My previous dust collection system was decent but it definitely had a few shortcomings. With Oneida's new SuperCell unit, I gave my shop an amazing upgrade to dust collection! Not only did it solve all of the issues I was having with the previous setup but it out-performed it 10-fold! In this video, you'll see the comedic assembly and installation process as well as some not-so-scientific testing of how well it performs. This thing has been an amazing upgrade to the shop and I'm really looking forward to working in a much less dusty environment now!
I really like how it has that mounting bracket and you could do it all yourself. That’s going to serve you well over the years!
I just love your sense of humor! Awesome videos and it have me enlightened and laughing too LOL
Awesome! Thank you!
So I just put together my supercell and I saw your video, thank you very much. Now I like the fact that you are using the reducer to look up your machines so you don’t have to lug around the awkward reinforced dust hose. Is there enough suction to handle your machines, planer tablesaw etc., or would I I have to alternate between the 2 1/2 inch collection and the 4 inch collection.
The smaller hose is more than enough. In fact I had to put on another Y-adapter and blast gate connected to nothing so that I could open it slightly to throttle down the power.
@@FishersShop good to know. If the reducer is too much for my planer I will let you know. I hung the 4” hose on my fence outside.
Be Safe and Healthy, have a great Holiday!!!!
But what solution did the Oneida engineers have for the Chickasaures Rex?!?
This looks like a great upgrade. I really need something better, but need it to be more mobile for now. I’m thinking of trying a dust deputy like your old one on top or a sortimo box mounted to the top of my Bosch vacuum.
Wow Mr. Fisher that is very nice I think I need one just like this for my shop great job Mr. Fisher please keep the videos coming I love it👍👍👍👍
Thanks much! Glad you enjoyed it
I absolutely love how when you're testing, the floor under your planer shavings is cleaner than the floor around it 😂😂😂 just goes to show, you don't know how much better it can be until it is
Exactly!
For a minute there I thought you were going to vacuum the dog! Woof! 🐕 😆
Given last time I did anything out of wood was over a month ago, because since then I've been painting my fence, as I do all this stuff after work - I came here for the outtakes.
Really impressive for something that really sucks.
Amazing product, just wish I had Oneida as a sponsor to float the $2500 unit into my workshop
This is all well and good but for those of us that do not have a sponsorship this thing is north of 2K....I think I'll just keep my little $50 unit and be happy.
Yeah, I was thinking "If I had $2500 lying around, I'd probably spend it on something that makes dust, not collects it."
Money vs lungs. Some time you might regret the decision. But if you can keep air flowing through your workshop to clear out the fine suspended dust, that's better than a great dust extractor recirculating the finest dust
A quality mask will protect your lungs. Wild this unit will cut down on dust in the shop I’ll also cut down your bank account
@@Poundy This unit is not a replacement for a dusk mask. No unit is. It does cut down on the amount of dust floating around but mainly it just makes cleaning your shop easier. If you are doing anything that produces fine dust like sanding, you should still wear a mask.
You forgot to install the optional "neighbours yard extraction pipe". No emptying or bags required. Just a pipeline to the fence and a discreet hole.
Oooo, good idea!
Looks so freakin amazing
Nicely done. What dust collection are you using for your sawstop? Also, is your router table a sawstop side table thingie or a Fisher- designed solution?
Big fan of your work. You make things accessible for guys like me . 👍🏻
I use a dedicated Rikon floor unit for the table saw. The router extension is from Woodpeckers
@@FishersShop Thanks for your quick reply. Presumably, the Rikon is working well given your shop environment. I’ll have to look into the Woodpecker extension. 🤓
Do you have to dig out the clog with a screwdriver after fondu night, too?
Hmmm...at a $2,400 base price, I'm thinking my shop vac with the cobbled together dust separator will have to do for a while...maybe a long while...
Fantastic, Im off to one... also can you organise your merch so that your fans in UK can buy please...
Actually in the process of looking at a different merch vendor that can accommodate.
Step 1 should be to ditch that smaller reducing hose and make all your machines dust ports at least out to the 4" duct - ok, some of them won't be able to do that easily, but seriously, don't restrict the flow more than necessary, because more airflow means more fine dust removal
Can’t do that. Suction is too powerful for me to run a flexible 4” hose to the tools and overhead ducting isn’t possible with my gantry system. What I have is best for this little shop.
