Hey, ex Beta Archive member here. I can't really bring myself to watch the video in full because it brings up a lot of bad memories, but from watching the part where you go over the demise of the channel, you were pretty spot on. The crunch culture and creator being left unchecked, leading them to get away with everything scot-free are something most people completely skim over. The crunch we had to endure was rough. It was something I can actually say I was a bit responsible for. Since I was led on to encourage people to work harder on it because we were "making something great". The creator also made things worse, constantly bashing every one of us when assets weren't the most accurate things in the world. The whole project was a ticking time bomb, because of a situation where the person who stepped up as the lead writer acted unspeakably to me and a few others. We were all in a sort of depression since the middle of October, which led to quite a few of us, myself included, to act very emotionally charged, lacking any real logic or common sense. This led to the negative attributes of the project like the crunch and drama to be exponentially worsened. By December it reached a boiling point, with many leaving. The channel was a bloated corpse by early January, due to the leak causing almost everyone to leave. In my opinion, the biggest caveat of the project dying the way it did wasn't the lack of a conclusion to the story, but how friendships were destroyed. People who were super close with each other began to straight up despise one another. Some of us still hurt to this day over what happened. If there's anything to learn from this, it's that you should always look inward and ask yourself if what you're doing is the right thing. And when doing so, try to remove your emotions from the equation. Because most of us thought we were doing the right thing, but ultimately made things worse because our emotions got in the way of our judgement. Obviously, pay attention to what you're feeling, but don't let it take control of you.
Yeah I find when doing group projects it's incredibly difficult to do them with friends because you kind of let it get in the way. Especially if you're a group with some trouble communicating, it can go downhill pretty fast. That's not to say that working with friends is impossible but you really need a good team leader for that and it sounds like you guys had a pretty shitty one. I'm sorry you went through that.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention how this series came out right after that big Nintendo leak. With people finding unused enemies and Luigi in Mario 64 it made the ARG more believable.
@Benial Yeah, I didn't even know it was an ARG until now. I was recommended some of their videos at the time, and thought it was someone trying to capitalize on people searching for the leak. Unfortunate timing.
This ARG was very special to me since Mario 64 is one of my all time favorite games! Sadly this damn drama has happened. Hope similar stuff will be created one day 💪
Yeah it sucks. To succeed is basically luck now since drama has a 50/50 chance to take it down, hence why I'm scared to start becoming a proper youtuber
Hi goose boose! So I was (going to be) a voice actor for this ARG! They needed someone who sounded young, I was very close with some of the team. I never did any writing or management but I can let you in on some of the lost plot. The lines they had me record were WILD. Basically they were leaning in to the “every copy is personalized. It goes like this: The character who runs the channel has a nephew who is extremely ill with cancer. They got this nephew to play test this game. The recording is an interview with a Mario game dev (I honestly can’t remember if the game dev was the one who ran the channel or not) and the nephew. He wanted to know what he thought of the game, and how fun was the game ect. The kid keeps bringing up that it was ok, but it was cool how it felt very personalized. By the end of the interview the kid leaves. And the employee straight up says to kill the kid. I believe the line was “we have some plugs to pull. I know that I have no way of proving this, because the audio was never used. But it was so fun to see this story unfold from the inside. I’m glad you can appreciate the work that so many people put into this project, and it’s a shame it had to end. Thank you! ❤️
Thank you for sharing this here! Damn, that truly goes back to the whole "Nintendo hitmen" thing that emerged at the beginning of the Beta/1995/07/29 creepypasta, lmao I remember one of the main things at the start of the whole beta build thing was that Nintendo would hunt you down if you talked about SM64's Personalization. Hence the slogan "Do not research the 1995/07/29 Build". I wouldn't be surprised how it would not work in the slightest in the context of this ARG though, especially considering the other ideas of the plot that other folks who worked on the project talked about in this comments section. It would become quite the mess. Thanks again for sharing this, it's interesting to hear stuff from people who were involved in the project directly.
Almost everything is scarier than modern horror movies. Most (key-word is MOST; I am not saying all) horror flicks nowadays just rely on jumpscares or satanic imagery, which is really a poor man's excuse for true horror. Not to sound like an elitist, but yeah, there are very few good horror films of the modern era. Same with comedies.
@Zombie You are right about that. I guess I also should've clarified that when I said "most", I'm talking about "most of the horror movies that hit the mainstream". There's plenty of good shit underground that just goes unnoticed. Same with the music industry. That's why services like TubiTV and Shudder are amazing.
