'Perth's original people are the Whadjuk, who lived within a 50km radius around Perth. The Whadjuk are just one of the 14 tribes of the Noongar people. Whadjuk means "The guardians of the link between the land and the sea", this link being the Swan River. Once a year the Whadjuk would travel along Derbal Yarrigan (Swan River) and meet at Walyalup (Fremantle) to celebrate the country and waterway they cared for.'