You’ve had this system for a while. How is it working for you? I run a one man, full time furniture shop. I purchase all my rough kiln dried lumber directly from a saw. Recently working on a black walnut table using 50 bf and a desk using 30 bf of hard maple. How does the drum handle this type of load? Have you had any issues with the filter clogging on you? How does it work with smaller tools such as random orbital sanders and routers?
Thank you in advance
Yes, it works phenomenally. If you're a full-time shop, I'd recommend getting the larger drum size though otherwise you'll be emptying it more often than you want to. I've never had to get a new filter either. I just keep using the reverse suction lever every so often and it cleans itself. The static pressure is so high on this unit that it works amazingly well no matter what you hook it up to. As an example, the static pressure of the big Laguna P-Flux is like 7. This Supercell is over 90! Basically, that means even if you choke it down, to hook it on smaller tools, it doesn't lose suction. In fact, I've had to install a Y-fitting in my 4" hose with a blast gate to nothing so that I can open it halfway to throttle back the suction when putting it on smaller tools (belt sander, strip sander, etc.) because the suction is so strong.
@@FishersShop I appreciate the feedback. How do you deal with the 80db in a small shop?
It's not that bad, actually. I usually have ear protection on anyway, but even when I don't, it's still tolerable.
@@FishersShop Thank you
Ugggghhhhhhhhh. Fondue night, don't remind me. Great tutorial though, thanks for posting.
Interesting idea to use 3 smaller motors instead of one big one
Ok, but what did they think about the chickasaurus rex? Once you introduced him (or her), it's all I could think about.
Haha, I told my boy to draw a Rhino-duck or something. He came up with this instead. :)
Your poor suffering neighbor. How about adding some type of a horizontal hose spinner type thing for the hose you store under whatever that table thing is. Another hreat video Drew. Thanks
Interesting idea!
It has a remote?! Sold.
$2400 USD so I'll never get one. But was a good video none the less.
@messin with mike I have a small under powered shop vac, that'll do for now
A lot of nice kit- except that the heart is just three brushed motor/impeller units, same basic type as used on the cheapest drum dust extractor. Given the low cost of VFD motors (inverter driven high speed 3 phase motors) these days, you would think they would be available as dust extractors. I have not seen any- anyone know better?
Drew, is the EZ clean bin still holding the plastic garbage bags fine? I see they came out with a bagger separator kit for the dust deputy as well. Needing to upgrade my dust collection.
Seems to work just fine for me, yup.
so do you still use the rikon 1hp dust collector for your table saw? is this super cell basically a super shop vac, and not a replacement for a high volume traditional dust collector? id be interested how your table saw would do hooked up to the super cell compared to how it does hooked up to the rikon. thanks for the great content
I still use the dedicated collector for the table saw. The supercell is much much more than a shop vac. I've seen industrial dust collectors that don't have near the suction that this thing has. Pretty sure the supercell could pull a bowling ball through a drinking straw.
What is the white pipe for to the right of the new dust collector please? It looks it's connected to another dust collector. Thanks
Central Vac for the house.
How is the Static when using the Ridgid tube? Does it have to be grounded like when using PVC pipe? Looking for a dust system it’s about time I upgrade from the shop Vac and The Dust Deputy.
Mine isn’t grounded. Never had a problem so far.
How did you loose a toe? Lemme guess, it got sucked up?
Wammy bar
nice vid even though i still haven't finish it yet
edit:just finished it
I was skeptical about the overall quality, then I saw the spring. Shut up and take my money!
🤣
I’m curious what kind of warranty they have on that spring... I’ve seen other dust collectors you only get 20-30k flicks before they wear out
Well at least you're helping your neighbor get a jump start on composting!!!😂🤣
Yup! See? I’m a great neighbor!
I just imagine someone at Oneida watching this and going, “Coffee grinder?, Traffic Cone?!? What is he....breathe underwater?!? It doesn’t need to...ROBOTS EYEBALL?!? Good Lord, where did they find this guy?!?”
🤣🤣🤣
Loved every minute of this video, as usual. First time commenting though.
Keep up the great work!
Seth
I kind of feel like I’ve been cheated on. As a “frugal by genetics” shop guy, I’m always watching how you McGyver things together in a way that I can, too...it’s kind of therapeutic, I suppose. Then, you put up a video and you’re pulling all of this NEW stuff out of unopened boxes...and it’s shiny and clean. I felt a kinship with you, but now I’m just confused...I don’t know what to feel. Just when I thought 2020 couldn’t throw anymore curves, Drew gets a sponsor, he doesn’t use a flathead screw, and he...sniff...discards all his homemade fittings. Go ahead and talk amongst yourselves...I’ll be curled up in the corner sobbing for a few minutes.
