Definitely an underrated X-men Cartoon I know the original cartoon is still beloved today but I was a big fan of X-men evolution, but this cartoon is great If only it got more episodes, but I own it all on DVD. The theme and characters really well storytelling
It was also weird because at first the only way to buy the entire season was to import the steelbook DVD set from Canada, and then meanwhile randomly years later the entire season was put out on Blu-ray. My cousin bought me the Steelbook DVD for my birthday, and when I randomly saw the Blu-ray set I went ahead and got it and I have both because I couldn’t bring myself to sell the Steelbook DVD set since it was a gift.
I’ve never actually watched this show just for the simple reason that I know it was canceled after one season when it was clearly meant to go on. At least the severely under rated X-Men: Evolution got to end on a good note (although they had more plans for that show as well before it got axed.)
From all the X-Men shows, this one and Evolution deserved more than the 1990s animated series to be honest to get revivals. The 90s one had a great run and didn't need more. But it's sad that this X-men show had to die thanks to executives mismanaging things, despite that, creative people managed to create a good product even with all the stress and mismanaging, and at least the Animation Studio is still up, it's nice to see that they didn't die and are proud of the show too, it's not something they want to hide. As someone who works in this creative field, it's always a gamble to have a project being green lit or not and when it gets not knowing how long the project is going to survive, will it get a second season? Will it get enough funding? And so on.
Sometimes we may never know what exactly happened but it should be associated with budget most of the time because remenber that 2d animation is never expensive as vfx movie or game development etc and their history is and running for the most part.
I still hate how Wikipedia works. Any new piece of information only gets veted when it's released in a book or publication. A source where the research is done already wouldn't be added because their rating of proof is so obnoxious.

I rewatched WATXM recently, and was reminded why I liked it as a kid. The designs and characterizations are awesome, the plot is a nice mix of new and old storylines, and the writers gave time for other characters, not just Wolverine, to shine. Even though the show is named for him, and he’s one of the most popular X-Men characters, there’s plenty of Wolverine content already, and I loved the episodes where other characters got a chance to shine. The show ended with such a killer cliffhanger, and I always wondered what killed it, so I’m really glad to find your video explaining why it ended. Maybe it and the other Yost-verse shows will come back, someday. Here’s to hoping!
Sad that this show ended prematurely because it was great. Don't know if it's true but I once heard that this show existed in the same universe as Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes? If that's true then that's pretty cool.
I really like this show, but now that we have X-Men ‘97 I don’t think I need it back anymore. ‘97 really had scratched the itch all of us X-Men fans had for new mutant related content.
I missed this show when it came out, and never saw much about it. But a show that seemed to have Mr Sinister as a focus and also featured Spiral, I'm sorry I missed it!
I loved this show. I still have the series on dvd 😂🤘🏾. I was ready for age of apocalypse season 2. These shows need to take proper surveys and listen to us fans.
Thanks for posting this POG. I know this does not help you with the algorithm as much as your more mainstream videos do. That said, ironically, you have provided a source for Wikipedia to reference.
I liked it, it was its own story separate from the comics (kind of how X-Men evolution was). I did think they made Wolverine/Logan more like Hugh Jackman then his comic book self (he was dam tall in this series) but they got the characters and design and setting down.
On the bright side, the X-Men managed to stop the apocalypse that happened in the future where Professor X with mechanical legs and his ratag bunch of mutants are trying to survive.
Now that Disney plus owns Marvel does that mean the potential shows like Wolverine and the X-Men might get a comeback or even the second series that we've always wanted what do all of you think🤔❓️
Wolverine and the X-men was made by Nickelodeon. The series had no ties to Marvel or Disney as it was created by a direct competitor. The series aired on Nickelodeon alongside Iron-Man: Armored Adventures. The series wouldn't have generated much money for Marvel and probably would have made the Fox acquisition more difficult for Disney. X-men Evolution was a Warner Brothers made series that premiered for another direct competitor to Disney/Marvel. I can only assume that all parties were unwilling to relinquish ownership of their unique creations. Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost were writers for the animation arm of Marvel in the early 2000's. They were great comic writers who produced scripts for both shows. Those individuals have gone on to write for the big screen and probably would be too costly for an animated feature. I followed those gentlemen as comic writers. They aren't writing comics now. They moved on to better pay days. I wish they would come back for more but it is very doubtful.
This show did Cyclops so dirty that I was overall happy it got cancelled. They really made him the saddest and most pathetic version of the character possible.

The Disney deal had LITERALLY NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS SHOW GETTING CANCELLED. It has literally everything to do with the pissing contest of greed between Marvel Studios and Marvel Entertainment, a.k.a. it was literally just Marvel and Fox. The Disney deal is just a convenient scapegoat. The pissing contest it also why the X-Men are missing from Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. To inject Disney as a reason at all is too simplistic, since they would only have bolstered funding if Marvel Studios and Marvel entertainment/Fox weren't being greedy and trying to spite each other.
