    honestly, best season ever. they actually had an ongoing story line that didn't reset every episode. it wasn't always the same, fight minions, fight monster, fight big monster that grew with zords, win, repeat.

    Im amazed at how Ashley played such an intricate and important role in bringing Andros into the group as well as him opening up to all of them. She wasn't afraid to push him and with her personality being so open as well as being the antithesis of who he is, it brought them closer together. Without her, I ultimately think it would've taken longer for him to come around and for them to come together as a team.

    I was five years old and in the hospital for a whole summer when In Space was airing. I used to watch it in the hospital lounge or in my room. Even when I was that young, I knew it was something special. It's my favorite Power Rangers series and the reason I'm still a fan twenty years later. No kidding, Astronema might be one of my favorite characters ever, not just in PR. Even with Melody's cheesy delivery early on, I still deeply empathize with her as a survivor of childhood abuse. I have vague memories of the seasons before Turbo and had Green with Evil, White Light, and Ninja Quest on VHS, along with both movies, but these were my Rangers. For what it's worth, Next Mutation was my shit then too, I was so stoked on there being a girl Ninja Turtle. But you're right, it doesn't hold up the way In Space does, most kids' shows won't.

  • @BlueBlazeKing

    Ironically Turbo put the franchise in danger yet the Japanese counterpart Gekisou Sentai Carranger had saved the franchised. Strange isn’t it

    • @BigAmericanGirlFan
      @BigAmericanGirlFan 6 лет назад +49

      Actually Carranger had horribly low sales and ratings and it was In Space's source material show, Megaranger, that led to the late 90s boom of Super Sentai with Gingaman, GoGoFive and Timeranger following it. if you want to know more, check out the first part of Shinta Reviews' review of Megaranger or the introduction of his Ohranger review.

    • @GuillermoSmyser
      @GuillermoSmyser 6 лет назад +24

      I think part of it was that Carranger brought people back and created more loyal fans. It's hysterical so older fans can kind of justify watching it. It's just about self parody but never feels like it's making fun or laughing AT anything about the franchise as a concept. It's just fun and goofy.

    • @BigAmericanGirlFan
      @BigAmericanGirlFan 6 лет назад +13

      That's true. I forgot it was a commercial success with earning more than 159 million in US dollars. But, Carranger was still not Sentai's savior in terms of ratings. It was Megaranger and the following 90s sentais that helped with Sentai's ratings.

I'll admit Pokemon, the cards, the show, the two movies out at that time, and the game boy games, captured my heart at that time. I was obsessed. Without this season some great seasons wouldn't exist. Despite the flaws, In Space tried many things which paid off in some areas. Elbert it's still technically drawing an inspiration from it since it seems like Morph X is a form of leftover energy flowing from the morphing grid due to previous battles against evil. Idk the entire science behind it but looking at Go-Busters, I can see how Saban may construct the story around the first 3 rangers. Same premise as the Sentai, as in family members of the Rangers researching Morph X and then being abducted by our version of Messiah, the rangers as kids being mutated by Morph X as they're evacuated by their buddyroids from the building and there you go, good enough of a backstory to how shit went down

    • @TheDisneyBrain
      @TheDisneyBrain  6 лет назад +8

      That Saban quote just made my day! I had a feeling that they'd try and change things up, but to hear it from the big guy himself who will be in some sort of advising role makes me think he really had learned from these last few years. And I've always been a fan of the three Ranger start point. It gives us plenty of time to know a team before added Rangers come in, which usually gives us really good multi-part episodes.

    I am glad though because most of the cast from season 1 just thought MMPR was gonna be a children's show forever and then there's the non union stuff, which is why they left but through it all, the only one dedicated to being on the show still is Jason David Frank and Turbo, he didn't want anything to do with power rangers, Dino Thunder was technically a favor but it's funny how a favor can turn his life around and he now loves everything about Power Rangers.