I’m gonna miss the “old” Drew...
I mean... if it makes you feel better, some of his machines go from a 4” port, to a 2.5” hose, to a 4” hose.. instead of just running 4” and necking it down where needed for the 2.5” tools. ‘Cause even getting a $2500 he didn’t spring $50 for new fittings 🤣🤣.
The frugal lives on my friend.
YouCanMakeThisToo There is some consolation in that, I suppose! I think I may be looking at this minor misstep on Drew’s part from the wrong angle. I should be grateful that I have a basement shop to go to and that I’m gathering my materials from the dumpsters in the subdivision under construction across the street rather than my neighbor’s dog house, unlike some people...
Perspective is everything!
and not one bit of unnecessary walnut!!!
@@davidkendrick3158 I'm envious of all of you. The only place I have to do any of this woodworking stuff is in a little shed that is half full of bins from when we moved on one side, and after the few hours on the rare warm winter day, we uncovered the left side of the shed to discover the floor was sloped and needs to be torn out and replaced. Darned groundhog. What to do? I can't trap and relocate it because it is illegal, I can't shoot it because I live in a residential neighborhood, and I can't poison it because with an animal that large it would have enough poison to injure or kill any animal that scavenged the corpse (including pets). So spending $2,400 on a vacuum (although a real kick-butt vacuum) is nice, for the time being I'll have to stick with my shop vac. (sad face).
And what is with the random flathead screw? I'm assuming he used one once and someone griped, so he made a point to keep using them in every video. I'm working my way through his videos, but I haven't seen anything to explain that random act yet. I just laugh each time imagining he is doing it to inflame some arrogant troll. :0)
@@Troy-Echo he inherited a whole bunch of flathead screws from a father (or grandfather) so it's kind of his way of moving their legacy forward, plus the added benefit of erking people lol
You forgot to mention this new amazing dust collections has a price tag of $2400, not including the piping. pretty big upgrade from a shop vac.
Thank you , you save my time looking price up/deal breaker
Yes and there are at least 3 that reside in that cost neighborhood that have their own virtues.
You are right but in my opinion a really solid dust collection system is one of the biggest quality of life improvements you can make for your woodworking. It is the most-used piece of equipment in your shop by a long shot.
Everyone has different budgets of course but if you do have a decent budget and you are trying to decide where to allocate it then I would put this pretty high on the list.
And you missed the sponsor of the video, so this system didn't cost him a penny. :) When something's free, or you're getting paid on top for making a video about it, doesn't matter if it costs $1 or $1000000 I suppose.
That's a horrible price.
Anyone complaining about price obviously hasn't met that 30 year career woodworker carrying around his own oxygen yet. To note, once you get your "affordable" dust collection set up you should look into air cleaning systems. They're easy enough to build and takes care of the real hazard particulate that shop vacs and collectors cant contain
That's one of the weirdest looking dust collectors I've ever seen. Why doesn' t my dust collector have a little springy thing that I can flick? I'm writing a letter to complain.
If it doesn't have a spring to flick, it's not a true dust collector.
@@FishersShop That's what she said...
@@FishersShop The master has spoken. Okay Oneida, give me a call...
That thing suure SUCKS!
Drew, please stop dumping your sawdust in my backyard. Signed, your neighbor.
You need to stop making me burst out in laughter at work
I need to issue a warning ⚠️ haha
I know this is an older video -- but just curious about your take on the volume of the roll out dust bin. You went from approx 50gal to 14. Do you ever wish you had more, say the 30gal version?
Dave, that's actually one of the reasons I like it so much. I had a terrible time muscling that large barrel outside. I'd always be spilling all throughout the basement before I eve got outside! Sure, I have to empty more frequently, but it's super simple to do and there's no mess. I'll definitely take multiple one-handed light empties instead of 1 messy 2-handed heavy operation.
Dude you've got me rollin!! Subbed up!:))
Welcome aboard!
Great to see a shop upgrade and sponsorship! As they say, clean shop, happy wife. Wait, that doesn't sound right...
love the humour :-)
Now you ought to build a hose reel for your hose. That would be a good project video that I would love to watch
I'm not in the market for a dust collector but thoroughly enjoyed this video while doing a little unofficial evaluation/opinion gathering for friend who has issues like you experienced before the upgrade.
Thanks for taking the time to share your upgrade with the world and making it both informative and entertaining with clever/witty/humorous commentary... nicely done!
