  • Location: rdr2map.com?notes=HNy2hG9myJf Thanks so much to all the for the requests & feedback on the RDR1 videos. Support by sharing #AmbientRedDead or enjoy yourself some butthole.coffee while watching :)
How To: In Red Dead Redemption 2, if you switch to First Person and then hold down L2, then the "Aim Weapon" Context Menu will pop up in the bottom right corner. Importantly, with L2 being held down, Arthur will not crouch/pop up Rest menu/go to Rockstar's cinematic camera.
From there, you can record up to 60min, 30fps, 1080p on the PS4 Pro. Then in PS4's ShareFactory, you can crop the video to hide/eliminate the "Aim Weapon" menu in the bottom right corner.
    Other details:
    • Getting cities has proven tricky - the ambient music often only kicks in if you're outside of towns.
    • I'm considering going back and trying to see what of the camps I can film from during the story
    • If there's enough interest, I'd like to raise enough money to get an Elgato 4K60 Pro so that I can kick out 4K60fps for y'all :D

In the first few hours of my first playthrough, this song triggered somehow as I rode into the northern part of the Bluewater Marsh. I had never gone near Roanoke yet, but I distinctly remember hearing this music as I rode my first horse through the gathering dusk on the wooden pathway over the mud. The peaceful sounds of the marsh, the lanterns lighting the way through the fog, the occasional call of the birds as they flew away, the glow of the Saint Denis lights emerging from the gloom, all with this music playing in the background…
    It was perfection.

Tip: for anyone scared of murfree brood or the eerie music, you can make a campfire and fast travel to camp or other locations if you upgraded camp before chapter 6.
You can also fast travel from your camp too, a map is by the the right side of your sleeping area.
You also encounter the murfree brood 2 times when campfiring in roanoke ridge (same applies to tall trees, blackwater) but im sure they won't appear ever again after those encounters.
Edit: Also, ride on the train tracks. Im pretty sure there are no ambushes.

I hate the entire northeastern part of the map. Van Horne and Annesburg are just such horrible, bleak places to be in--and that's something that makes the story even more fantastic because the environment really suits the tone of chapter 6. But still, I hate it. I like going north beyond Annesburg though, into the very empty wilderness areas, and I love this ambience. It makes my skin crawl.

  • @Blammbeck

There was always a mental hunch with the north-east areas in each Red Dead Redemption game for me - coincidental entirely, but something I hold a lot more true to myself after playing through Chapter 6 - that the design of those songs were based around the atmosphere of the areas they're included in, sure, but I think they're the most ambient-inclusive main theme of each protagonist.
By that, I mean: listen to this track. Decayed whistling off in the distance - just off the brink: never sounding like it's stringing a melody together; far too despondent, far too alone. The only thing amidst the chatters of animals and the sound of nature itself is an arrangement of wind and strings. For the night, pianos and banjos played deliberately and slowly; the only wind instrument used is one introducing a long, dreadful hum - a weight in the back of your head, present - not festering, just...present. For the day, the banjo comes alive like around the swamps, but comes with a form of malcontent: an ever present inclusion of the violin being used for a slow note in the background. It's a weight that carries through: an implication. A thought.
Speaking of thoughts, there's no better way to handle the concept of "intrusive and sinister thought" than the way they chose with the harmonic hum, which buzzes with multiples of itself to great effect. It always ends on a delayed and oppressive note, that lingers in with copies of itself that fluctuate even still. Many people associate it here with "something is out to get me," when that seems like it's missing a crucial element. An element of acknowledging that stressor of mind. That way you try to switch your brain off. Maybe from someone screaming at you - maybe from the prospect of your own mortality fast approaching. Intrusive thoughts feel like they miss the bigger picture, but it's hard to cut them off when you're down at your lowest.
If you've never listened in on Tall Trees in RDR1, it's fitting for John. You can find it by looking up "Nekoti Rock ambience" on youtube. I'd rather not put too much in this comment, but I will say that it's fittingly lonely and somber for a reason. An end of the line - geographically and metaphorically.
Though I guess that last statement's fitting for both, anyway.
