I've heard many recordings of this cantata, this one is certainly one of the best. Transparent, beautiful singing and playing, thanks to the small ensemble a nice intimate atmosphere.
Okay, I may have just become a Jonathan Hanley superfan. Beautiful, clear timbre. Solid, easy low notes (not so common for a tenor!) as well as high ones. Expressive phrasing, committed delivery, great clarity of line in the choruses. Excellent trill. And absolutely terrific diction. Wow.
Thank you all very much for your hard work to present this Easter gift to the world under pandemic conditions. Loved the voices, the diction, the instruments, the translated subtitles, the setting, and the camera and recording work. More people need to hear this video, so I'll be sharing it. Soli Deo gloria!
This has nothing to do with a "pandemic size" ensemble, it is the amount of musicians and singers Bach needed, had and still needs today as was proven by the Bach specialists Joshua Rifkin and Andrew Parrott!
@@tobiasstudtheol You may have misunderstood my comment, or perhaps you meant your reply for someone else. The performance was, and continues to be, a glorious Easter gift to a troubled, dying world, and I appreciate the ensemble's dedication and courage. I have listened to it many times. Hallelujah!
hey, just a random chorus member doing his homework here. was here for "es war ein wunderlicher Krieg", and thought what you've accomplished with only 4 singers was AMAZING! that song inherently has such little breathing room amidst that many Germans lyrics that need every consonant to be taken care of, and they were delivered perfectly!
Wundervolle Bassstimme 😍 Sehr schöne Interpretation. Trotz der Leichtigkeit, da ich die Bach-Interpretationen von Karl Richter sehr schätze. Hat mir große Freude bereitet.
A revelation ... I have a feeling of how it may have sounded in Bach's time. The singers are outstanding, so attune to each other and so transparent, the blend is outstanding. Kudos aplenty to all the artists. BRAVO!
Hello Stuart! (Remember Borealis Choir and Hans Gál?) Good to hear you singing in such a beautiful Bach cantata, and a stunning performance by all involved, thank you!
Absolutely beautiful the ensemble and the voices BUT the accelerare in the Halleluja of the first choir is not necessary. I had the chance of doing this cantata with Thomaskantor herr Hans-Joachim Rotzsch and he didn't increased the tempo signifincantly; he just let him go with the natural rythim of the semiquavers in the score. Notwithstanding the aforementioned, I think this is one of the most beautiful verisions of this cantata I´ve ever heard. Congrats!!!!
I love continuo in alto & soprano versus (theorbo impro wow!) and slow-ish tempo in Basso versus giving it major gravitas. Middle chorus a little rushed (for me) at the expense of stability and “Die Schrift hat verkündet das” coming into its own. Appreciate times are tight but really missed the colla parte cornets and sackbuts in choral movements. Would love details on cello, great solid resonant sound. Great effort overall, excellent voices and instrument playing!

I really like the bass soloist. I'm glad he sings the low E2 (one ledger line below the bass staff). I as a bass singer myself cringe when I hear some baritone alter the music so he doesn't sing the low E.
First, my apologies for not replying in Italian. Performing BWV 4 without cornett and trombones is legitimate. Bach is known to have performed this piece three times: in 1707 in Mühlhausen, and in 1724 and 1725 in Leipzig. Only in 1725 did he use the cornett and trombones.
Unfortunately the players are wearing silly masks. It must be a modern Catholic church because the crucifix is put off to the side. Suggest listening without watching.
The beauty of this Kantata is out of this world , and unrivaled, and indescribable, and off the charts

Beautiful performance; marvellous singers and musicians. Must find more about this great ensemble.
Technically superb. Artistically felt and attuned to the almost medieval roots of the composition. Thank you!
Just discovered Zimmermann Band...and...Wow!
an outstanding performance of the cantata. The best I have heard!
Have you heard Harnoncourt's?

Thank you for contribution to Bach's Oeuvre. Well performed in solo Besetzung. Doesn't matter how many impressions it made. Great work!
Maravilloso ⭐️

The most red-haired rendition ever.
It's true. They may have to change their name to The Ginger Band.

Good job Chris, Ollie, Tristram and co :)
St Gabriel's in Pimlico, London, the church is beautiful, along with this inspired rendition of Luther's handiwork.
Ideal music for COVID times! Real memento Mori consideration!
Maravilhosa interpretação.
Excellent!
Other than the parallel octaves in the second movement, this performance is absolutely wonderful.
What?
My go-to for BWV 4…
Mine was put out by Vanguard Records in 1960. Dark, heavy, passionate. But I can't find it on the net.

Delivered with clarity and gusto. Brave tempi, especially on the duet but it works very well.

I feel ya, but altering the music is better than trying to sing the low E and failing.
@@mwnyc3976 Pick a bass, not a baritone to sing the solo. That low E is an easy note for me to sing.
pas mal du tout

La cantata è sublime comunque, .ma perché omettere tromboni e cornetto?

Bass is bravissimo. Sadly one of the strings in his aria wasn't in tune.
The face diapers drove me from this. It's like imposing anti-logos deception onto Logos perfection.