The “lost Nintendo media” sorta phase the internet had a for a good while is something I miss a lot, it was so nostalgic and surreal for so many people that I can’t help but smile just thinking about it. Such a shame this particular facet of the hype got cancelled but glad the team moved on to healthier states of mind.
Really glad I'm finally seeing people talk about this channel, I was following it from around the beginning and it was really disappointing to just kinda see it disappear and see pretty much nobody talk about it like it just never existed
@@nyctomatic8329 Honestly I can understand that, working on something under conditions like the ones that have been said with like crunch and stuff like described in emneisium's comment sounds like absolute hell and I completely understand wanting to move on. I just kinda thought the whole channel made really good stuff and never really seeing people talk about it even when it was still going just kinda felt sad.
Same I remember seeing so many Wario apparition videos/ personalized stuff and I just thought it was so interesting. I loved seeing those scary tapes of the beta on the archive channels. It really is a shame most of it just kind of stopped after 2020.
Beta Archive was... pretty terrible behind the scenes. I knew several folks that worked on it. Some of them let me know about what was happening in the background and... well, the main story writer was a pretty huge a-hole. Let me get the exact quotes I was given about it: them (from Discord): "it got cancelled once [name I'm censoring] uploaded the summer 95 build without approving it with LITERALLY ANYONE. they barely showed off the custom level we had spent a fuckton of time on and decided to focus on one that the creator told us to remove." me: "wanna spoil the rest of what the story was supposed to be for me? Or were you kept in the dark?" Them: "it was written by the pedo and basically meg and eric were supposed to go on this big road trip and get hunted down by dan, who's basically the bad guy of the story." me: "Dan's the guy that was a dick for no reason, right? The one that was like 'haha yeah the drowning animation was totally based off of a real person drowning!'" them: "yes. he was intentionally written that way too. see the pedo and writer intentionally bragged about being able to write like the creator of petscop. if thats any indication of their level of fucking sucking. yes and he also killed a child with cancer in the story." Soooo, yeah. We weren't missing a whole lot in terms of the story. It was going to be god-awful, and the people in charge of the series were huge assholes. Unfortunate that the real meat of the series, the accurate recreations, were cut off by such terrible people in charge of the whole thing.
Yeah. After all, you don't scream much when you're drowning in real life, things weigh down on you and once you inhale water you're basically gone. In a flash.
The Mario 64 Personalization Era was a really fun time on the internet for me since I was really into Mario 64 rumors when I was younger (Admittedly, most of the Personalization videos were much more well-made than said rumors), really unfortunate that the Director of the Beta Archive wasn't the best and the team slowly fell apart At least the content that did end up getting finished was enjoyable, there were loads of talented people behind the channel and it's sad hearing they weren't treated very well; I'm glad that you're talking about this channel, because all discussion about it just... stopped, after the last video
yeah, i loved all the themed music that was made around that time, even though I knew that after a time it would just be treated like a crappy creepypasta like Jeff the Killer or some such
I remember when that ARG was still active, but it's honestly disappointing that it was just cut short. Honestly it was cool to see the rise of the "Every copy of Mario 64 is personalized" thing, it was something...interesting to see and witnessed
@@HawtDawg There’s just something undescribe about what makes it so interesting, and intriguing, but it just is, maybe it’s because Mario 64, creeped me out a little bit when i was younger nothing like the folks who grew up with it, but things still unnerved me, mainly the Eel, and big boos haunt though i had the DS version mainly.
I love it when /x/ creates a ground work for creepypasta/args Like SCP or the backrooms and sm64 is personalized They basically create a interesting concept but leave it for other people to either add stuff to it or make their spin on the concept
As bummed as I am that this ARG was cancelled, I think the parody channel is genuinely hilarious. It's the best thing that came from of this, to me anyways. I hope it's cathartic for the disgruntled employees too.
@@mccperin E'yup! Thanks for answering before I could! I suggest you two above go check it out, it's funny stuff. Almost funny enough to stave off the sadness from the wasted potential of the actual ARG. :(
i think one of my favourite videos from that channel was the render showcase where they used americ anfootball in the SM64 soundfont as the background music, as well as the one with Mario beating the shit out of Meg
I lost track of this ARG months ago. It really broke my heart that we will never have an ending. Then again, if it doesn't finish like the Mario Party DS Anti-Piracy, I'm happy.
