+dylan miller I think it is better. All down to personal preference though. I like the combat much better. The different stances for each weapon and the skill trees for massive variety in builds and a sense of progression really sets itself apart from Souls games.
+Mel D. Some people don't like a challenge I guess. There are a lot of people who play games on easy modes. This game isn't for people with no skill or observation abilities.

Scorpio supposedly has like 6 Tflops GPU and 320 GB/s, so fanboys who act like they are paid employees of x company should be worried about that. If they put some games out this time they're going to make the PS4 Pro look pretty bad. Personally I buy everything, so I don't care. I have a PS4 and PC, not getting an Xbox until they release a decent exclusive. Gears of war 4 I can play in 1440p on my PC so I don't get why I would even buy an Xbox.

Had PS4 since launch but was put off by the Pro due to not having or planning to get a 4k tv anytime soon and the fact 1tb isn't big enough I have a 2tb hard drive in my PS4 right now and have only 300gb left. However boost mode and the use of external hard drives after this update is making me think more about it now.

Man, this looks really great, but as a Dark Souls 1, 2 and Bloodborne vet, and someone who consciously skipped Dark Souls 3 after Bloodborne and The Witcher 3 combined sucked up hundreds of hours of my life (that I now think could have been more constructively spent on other hobbies/tasks), I really have trouble committing to games like this these days, as I'm a completionist, and won't stop until I'm done, even if it means no sleep and neglecting other aspects of my life. Damn you, adulthood!

you can avoid dark souls 3 all you want, but dark souls 3 is more of a mix between bloodborne and dark souls, you should try it.

Kinda but it doesn't have as much DMC in it's genes. It's closer to a fighting game than a button masher. I also feel like I can break away from combat easier than I can in those games, mobility is definitely improved, and the ranged combat is greatly evolved over DS (which I thought had really bad ranged combat.) Also the fact that you have a skill based way to replenish stamina *in a fight* really makes it a lot more tactical than those games.
It's more like Ninja Gaiden, not DMC.

is this worth checking out for someone who's not really an action rpg fan, but lives and dies by Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma? really love deep melee combat, and the telltale startup frames for enemy attacks with good dodging reminds me of home(ninja gaiden), but im not sure how much leveling/equipment management is required.

Spooktacular Wheatley but I have played the game. it's great. I'll be honest I was expecting it to be shit but I was blown away by this game. as someone who started on PC went to xbox and now has a ps4 I can say that yes a lot of people boast before the roast. but don't say everyone who owns a ps4 is like that. I've actually played the game. it's fluid engaging and best of all really fucking hard. and I like that in a game. I hate having my hand held. from the start of the game it kicks your ass like the undead aslym in DKS. it expects you to get good at the game rather then pandering to you. so that's what I think about it. I'm sorry if I went off on a rant but all this just popped in my head so I said it.

Yeah. I've put around 20 hours into the game. And I refuse to hop on hype trains I believe that hype ruins games fundamentally.
I would rather just play the game and see what it has to offer before I say anything.
So yeah that's my opinion on the game. I know that this game isn't for everyone and I respect that. It's for a niche market that happens to be quite large. But in the end its still a niche. Some people won't like it. And that's fine by me.
I've never played a dark souls or bloodborne game, would you suggest i have a go at those games first instead of this one? or is nioh good to start with?? i know they're all different games but some would be considered harder than others.
Get Nioh and Bloodborne. Bloodborne with DLC is like $20-25 and is an awesome complete game with tons replay value. Nioh is kickass too!

Not really. If you enter NG+ and higher in Dark Souls, Demon Souls, and Bloodborne, all bosses typically one shot you. You'll become better as a gamer anyways from working on your reflexes.
Good thing that doesn't happen in this game if you're playing it diligently. Don't listen to this reviewer he's clearly not learning the lessons the game is BEGGING him to learn.

It's not brutally hard or unfair... It just takes some concentration and thought. You need to approach a game like this with the mindset that dying is just going to happen, sometimes often. If you get stuck there are quite a few ways you can approach whatever is causing you trouble. The game gives you a shit-ton of tools and answers to everything it throws at you.

Is this a return to form for Team Ninja? I haven't heard of this game. After NG3 though, I'm surprised it is good. Is it anything like Ng2? Obviously it's like From Software's games (looks almost like it is ripped from them).
The combat definitely has a Ninja Gaiden feel to it. And once you master the mechanics and unlock the appropriate number of skills from each weapon as you progress through the game.
Oh man--- You'll be able to experience the graceful fluidity of the combat system, being able to lay waste to foes without any of them being barely able to lay a finger on you.
Can you turn off those numbers that show your damage? Honestly things like that ruins a whole game for me. I guess it's from all my MMORPG playing back in the day, I just can't stand it anymore.