Best,
Matt
Glad you enjoyed it!
I bought one about three months ago. It replaced a Grizzly 2HP with a home made cyclone that I had for 25 years.
I understand the points about expense. Here's my thoughts. First, it's made in America by American workers. That is important to me. Second, I have a small shop and this has a smaller foot print than my old DC and most competitive DC. How much space it takes is important to me. I'm a single operator, using one machine at a time. I don't need high volume like a multi person shop. I want high velocity- which this unit provides much. I have *much* less dust now from jointer, table saw top, router table top, backed end of planer. I'm very satisfied with it's dust collection capability. Less fine dust floats in the air- stuff doesn't get covered in dust now- and that means I'm breathing less dust. Expensive DC? Yes, but so is medical problems and allergies. Like the video, I connected a 20 foot 2 1/2 hose to the 4" hose which came with it. With standard shop vac accessories, this becomes a super shop vac for the shop and running the hose out to driveway to vacuum the car. I had the Grizzly for 26 years. Being 65, I expect to have this until I no longer do woodworking. Until then, I have a great DC system.
Good god! $2,395? What did you get with that and what parts did you spend extra on? I assume it comes with a filter...but these days you never know.
Definitely looks like a good system though.
Hey Santa...
The only thing extra I got was the "Clean Shop Kit" which included the gray hose and some vacuuming attachments. Everything else came with the unit.
I am very interested in the Supercell. Could you say a few words about the noise levels? Noise is my only concern at this point. Otherwise seems like the perfect DC for a small shop.
Well, it has 3 motors... so it's on the louder side of any other dust collectors I've experienced.
Oneida makes great equipment. I installed one of their bigger systems in an industrial carpenter's shop for work. Including a 3 cubic yard collection bin, with rotating dump for a forklift.
Handled both wood and composites with no problems running 6 hours a day.
I didn't know they made smaller stuff for home use too. Looks good.
I love the humor! (dumped the dust barrel over the fence into my neighbor's yard)
If you watch all his videos, you'll see a lot of items borrowed from his neighbor, and some "after" products returned. :0)
That is a pretty amazing setup! Could you do one more test for me and see how well it works with the Flowbee...thanks!
Ooooo! Now there's an idea. Although the suction is so strong it would probably suck all the hair straight out of my scalp.
@@FishersShop On the plus side, you wouldn't have to worry about cutting your hair again.
I'm glad you have a new "Oh Crap" warning light with your new dust collector.
I hope you ordered extra bulbs for the O CRAP light, you used several o craps during the installation.always look forward to your videosa and thought chickasaures rex was awesome.
Man, a Supercell is something I've wanted basically since they put them out, but man, that price tag. I'll have to stick with my upgraded Grizzly for the moment. Someday I'll be able to upgrade to something more efficient. Also, if you think it's snorting that junk fast through a 2.5" hose? Give it a shot with the 4" line before the reducer!
Best part of the whole video has to be the 'bendy spring thingy,' which reminds me i have to go back and watch that part again, once i have left this comment ha ha ha.
Stay Safe,
Barry (ENG)
Your neighbor must loooove you. haha
It really sucks.
You probably need to get dust right expandable hose. It will make hose management a lot easier and cleaner. Also maybe better to change some bigger tools to 4in port so you are not restricting the 5HP you have.
You got my “like” for the exercise video at the end. Nice video overall.
Thanks Virgil
Now that you've been using it for awhile, do you feel like the 14 gallon capacity is sufficient? I see it doesn't cost much more for the 30 gallon, although it does make the system stand a bit taller which I guess could be a problem in some shops.
14gal is perfect for my shop. Sure, it would be nice to only have to empty it half as much, but if I went with the 30, the bags would be huge cumbersome for me to haul out into my woods. I prefer more frequent but easy trips with a smaller bag.
@@FishersShop Ok thanks for the feedback. I'm going to order one but I was waffling about the size. I do like the fact that the 14 gal unit has wheels for easier emptying. Really enjoy your videos - keep up the great content!
Your poor Nieghbor.
Are you still happy with the SuperCell two years later?
Extremely so, yes. :)
Don't suck up the dog! That thing is a beast of suction power.
Oh yeah... he'd be gone in a second.
@@FishersShop 😆
SuperCell ?, I thought that is a games company that produce Clash of Clans... just kidding... 😁
That system looks perfect. The pressure equalizer for the bag and the whammy bar and the built-in remote.