I get the feeling the Mario Party one was never intended to be a whole story, but the sudden popularity it got compelled the creator to move forward with stuff
Hello! I was a video editor/artist for this channel. (I was responsible for Developer Animation Showcase, visuals of N64 System BIOS, and most of the Cleaning Tape video) Just to clear things up, we never viewed this as an ARG, since it never had real life elements. It was planned more to be like a webseries, with Petscop as a huge inspiration to the videos. As for deadlines we had to face, they were horrible. For example, the Employee Tape video was heavily crunched. I was given maybe a day or two to fit the Halloween deadline for that video. Not to mention, The Summer 1995 video was stressing much of the other staff as well (was in developement hell iirc_. The reason as to why MarioNova's footage in Summer 95 was used, it was the choice of the leader. Even the guy who did a VHS conversion for us pointed out Nova's footage, but was told to keep it in by the leader. As for Alpha Archive, that had nothing to do with the original creator, though some of the original staff was involved though (including me.) Nobody on the main staff except for the leader and a writer we fired were considered bad, though. Please don't harass them, as they were the ones facing crunch and the awful deadlines.
You guys did what you could, a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, and when the weakest link is the first, that’s a problem waiting to happen. I hope you guys are able to create your own content that you enjoy making, at your own pace of course. Art is not something that should be forced to happen. It takes time.
Ayy i was looking for a comment from you man. i had no idea you were dealing with crunch and bad management, I really hope you can use what you've learned from this to make something you wanna make
Oh yeah, heard there was a falling out with the people working on it not getting paid enough and being worked too hard, which lead to them leaking out a lot of bts footage, images, and even some raw files of some models I believe, this causing the team leaders pulling the plug on the project for good.
We were never paid anything. The problem was the unauthorized footage used in Summer 95, this combined with all the past anger towards the channel is what caused all the footage to be leaked
PLEASE GO FULL NIGHTMIND ON THIS!! Even if it isn’t still going, it’s a good ARG and it could teach us baby arg makers how to properly collab! AND WE RLLY NEED THAT MAN
When I saw the thumbnail I knew what you was talking about. It’s a big fucking shame it never finished because of it. This shit got me scared because I’m a fan of a few other ARGs and makes me fear that those will end like this one too.
I love when you post videos like this! In topics ive never heard of or something you like! Please continue taking as much time as you lie to create videos you have a passion for.
Ngl We need more video game args like this. Hiding itself as an archive rather then just showing us haunted gameplay like Ben Drowned or Petscop. Don't get me wrong I loved Ben Drowned and Petscop but over time they kinda started to get boring
God, I was so invested into that channel. It was one of the only channels (the other one being Greenio) that had made such a great ARG focused on the Mario 64 iceberg.
god, i reeeaaally want to make an arg. they seem like so much fun. also my heart goes out to anyone who got majorly scarred by the production of this, you did well, despite the problems.
I love scary things to do with like 80s and 90s theme. The old vhs type vibe to them gives it a scaryer vibe to everything. Love the content btw keep it up
nice background music majula from ds2 is really fitting for the kind of mystery of ARGs and it’s also just nice to hear in general the nostalgic feel of the music does fit mario 64 as well as a lot of people grew up on it and still have it as there favourite game
Glad to have found another Majula appreciator! Dark souls in general is so much more than just a "very hard game" as many people see it, it's an entire world!
It’s funny to me how so many people were *convinced* that this channel was a real archive (as in everything in the videos were made by Nintendo and is official etc) and then they spilled the tea that it wasn’t. It was funny seeing all the debate within the comments when this channel was flourishing.
This was a awesome series that captured that awesome "off" feeling so well, but it was tragic how mismanaged and toxic it was behind the scenes, and it really sucks that we'll never see the rest of it or know how it ends. I'm not asking for the team to get back together, that was hell for them and was destructive all-around, but I'd love another project that does something like this, perhaps with a different game!
Man I’m so sick of hearing the same story. Something awesome appears on the internet and some inside drama happens and the whole thing is cancelled. I swear the internet is so toxic. People just can’t get along nowadays.
i remember seeing the videos and being pretty curious about it, i had the feeling it was an ARG but then it stopped getting recommended and i forgot about it, sad to see it ended up going like this
When the Majula theme came in at the start of the video it was so loud that i thought i had accidentally left ds2 open. Turns out i did, closed it, and then the Majula theme was part of the video. Weird rollercoaster that was.
