I enjoyed this throwback to another era of portable computing very much :)

Is that one of those trackball gadgets I hear about? Very interesting. I'm spoiled by ThinkPads but it's always nice to check in on another mobile computing solution and remember we are not in a monopoly, there's competition and innovation across the world.

It's amazing that almost all notebooks used to look like this, including Apple's. You figure that some company would have tried to make one that looks like a ThinkPad. I mean, today, almost everyone is making notebooks that look like Macbooks.
Long ago, I came across a Japanese ThinkPad with a mini trackball. I don't remember the model number and I'm not sure if it was the 220 that someone posted on Reddit. I don't recall the trackball being red. Wish I had a digital camera back then 😀.

I know the machine you're talking about but can't place the model number right now.

I had the exact same Toshiba back in the day. It's a shame when it stopped working and I tried to fix it as an amateur, I ended up breaking it even more. By the way, it is extremely difficult to disassemble - let alone assemble :D

Repairs on older tech like this is always a gamble. It's why I didn't want to force the battery or look into the floppy drive errors I was getting. That and it wasn't mine. Don't want to break history, let alone someone else's.

Toshibas were very reliable machines back then.

This one still mostly functioning agrees with that statement. 👍

Very cool machine, and I would have loved this as a kid, I was lucky to have a 486 desktop PC at time that my mother eventually helped me upgrade with a Pentium overdrive 100 so I could run Win 95 better for my school work, till I was able to afford a better AMD K6-II system a few years later.

Really cool idea for sure, but I'm very biased...I love using a trackball. Not sure I would be a fan of this unit but still extremely cool.