@Juliiju04 up until it tries to place some level on Disney and act like Marvel Entertainment/Fox and Marvel Studios aren't petty bitches who sank the future of a show and try to bury an entire brand because of greed. There are villains, but only in how stupid they were being. Funding wasn't the true culprit. Money yes, but with things that would have happened regardless of if the show had funding. That is not what the video was saying. It kept trying to place the blame on Disney. I had to post basically the same comment as the first one in the last video PoG did.

This whole era of Marvel trying to push the X-Men under the rug in every other aspect really sucked. It affected the comics and even Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. I can see why lumping the show’s cancellation in with all that would make sense.
Wolverine never works of he's the main character. He's better in a group or slightly behind the scenes. He's a killer and a weapon not a gentle teacher.
This really makes me appreciate WATXM more because it’s amazing how good it came out considering all the bts drama. I always really liked this show as a kid and still did when I rewatched it recently, but it’s probably my least favorite X-Men animated series for one main reason. More than any other adaptation, it felt like it was trying to combine EVERY other version of the X-Men into one thing: the movies (Wolverine being the tall leader with a close connection to Rogue, Beast looking like Grammar, Scott not being as focused on), XTAS (some of the costumes and character inclusions from wackier elements), Evolution (same creators/designers returned for this show and it almost works as a rough narrative sequel), and the “Astonishing X-Men” comics. Many of these things were done well, and many characters are spectacularly done in it, but because it reminds me of so many other things, it feels like it has the least defined identity of all the animated adaptations to me. Still, I would’ve loved to see it continue for a couple more seasons like Evolution
So in Canada I never even got to see episode 26 until years later and I asked several other kids at the time and they didn't either. I don't think they even aired it.

I never liked that either. Even with him being a fav. If anything it'd be Prof X. And the X-Men lol 😅. But no it's X-Men imho and that's it.
You're complaining about a show focusing on wolverine...... when it's called Wolverine AND the X-Men? I bet you hated The Wolverine because it didn't focus on Viper. Or Logan because it didn't focus on Caliban. 🤦♂️
This is the show that made me realize how truly badass and awesome Emma Frost was
X-men evolution got cancelled during apocalypse arc.
Wolverine & the x-men got cancelled during apocalypse arc.
Like, *BRUH!*
Random but this show has my favorite design of cyclops
Wolverine and the X-Men could have at least five seasons, with these particular potential alternate future timeline stories.
Season 1: Days of Future Past
Season 2: Age of Apocalypse
Possible stories as follows Season 3- Season 5:
Season 3: House of M
Season 4: Old Man Logan
Season 5: X-Men 2099
List other alternative stories for consideration.
I would love to see a continuation of this series.
I suspect that at this point, the only way this will ever come back is AFTER 97 wraps up again.
I really did love this X-Men series.
Was one of my favorites if not my absolute favorites and even though a part of me doesn't trust Disney right now I still kind of want to see this animated X-Men series come back
Dude this show is one of many shows I grew up with and loved...then got cancelled. Young Justice, Thunder Cats 2011
It's still a great show but it's a shame that they canceled it after one season.
This was the best ERA of marvel animation. Between this and avengers Earth's mightiest heroes we were spoiled!!
I'm surprised it was ever made. I never saw Wolverine as much of a team player let alone a leader.
I totally get what you mean! You fans are so used to seeing Logan as the lone wolf that they can't picture him stepping up as a leader. But hey, sometimes those unexpected leaders end up being the most inspiring ones, right? Who knows, maybe Logan has some hidden leadership skills waiting to shine!
Wolverine and the Xmen was a bad ass series. Sad we didn't get to see the follow up.
I wish this show would get a revival
I loved this show! It was depressing news indeed, when I heard the show was cancelled!
Sucks cus Steve even said last night he’d love to do Wolverine again! But its not up to him, but producers 😢
nice video mate, really detailed. the only thing i cant wrap my head around though, disney wont make it available to stream outside the US. theres no reason i can think of for this. but you literally can not watch it if your not in the US
Then came X-Men 97 and the fans are cheering 👏!!
Yes it was a great show. Interesting to know the truth about what happened.
Sadly we never got a Season 5 of X-Men Evolution either.
At least the finale in S4 still worked as an ending
Lore of How Wolverine and the X-Men Died: The True Story momentum 100
This was informative. Corruption and greed happens in every organization, but the show should not have suffered. Love to see it back on TV!
They revived the show that had two endings and kept dead the show with a nail biting cliff hanger.
I loved this show. I still have the series on dvd 😂🤘🏾. I was ready for age of apocalypse season 2. These shows need to take proper surveys and listen to us fans.
Thanks for posting this POG. I know this does not help you with the algorithm as much as your more mainstream videos do. That said, ironically, you have provided a source for Wikipedia to reference.
one of the best animated xmen shows!