    I was turned off to the Turbo Rangers Team because I felt they could have dealt with the change of characters more smoothly. This should have been done in the Turbo Movie.
    The plot line should have been that the past villains (Rita, Zedd, maybe the machine empire) are attacking Eltar. Zordon mentions he has to go and the Zeo Rangers offer to come with him (since he helped them defend Earth, they wanted to return the favor). However, Divatox shows up. So essentially it's up to the Zeo Rangers to find suitable replacements (both powers and people) to defend the Earth.
    The climax involves all 10 Rangers (Zeo and Turbo) fighting off Divatox's fiance or whomever that guy was and finishes with Zordon and the Zeos passing off the torch.
    Making this change would address a few things.
    1. What happened to the Zeo Powers? They were never lost to begin with.
    2. Why did the Zeo Rangers stop being Power Rangers? It seems odd for a superhero to stop being a superhero without a good reason (e.g. evil is defeated, they are injured/too old or sick to continue, etc).
    3. Where were the Zeo Rangers during Countdown to Destruction? While they no longer had powers (apparently), it's hard to believe Tommy and crew would just not fight in the final conflict. Had they gone with the Zeo Rangers go with Zordon to Eltar, that would explain it away easily.

      Mike Robbins there were posts by Bosch saying there is lost footage of the Turbo movie where Divatox had defeated Tanya and Adam and thus caused a Zeo energy overload stronger than the overload of the ThunderZords overload and creating the Turbo powers a la MMPR Season 2 with resiginal energy collected from Lerigot as he was recovering. Had this been added, it would definitely connected Lerigot more to Dampa who gave the CarRangers their powers

It was mostly "Wow this is so cool" followed by him telling me about the upcoming Turbo movie and how they were in New Zealand so the autographs weren't gonna happen but how nice it was for me to write to him personally, and him tollerating a fanboy. I told him I collected the toys and he asked me if there was anything I was missing. I told him The Dragon Dagger and Pyramidas. He said "Don't worry about that anymore."
      A few weeks later, the doorbell rang and a prop of the freakin DragonDagger and the Pyramidas toy were on my doorstep along with the autographed poster (by Haim Saban cause the Rangers weren't around then). It read "To Derik, from Ranger to another best of luck, Haim Saban, MMPR Creator"

    My problem with Turbo was actually the same problem I had with MMPR season 2. Simply you don’t change half or most of not all the cast. To me Turbo basically through away almost everything the first 4 seasons set up. Johnny Young Beash and Nakea were fired from the show. And in Johnny’s case he wasn’t doing well with work after power rangers till he found a career in voice over. But that was more JDF’s fault. So I don’t hate the second Turbo team or the writers, I just hate that a change happened at all. I like the second team when they were the space rangers but as the Turbo rangers every time I’m wondering what would have happened if the original cast stayed. As for Space it’s a great season with great writing and great acting.
    Sorry that this turned into a Passing the Torch rant it’s just it I’ve always hated that. The Turbo movie was my introduction to power rangers and when I saw the cast change like that for the first time I was really angry. But In Space really fixed nearly everything that Turbo created with a really good storyline like Krone and Andros being siblings. Cassie showing that not all of the life out there are evil. TJ coming with unique ideas like a complete blue ranger team to fool psycho blue. Carlos proving to himself to be a ranger. Bulk and Skulls amazing character growth ending throughout the franchise. Proving that they weren’t the same bully’s in season 1. Working with Professor Phenoms and willing to pretend to be rangers in order to give the space rangers some time. I just wonder where was this level of storytelling in Turbo

      What pissed me off was Passing the Torch Parts 1 & 2.
      Season 5 should have been with the current team going to the next level embracing the harsh world of adulthood as a metaphor for growing threats and more treacherous adversaries, the stakes should have been higher, more complex stories would have also been a nice touch up for a darker theme and we the audience should have been allowed to continue to grow further along with the characters and the characters developed to their fullest. Instead we got Cousin Oliver Syndrome in the form of a 12 year old driving around in a Supercar, we had the Rangers tossing their Power Keys over to a band of untested newbies, the wise leader and quirky but intelligent robot buddy replaced with a questioning idiot pretending to be deep and her jive talking Italian accented faux street robot, we had an Intergalactic Empire with armies of deadly soldiers replaced with a villain who's Mask doesn't fit right, in a submarine along with her incompetent nephew and cohorts and her tendency to whine every five minutes because she doesn't have to common sense to set her damn explosives for 30 seconds instead of an hour, we have a pair of chimps standing in for the comic relief duo because the writers don't know what to do with their characters and the cherry on the diarrhea shake, a police Lieutenant running the Juice Bar.