I surprised you didn't talk about how when in said "Super Mario" in English during the drowning animation showcase, it said "死" which means "Death" in Japanese.
ARGs are one of those things that needs both careful planning and knowledge of those your working with. Some ARGs are eventually doomed to fall while others aren't, the way an ARG falls can happen from either a lack of planning, internal scuffles or rushed development. It takes time to make various assets, whether it's making "unseen" renders/"unused" graphics for a game, custom models/sprites for a "unused" character for a game, props and objects for a irl ARG, if something doesn't exist for the ARG and needs to be made then it'll take time for said thing to be made. The one thing you should never do whilst making something with others is rush it, if it's rushed in any capacity then folks will noticed. Rushing production can and will cause many problems in the near future, if someone wanted to hire extra hands to help out and they heard how much crunching someone had to do to make ends meet then all hell would break loose because of what was heard. I've never detected my time to any projects that would require lots of dedication and time, I can't really do much without having the sudden urge to do something else. But I can tell when lots of effort gets put into something and it saddens me when I hear it gets canceled do to something stupid happening, whether it's from outside forces or internal struggles. Some ARGs just don't deserve the fate they received, the time, effort and possibly money used to make something just suddenly gets wasted and everything just... crumbles into nothingness. I never know what to say when it comes to things I have very little knowledge on, all I can do is give the best support possible and hope everyone that were involved in a particular ARG can live peacefully without any scumbags interrupting their personal lives.
"I will tell you about this arg" *11 minutes later near the end of the video and they havent given any real explanations* "Actually i wont tell you anything cuz theres no point to it after the drama lol bye"
I used to be moderately close friends with what I believe to be the one who was the project lead of this. A damn shame what happened, and how they treated the people who worked on this project. Might ask them how the story was supposed to go sometime in the future.
I'm new to this channel (I've only been watching it for about two weeks or so), and I have to say how much I love the subjects, the narration (Goose, you're a great and relaxing narrator), and especially the ending where it says "You're Gonna Be Okay". Working hard at studying for my nursing license has been really stressful, and I find that seeing a hopeful message like that gives me more hope, comfort, and confidence than you can imagine. So thank you! It's unfortunate when ARGs that are unique and well-made come to an end like this. So much work goes into these, and when an ARG is good, it's usually REALLY good. Hopefully the people who worked on this are in better places with their lives now and will aspire to create even more wonderful creative works. Much love to all of you in the comments! I really love this community! :)
I really enjoyed this ARG... sadly it’s never gonna be finished. Maybe one day, a crew will team up once again and shine the light of creepy upon us once again.
Along with the Godzilla Monster of Monsters NES Creepypasta as well as the lore behind it finding each journal entry and the fact that so few people have actually experienced the hell behind it, this is my second favorite edition of creepy things behind game development and the consequences behind trying to play as virtual god. At some point you have to take a marathon back from a project and for this ARG not being a fully-developed thing is most likely a good reason to stop and leave the project. I'm glad people on the dev team have left after non-consensual breaching of negotiations and contracts: you're valid and for what you've gone through, I'm glad you're still here. Thank you for bringing us the tip of what C-PTSD you probably have because of this game.
Iv always loved beta content and I remember looking for Mario 64 beta leaks after the giga leak, at the time I didn't question this channel at all, everything on it was so proffseinaly done and accurate looking to the beta content we did know, for me it was a slow burn to realize it was fake but that just made the whole channel even more impressive to me, sucks to hear how much mistreatment was behind that qaulity.
typically with early games like between 1995 to 2006 is when game devs used a real life human reference to do animations or textures fore gore or corpses, even injuries. as an example the burnt corpse from half life 2 that can be seen in the game even to this day was referenced from a guy in a morgue who had his face torched by the cartel or mafia. his face was pictured then put in a book that basically teaches about the human body, the devs of half life took the picture and textured it into the game.
I want to say that i like how you used majula's theme as unsettling because in game it's more calming as a place where you are save wrom all enemies, but in the video its creepy as the footage from arg is shown like the music in the mario videos it's unsettling
Yeah, it's a real tragedy this ARG was canceled. I remember watching the channel with my brother when it was uploading content (and at the time 3D All-Stars was about to release so it kinda hyped things up too) and I was so interested into where this ARG was heading. I was pretty set on a theory that someone had drowned during development and Meg and Eric were going to communicate to the ghost or be in turmoil over the loss, but I still kept myself wondering about things. I guess we'll never know now...