Wow you use the same training method that I use 10:52
Great job. I bought one and am ready to install. It's nice to know that it can be done with one person due to the bracket. Very good presentation on the video btw! Yeah It's expensive but worth it!
One question. Do you find that you have to leave a blast gate open (in addition to the tool that you are using) due to the increased power of the system?
Thanks! Good question... yes. I purchased a Y-adapter and depending on what tool I'm using, I have to open the blast gate a little to reduce the suction power so I don't put unnecessary strain on the motors of the SuperCell.
Awesome Drew, a great small shop system. Now in 5 years when it makes it to Australia I can take a look at it ;)
I love my supercell! I ended up mounting mine as high as I could and removing the wheels to save the floor space below it.
Not a bad idea
Love the outtakes. Keeping it real. I just purchase one of these and can't wait to get it.
You’ll love it
Just excellent! Great subtle humor along with useful information. Thank you for both, but mainly for the humor, it is so lacking these days. Well done sir!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pretty impressive system, dude! 😃
Congrats!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks!!
I'm not sure I can stay subscribed anymore. Where was the unnecessary walnut? I thought every Fishersshop video had to have unnecessary walnut? I'm only here for the walnut.
That is quit an upgrade!!
Yessir!
This seems like a really spectacular upgrade for me but uh.. I really don't want to redo the absolutely enormous amount of 6" round HVAC ducting I'm using as hard lines in the shop. This would definitely turn them into.. 6" flat HVAC ducting.
"Drew a level line"
*leaves camera out of level to mess with everyone*
How loud is the collector when running?
What? Couldn't hear you... can you say that again?
@@FishersShop good to know!
Looks like a great machine. I really do believe in the value of good dust collection. Glad you were able to go with such a nice set up!
You and me both!
Now we know what the neighbor kept in his shed.
What’s the noise level on that thing? I’ve seen a picture of it with the cover removed and it looks like it’s powered by 3 shop vac motors. Does it scream like 3 shop vacs or did they find a way to tone it down any?
The motors are pretty insulated but it definitely makes its presence known. Slightly louder than my single previous shop vac.
I don't thin it's louder than the 2hp Grizzly it replaced.
Strobe Light flashes indicating it's a good idea to subscribe...
Aww crap, I'm already subscribed.
$2,600 to $3,300 is out of my price range.
That's allot of horsepower for example a horse has 15 horsepower so that thing has a 3rd of the power of a whole horse
That thing SUCKS! 😂😂. That’s pretty awesome!
New dust collection.. and high vis safety sandals.. you're all set DreW!! lol. Nice setup.. something like this is definitely on my wish list, but I will start with the lower end setup first
how loud is it?
Not too bad. Slightly louder than my previous setup though.
Socks are your (and our) friend :^)
Thanks for the vid!! It will make me look at Oneida for sure!
That's pretty impressive.
And the blinking red light reminds me of the air cleaner my wife bought, and how that sucker boosts into turbo mode whenever I unleash a Taco Bell aftermath, dad-sized fart in the room...
Looks to be a good, compact system, ideal for the smaller shop (like mine). I'm surprised you kept the 2 1/2" hose and that you are using it on so many what I would call "high volume" applications. The tools I have with 2 1/2" ports, I step up to 4" immediately. I'm using a SDD with a Delta 1 1/2 hp DC.
The smaller hose means I can have more of it in a coil which ultimately means I can reach around the entire shop with it. The other 4" hose is so rigid, it wouldn't allow for that.
@@FishersShop I attached a 20 foot 2 1/2 hose to the 4" hose that came with it. I connect standard shop vac accessories to the hos. With the long hoses I can sweep all the shop and tools. The supercell becomes a super shop vac!
I just love these, "OH CRAP" videos. Little nuggets of wisdom. 👏✌️👍from 🇬🇧
Your vid are not only informative and well done but hilarious. I want to be neighbors and have beers with you on the weekends lol
I'm telling the guy next door what you did (just kidding)
Great video for someone to use as a reference should they get one of these dust collectors. I've shied away from Oneida's big dust collectors after a bad experience with them a couple of years ago. Their Dust Deputy and a shop-vac are an absolute must have for any small shop. The outtakes are still worth a thumbs up on their own :)
That new supercell is interesting. The video was worth watching just for the last scene!
What kind of electrical socket/power requirement does that unit need? I have a laguna pflux 1.5 and it needed a 220v circuit (or a 30 amp 110v, so 220 was easier), but the laguna is larger than yours so I am curious what yours needed for electric.
220v 30amp