      I have more of an issue with the execution then the story itself. I liked the idea of Rangers aging out and them transitioning out with a backstory. They never connected it to them either leaving the team or balancing their 2 lives. It could bring up the question should Rangers be Rangers forever? It humanized Zordon in that he was willing to let them go. Plus I liked the female mentor 3specially if they did make her Divatox's sister. It on 1 hand, could've shown that Zordon trains mentors like he does Gosei in megaforce. Like Disney said in his megaforce review, both Goshei and Dmitria should've been tasked with specific threats. Divatox's backstory is pretty good. The Alpha knockoff should've been a generic robot who learn Earth pop culture to try to communicate with the Rangers. The right 1 liners and different voices would've save the character. Justin should've been a reluctant Ranger who acted like a kid instead of giving adults dating advice. When the first team finally accepted him, they leave and he has to start over. The new team was good except for the fact that they fall in the trap of always ignoring how becoming a Ranger effects their regular lives.

    • @renegadeguardian
      @renegadeguardian 6 лет назад +1

      He literally just stole Linkara's rant, almost verbatim. But at least Linkara had the good sense to admit that the cast change was a good thing in the long run. Because it was. Regardless of how you feel about Passing The Torch (I personally think the plot should have been done in the movie), the show vastly improved after the two parter. People seem to forget that the episodes of the "first half" were all the same damn plot over and over again. Divatox just continually reused the same stupid scheme of planting explosives and then daring the Rangers to find and disarm them before they could go off. After the cast change? We got the Phantom Ranger arc, the General Havoc arc, and - oh yeah, Chase into Motherfucking-SPACE, easily the best damn finale in the whole franchise if you don't count Countdown to Destruction.
      Face it, people, the old Rangers were dragging the show down by that point and they NEEDED to go. Zordon said it himself. They needed to be let go so they could move on with their lives because, as much we like to joke about Zordon being an asshole, he legitimately DID care about the people he recruited for his war and more than once admitted that he never intended to use them as extensively as he had.

    In Space, wrapped up everything mostly from the MMPR Zordon era. I didn’t catch it at the time, as I stopped watching after Zeo. By then I was focused on other things like girls and Star Trek. But I was always aware that it continued threads left by MMPR, Zeo; Turbo. I remember channel surfing back then and landing on Fox kids and seeing Zedd and Rita on In Space wondering what the hell was going on because I didn’t recognize anyone else. It wasn’t until I got the massive two Shout Factory boxsets on DVD (MMPR, Zeo, Turbo, In Space, and Lost Galaxy) that I finally finished the whole story. It was different but did a great job wrapping up. For someone like me who is big on continuity, it felt different to not see veteran rangers from the MMPR era and in my mind, “they weren’t there so Im not there” but the story was still there and it really is good. It further expanded the universe and brought it all to an end. For those of us teens and kids back then who were there from the beginning of MMPR in 93, it felt like our age of innocence was coming to an end. When Star Trek Deep Space Nine ended the same year (1998) and Voyager 2 years later, I truly felt like it all had come to an end. Now Im an adult still taking trips back in time to revisit the good ol days. I miss them.

There is a reason why the older PR zords look so cool, they are models and always had great appearances

    Personally, in my personal opinion, if they were going to do a teamup episode of two, they should have done it with the Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog. With the concepts of technology and space travel, there could have been a plotline involving a wormhole being made that acted as a time portal. Thus, sending the megaship back through time to Queen Maeve's monsters for a time. Conversely, the knights for one episode could have accidentally been pulled into the then present for another episode.
    It would have made for a better storyline and increase the popularity of Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog.