Yeah the gist of the story was leaked. CEO of development Dan Newman drowned his cousin Casey for an animation, and Eric knew about it/saw it (unclear), which is why he's afraid of water through what we saw of the series. Dan is hunting Meg and Eric, they go into hiding, Then they destroy the AI.
Im glad someone is talking about this channel. I stumbled across it while i was eating dinner at a local restaurant and this channel took up most of my time there because i was admittedly intrigued on the idea.
It's a shame things went how they did with this ARG. It was a breath of fresh air from the usual "omg spooky jumpscare" kinda videos in the VHS horror genre, and referencing and integrating things from the SM64 Iceberg in fairly believable ways was a nice touch.
It's sad that one of my favorite ARGs just died due to drama, creator being a massive dick to his team, broken relationships, stupid deadlines and lots of people who suffered working with a terrible leader. I hope the people who worked on this project have a better life and will hopefully do okay in the future and finally, thank you guys for this amazing and immersive project though, honestly. Also for anyone who wants to work on a project with other people, please show kindness to each other (cause god this world needs more of it from all the dislike, hate, disappointment or anger nowadays).
I saw the thumbnail and immediately knew what you were talking about. It genuinely makes me sad thinking about how it ended so abruptly. Probably one of the greatest and most convincing ARGs I've ever seen.
As someone who saw the entire scene grown from the start it's just so heartbreaking to see how it ended Nothing horror-related will feel this again to just make something just because you can, I wanna feel that high again
Fun Fact: The Bowser-looking guy at 8:00 is named "Cowser" as in like Bowser mixed with a cow. The model can be found in Render96's repository and a member of the Render96 community, VisualPrism was part of this ARG making the models seen in Render Showcase/Developer Animation Showcase.
As someone who watched a few videos before they stopped uploading and is finding out about this now, it really saddens me. Yeah, I never knew it was an ARG, but it was an interesting experience to watch those videos, as well as the video being more realistic and unique compared to the horrific(yet arguably cringy) theme that was the norm. It broke the mold, but it is sadly gone now. I just hope this never happens to any ARG going foward, as to be blunt...... *....the infighting and drama was dumb if you think about it lol*
For anyone wondering, the Japanese before the animation real is just describing what it is- for example スピン (spin) or 走る (to run) Edit: and the Japanese before the drowning animation just says 死 (death)
I was devastated when this ARG was cancelled. It was really depressing hearing about all the shit that happened. I hope stuff like this becomes less and less common over time.
I remember watching greenio and another sm64 arg when I discovered beta archive It's a shame that the latter went the way it did because it was really unique and didn't focus too much on the iceberg personalized thing and did its own stuff
The Mario 64 Beta Archive was at its best when it didn't really try to be creepy and just... was. When the error screens and the like popped up? Totally kicked me out of the immersion. It's like slapping Halloween decorations into a hallway and calling it a haunted house. But whenever they would subtly sneak creepy things into the story, like the water detail or the brainwave syncing stuff, that's where things got really interesting! It capitalized well on the environment it was released in and they really went to great lengths to make the footage and renders believable. I really wish that was the type of content the focused on more. I wanted the story to dig deeper into all the things that went wrong during development, but in the end, it was all just kinda thrown around, I guess with no real direction in mind.
I really hope that someone picks this project up again, the renders are gorgeous and I can tell a lot of work was put into every detail, even the music is incredibly well done. It's getting to the point where ARG's are far surpassing scary movies or shows. Things like Local 58, Gemini Home Entertainment, The Monument Mythos, are some of the coolest content I've seen in over a decade, and scarier than any TV show or movie. I absolutely love it, and I don't want Hollywood to find it and ruin it. Local 58 especially, is one of the most impressive art projects I've ever seen. It made me sick to my stomach and scared. It evoked a big response from me. If that were to really play in America, especially during the height of the cold war, the amount of people that would follow the instructions is a horrifying thought. It takes a powerful and creative mind to make things like this, and it's really cool to see the attention to detail some people put into their work, a true labor of love that can be felt and noticed. The feeling ARG's give me is like I'm seeing inside the thoughts, understanding the reasons, the method behind the madness, and choices of a mind you can't help but wonder "How did you think of this?" Also Umami's series is amazing.
I just wanted to take a second and thank you for that end message “ you’re going to be OK” I needed that right when I saw it, I needed it. Thank you. ❤
a big reason why the parody account was made is because the team leader wasn't paying his team so then in retaliation they began to leak stuff and bts content(behind the scenes), which led to them pulling the plug.