I liked it, it was its own story separate from the comics (kind of how X-Men evolution was). I did think they made Wolverine/Logan more like Hugh Jackman then his comic book self (he was dam tall in this series) but they got the characters and design and setting down.
This was an excellent series that deserved a full run.
We cannot rule out the financial collapse of 2008. Money tightened up for years to come and WATXM was a casualty.
New upload! Lemme get my hot water bottle and fluff up my pillows.
I’m betting they knew the X-Men animated series would come back after the deal and didn’t bother to keep this one up.
Much like spectacular Spider-Man I believe that if this show was allowed to continue it would have been far greater than it's '90s predecessor
On the bright side, the X-Men managed to stop the apocalypse that happened in the future where Professor X with mechanical legs and his ratag bunch of mutants are trying to survive.
This was my favorite X-Men show as a kid. Really wished there was more.
Now that Disney plus owns Marvel does that mean the potential shows like Wolverine and the X-Men might get a comeback or even the second series that we've always wanted what do all of you think🤔❓️
0:34 I’m a zoomer and I remember enjoying all three of these shows, along with:
Generator Rex, Sym Bionic Titan, Avatar, & Young Justice
This show and emh are the two cartoons I asked to rent when my family would go rent movies
Emma frost is the star of the show
This show did Cyclops so dirty that I was overall happy it got cancelled. They really made him the saddest and most pathetic version of the character possible.
One of the Last OG X-Men to Show Up when Canonically He was the FIRST. Took away all of the Respect he had from others. The whole Jean thing. This is not the Way.
@@Fenris30 Agreed. He's one of my favs of the X-Men and it was horrible to see how he was treated. At least in previous incarnation of X-Men animated series, like the 90's cartoon or X-Men: Evolution, which is the version I kind of grew up with, he was given some respect.
I thought he was written really sympathetically. My favourite character in the show.
@@kpftpbq7253 He was awful. I don't know how anyone can like this version. He was such a needy, pathetic character, who couldn't do anything without Jean.
@@nikunjdixit1175 I think losing your mentor and the love of your life would result in some grieving. His flahback episode is probably the best X-Men episode across all of the X-Men shows.
Isn't that what the video is saying
@Juliiju04 up until it tries to place some level on Disney and act like Marvel Entertainment/Fox and Marvel Studios aren't petty bitches who sank the future of a show and try to bury an entire brand because of greed. There are villains, but only in how stupid they were being. Funding wasn't the true culprit. Money yes, but with things that would have happened regardless of if the show had funding. That is not what the video was saying. It kept trying to place the blame on Disney.
I had to post basically the same comment as the first one in the last video PoG did.
Damn, my brothers and i rented the beat-up, crappy dvd bundles of this show from our local library and binged the crap out of it and EMH. Man, i miss those times
This show had a lot of potential. Disney+ should pick this up.
I hope they add this and evolution to Disney plus uk (I know it’s in other regions)
same
@@marlonclark1896 no wolverine and the x-men and x-men evolution are the worst ones they stay off of tv.
@@marlonclark1896 wolverine and the x-men deserved to be cancelled. it failed but x-men the animated series did not fail and the way they did wolverine and the x-men ruined jean grey they ruined wolverine and they destroyed characters and storyline they even destroyed the phoenix thats a slap in the face to x-men fans. you should watch x-men the animated series that was the only good x-men cartoon.
@@mrx-od3ji no you're wrong
@marlon clark I'm right after xmen the animated series they started failing and became worse.
I'm 19 and I DID see it because I pretty much only watched superhero shit when I was younger (hell, that hasn't changed much) and I stumbled upon it once upon a time on Netflix. I was super bummed at how short it was.
Probably the best depiction of days of future past
I was so pissed this show was cancelled
This whole era of Marvel trying to push the X-Men under the rug in every other aspect really sucked. It affected the comics and even Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. I can see why lumping the show’s cancellation in with all that would make sense.
A really interesting detective story.
Great review
It’s got the mid 2000s animation style that’s so iconic 🫣
Still, I would’ve loved to see it continue for a couple more seasons like Evolution
i cant remember but was Storm in the show?
Yeah but not a major role
One of the best marcel cartoons. Up there with Avengers Assemble imo
I loved this series as a kid
bruh I just started this show a couple days ago how did you know lmao
I was really hoping it would continue I even liked it over the 90s version. Plus I wanted to see the Apocalypse saga
I will forever be sad that we never got a second season
Casting Steve Blum from the original 90s series was the best decision they made though
@@sircaspeedy5972That was Cathal J. Dodd. Steve Blum didn't voice him until X-Men Legends
@@MarioSonicUniverseit's weird, I've seen a lot who seem to think Blum voiced him. Mandela effect maybe?
So in Canada I never even got to see episode 26 until years later and I asked several other kids at the time and they didn't either. I don't think they even aired it.