This game everything about it people say is awesome, I just can't get over graphic style though I don't like it. The darkness is super off putting but just idk the graphic texture is like.... 'chalky detail' best way to describe it.

Seems good alright. But it surely is inferior to Ninja Gaiden Black. This high level of a mix of versatility, uniqueness and reasonable difficulty is to yet be seen since Dark Souls in a game.
Dat kusarigama weapon.... epic. When you get a choice of weapons - that is what i chose as a main hand - cus i wanted more of a challenge / use a different type of play style than normal darksouls sword etc.... wow was it a great choice too :D

Not a fan of Dark Souls games but I'm planning to buy this game for it's story, I wonder if it's good.
I seriously hope E3 has some Xbox One exclusives announced because so far, it seems like the PS4 has at least 1 exclusive coming out every month. I mean just last month we had Kingdom Hearts 2.8, Gravity Rush 2, Tales of Berseria, and Yakuza 0 and now this month has Nioh, Nier Automata and Horizon Zero Dawn (which I hope is good).
I love my PS4, but Sony Fanboys are definitely getting annoying. There is no need to constantly bash xbox users. We all get it, the exclusive count on xbox isn't as high as Sony or Nintendo, but there are still some great games on Xbox and I am optimistic about E3 for all 3 console manufacturers

Justin Shaw Personally, I would go with Nioh. I felt dark souls 3 was good, but I would not place it any higher than demon souls and bloodborne. Maybe on the same level as dark souls. With Nioh and soulsbourne I would rank it: Bloodborne=Nioh>demon souls>ds1>ds3>ds2.

Right around the time I got my PS4, the beta was available on PSN for a limited time. I played the game day and night before I even touched my pack-in game (Uncharted 4), and I have been looking forward to its release ever since. The wait is finally over :)
Wow U4 was my pack in game too. What did you think of it once you had played Nioh? (I had to return my U4 copy because it wouldn't let me play enough and I'm not really into games for their stories.)

If you want those extra cool-looking armors with great stats and missions from the Season Pass--- then go for it. Since the missions in particular do add more replayability to a game that is already pretty long...
If not. Then go for the Standard edition.
This is why you get two or three consoles. That way you can play pretty much everything. Also, it's great for the industry. Competition breeds innovation.

Playing it and love it but i don't understand the ki pulse thing. it does not seem to actually do anything.
When I use it at the end of a combo (my only chance to without getting nommed,) it refills my stamina about twice as fast as normal.
Do you reckon GameSpot looks at IGN's review (which came out way, way earlier) and says, shit we better give a similar score?

Just picked this up after hearing all the good things. I've never played any of the Souls games, they just never interested me, I'm hoping I'm not in over my head. Can't be flinging my controller out the window. Windows and controllers cost money I don't have right now!
I was surprised to see "Captured on PS4". Judging by how every walkthrough and review videos here, on youtube, are captured on PS4 Pro, I thought the base ps4 was already dead.

been playing this game for last 2 days in daily 2 hour sessions and i am loving it :) Hands down one of the best games iv played.
I really respect that level of *discipline*. ^ ^ I just picked it up on my day off yesterday and I'm putting in like 4-6 hrs on each of my days off. Easy. That's kind of how it goes with a new game though.

Asshat i have platinum in bloodborne and finished the first dark souls, played a good amount of 2nd and 3rd. Even played and finished lords of the fallen aswel as salt and sanctuary . Nioh is better than all of those games.
dknight xs nioh is great,but bloodborne is better in my opinion.

I never liked the souls games because of the obtuse storytelling which prevented me from immersing myself into the games and even caring about finishing it. Nioh has a concise storytelling and fast paced combat which I love. Every death feels like a learning experience and through my failures I'm getting stronger and smarter until I finally kick ass. Nioh has what dark souls lacked for me and I am definitely gonna play this for a long time.
For Honor or Nioh?
-FH imo, isn't quite worth the tag imo but I like the mutiplayer elements as I mostly play BF1 and DS so I kind of think thee's a good casual balance there.
-I don't like the thought of getting Nioh just to get 50 hours in and become tired of trying - currently stuck in Anor Londo (dark souls) and need to keep farming o_o
