    I would not use this in a box
    I would not use this with a fox
    I'd rather use an outdated Nook
    I do not like this old toughbook

    Interestingly I own a JDM Panasonic Let's Note CF-N10, which is about a year newer, but shares exact same case as the CF-S9. In my case, keyboard is actually very sturdy and quite nice, there is something really wrong with your example. As for the hard drive, there should be a handy sticker on the disk, which enables to pull out hard disk without any trouble. It is somehow went missing on your machine...
    Other quirks are the same, but CF-N10 comes with a Sandy-Bridge CPU, larger capacity battery (can go up to 10h), USB3.0 and all this in a very light package (~1.3kg). While the panel is just as flexy, the hinges are very good, smooth and reliable. Overall I would argue, that this is slightly better design than newer Let's Note models!

      Very interesting. Thanks for sharing this information and your experience. It was my first real encounter with a Panasonic unit and it was a bit questionable.

      @@LaptopRetrospective Yes, these are quite rare birds in EU/US market. Only one or two 3rd party companies can actually import them. But in Japan, these are actually quite common, despite their crazy expensive prices (probably, because it's Japanese corporations that do the buying). Most people buy these 2nd hand for personal use. Their strongest points are light weight, high quality batteries (mine is like 9 years now, still 0% wear) and good performance. Also port selection is decent. But as a trade off they usually feature some quirks, feel a bit cheaply made and newer models use weaker hinges, which are known to fail and break.
      P.S.
      Personally I like round touch pad a lot. Wish more laptops could use it. It is small enough not to get into my way when typing and it has very nice circular scroll feature. Newer models use more common rectangular shape, which tend to be quite annoying actually.

    This is too funny. I just picked up my first Panasonic Notebook called the Let's Note CF-NX4. It's not a toughbook, but has the same design and keyboard. From the pictures, it looks like it's built like a tank, in reality not so much. I echo your sentiments, the keyboard is mushy, small and odd and the build is unbelievably light!

    Ooh, you might want to do a video on the Panasonic ToughBook CF-AX3 if ever you get your hands on one. A local used PC and laptop vendor had some for sale for PHP 12,000 (roughly USD 230) but it was too late for me to buy one (figures...). Great channel BTW, especially your ThinkPad vids!

    Can someone please provide info on how to disasemble this thing?
    I need to change the thermal paste and I cannot find the last screw arround the arrow keys to open it fully.
    My DVD is also stuck in a closed position.
    I don't know also how to take out the keyboard.

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  4 года назад

      There is some information in the description of the video including some manuals that might be of use. The DVD drive uses an electronic latch and I remember being told it was a common failure point when I had this on loan.

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  5 лет назад

      It was interesting actually. I had to take it apart off camera and narrow down the talking points first. Then I had to decide which ones would be informative and entertaining. After that it was sitting down with a rhyme dictionary when I got stuck. The writing probably took 40 minutes maybe? Can't say I kept close track.