God, thank you for pointing out the renders, that was the ONE thing missing from the catastrophe crow arg to make it feel like it was a real game, the n64 era renders
I've been subbed to the "archive" channel for about eight and a half months. I ABSOLUTELY love video game ARGs and it's pretty sad that it had to cut short in just a few months in. I hope i can find more like this in the future 😌
YES IM SO GLAD TO SEE SOMEONE TALKING ABOUT THIS CHANNEL, one of their videos is absolutely terrifying to me, it makes me tear up thinking about it from how creepy it is
I was about to say the song at the start of this video was from the elder scrolls when I recognized it was the majula theme from ds2. Majula is one of the few nice things about that game.
i've gone into the arg rabbit hole and i can't stop watching videos about shit and that combined with my recent watching of analogue horror really makes me wanna try to make some sort of scary analogue horror arg thing in some type of game but I honestly don't think I have the skills to do that at all lol

Especially if you're a group with some trouble communicating, it can go downhill pretty fast. That's not to say that working with friends is impossible but you really need a good team leader for that and it sounds like you guys had a pretty shitty one. I'm sorry you went through that.

The character who runs the channel has a nephew who is extremely ill with cancer.
Damn, that truly goes back to the whole "Nintendo hitmen" thing that emerged at the beginning of the Beta/1995/07/29 creepypasta, lmao
I remember one of the main things at the start of the whole beta build thing was that Nintendo would hunt you down if you talked about SM64's Personalization.
That’s hella dark bro.
Crazy how some Args are actually scarier than horror movies nowadays

@@electriczap9615 I dont play too many, but I know a lot of them are great.
Really glad I'm finally seeing people talk about this channel, I was following it from around the beginning and it was really disappointing to just kinda see it disappear and see pretty much nobody talk about it like it just never existed
i'm glad it's been forgotten
Yea, wish it came to fruition :/
Also hello again
Beta Archive was... pretty terrible behind the scenes. I knew several folks that worked on it. Some of them let me know about what was happening in the background and... well, the main story writer was a pretty huge a-hole. Let me get the exact quotes I was given about it:
them (from Discord): "it got cancelled once [name I'm censoring] uploaded the summer 95 build without approving it with LITERALLY ANYONE. they barely showed off the custom level we had spent a fuckton of time on and decided to focus on one that the creator told us to remove."
me: "wanna spoil the rest of what the story was supposed to be for me? Or were you kept in the dark?"
Them: "it was written by the pedo and basically meg and eric were supposed to go on this big road trip and get hunted down by dan, who's basically the bad guy of the story."
me: "Dan's the guy that was a dick for no reason, right? The one that was like 'haha yeah the drowning animation was totally based off of a real person drowning!'"
them: "yes. he was intentionally written that way too. see the pedo and writer intentionally bragged about being able to write like the creator of petscop. if thats any indication of their level of fucking sucking. yes and he also killed a child with cancer in the story."
Soooo, yeah. We weren't missing a whole lot in terms of the story. It was going to be god-awful, and the people in charge of the series were huge assholes. Unfortunate that the real meat of the series, the accurate recreations, were cut off by such terrible people in charge of the whole thing.
That's really cool, and super sad. Do you mind if I pin this?

The Mario 64 Personalization Era was a really fun time on the internet for me since I was really into Mario 64 rumors when I was younger (Admittedly, most of the Personalization videos were much more well-made than said rumors), really unfortunate that the Director of the Beta Archive wasn't the best and the team slowly fell apart
At least the content that did end up getting finished was enjoyable, there were loads of talented people behind the channel and it's sad hearing they weren't treated very well; I'm glad that you're talking about this channel, because all discussion about it just... stopped, after the last video

I lost track of this ARG months ago. It really broke my heart that we will never have an ending.
Then again, if it doesn't finish like the Mario Party DS Anti-Piracy, I'm happy.
what do you mean? mario party ap had a decent ending, i mean it sucks how it strayed from the main videos path but it was alright
@@adversariespurified I mean the video was fine and had a lot of effort behind. It just wasn't my cup of tea.
anti-piracy was more of a test than a enjoyable experience
Well, Mario Party Anti-Piracy wasn't an ARG.
There was never something to solve. Merely a series of eerie videos.
