4 months. Life is much harder without running water. Have to melt snow or collect water for washing dishes, showering, brushing teeth etc. Running water is something ongrid people definitely take for granted.
The first sentence, “A Sad Day at the Office Grid Cabin”. That’s what.