I get the feeling the Mario Party one was never intended to be a whole story, but the sudden popularity it got compelled the creator to move forward with stuff
Aw shit, I didn't realise this one got cut short. This was one of the few I got into while it was still going.
Hello! I was a video editor/artist for this channel. (I was responsible for Developer Animation Showcase, visuals of N64 System BIOS, and most of the Cleaning Tape video)
Just to clear things up, we never viewed this as an ARG, since it never had real life elements.
As for Alpha Archive, that had nothing to do with the original creator, though some of the original staff was involved though (including me.)
Nobody on the main staff except for the leader and a writer we fired were considered bad, though. Please don't harass them, as they were the ones facing crunch and the awful deadlines.
I want to say that you did an excellent job on the series. It's a damn shame that development crunch was such an issue for it.
Alpha archive was a mistake
You guys did what you could, a chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link, and when the weakest link is the first, that’s a problem waiting to happen. I hope you guys are able to create your own content that you enjoy making, at your own pace of course. Art is not something that should be forced to happen. It takes time.

@@dr_popcorn You mean it was bad they were on crunch, right?
Oh yeah, heard there was a falling out with the people working on it not getting paid enough and being worked too hard, which lead to them leaking out a lot of bts footage, images, and even some raw files of some models I believe, this causing the team leaders pulling the plug on the project for good.

As long as it stays “all Nintendo”

but then it stopped getting recommended and i forgot about it, sad to see it ended up going like this
When the Majula theme came in at the start of the video it was so loud that i thought i had accidentally left ds2 open. Turns out i did, closed it, and then the Majula theme was part of the video. Weird rollercoaster that was.
Definitely a journey lol
A good pirate always finishes their "aarg!", what are you talking about?
"I will tell you about this arg"
*11 minutes later near the end of the video and they havent given any real explanations*
"Actually i wont tell you anything cuz theres no point to it after the drama lol bye"
They truly were passionate about what they were doing, to someone that loves the game to death and lived it as a kid, this is just pure art.
I used to be moderately close friends with what I believe to be the one who was the project lead of this. A damn shame what happened, and how they treated the people who worked on this project. Might ask them how the story was supposed to go sometime in the future.
Oooh, update us please!

6:33 by the way, that says die in chinese, which im assuming is referring to mario drowning
7:12 Yeah, because no movies have ever had a character drowning in it to use as reference.
typically with early games like between 1995 to 2006 is when game devs used a real life human reference to do animations or textures fore gore or corpses, even injuries.
as an example the burnt corpse from half life 2 that can be seen in the game even to this day was referenced from a guy in a morgue who had his face torched by the cartel or mafia. his face was pictured then put in a book that basically teaches about the human body, the devs of half life took the picture and textured it into the game.
I love the majula theme playing in the background.. hollows rise up
8:34 as soon as he Saud "Eric just sends" my tablet just went off (it has a virus) and it made everything more spooky...
Why does it have a virus
Dude... Mario's drowning animation looks almost exactly like that in the real Mario 64, it's so creepy

This is so sad, and it's even sadder now that i know it was an ARG and not just a creepypasta
Personally I like my arg's with memes
As someone who saw the entire scene grown from the start it's just so heartbreaking to see how it ended

I was devastated when this ARG was cancelled. It was really depressing hearing about all the shit that happened. I hope stuff like this becomes less and less common over time.
I remember watching greenio and another sm64 arg when I discovered beta archive
It's a shame that the latter went the way it did because it was really unique and didn't focus too much on the iceberg personalized thing and did its own stuff
Ayyyy, I was just scrolling through your videos for one to watch. Thanks goose!
Love the video! The use of Dark Souls II's Majula theme does a great job of feeling 'creepy' but also comforting throughout the video :)
Mario being more afraid of water than Sonic is hilarious.
Goose loving a new ARG is great to see
I really hope that someone picks this project up again, the renders are gorgeous and I can tell a lot of work was put into every detail, even the music is incredibly well done.
The feeling ARG's give me is like I'm seeing inside the thoughts, understanding the reasons, the method behind the madness, and choices of a mind you can't help but wonder "How did you think of this?"
Also Umami's series is amazing.
Whoever did the chords in the Mario theme in the developer animation showcase has no idea what key they needed to be in lol
Majulas music in the background, nice touch
The fake beta songs do be slapping though
God, thank you for pointing out the renders, that was the ONE thing missing from the catastrophe crow arg to make it feel like it was a real game, the n64 era renders
