Australia and New Zealand treat the Solomon Island as vasal states to and if China didnt approach these islands they will just be the forgotten islands since they are too tiny and insignificant! What kind of economy can these islands that are slowly losing out to rising sea levels due to climate change? Does the west care/ Or the world care for that matter? Just look at how the energy crisis is being played out in Europe with their desperate need for energy they are turning back to coal!
The Solomon Island looks like they will be returned to the Sea with this century if nothing is done to stop global warming and rising sea levels. This is the real tragedy that somehow is ignored and focus on geopolitics, forgetting that once the sea claims the Solomon Island nothing is left so geopolitics goes out of the window!

Its pretty mountainous in the Solomon Islands so I think they will be mostly fine with rising sea levels, however the heat will be the real problem which extends obviously to warming the sea which well... isnt good.

The colonisers, such as UK, Australia, US had occupied or controlled of these pacific islands for centuries and nothing had been done, they had been left to rots. How can it be more enviromental damage after the colonisers had left behind. China had lots to do but at least they are slowly building infrastructures and established communication and basic clean water and electricity.

Their poverty allivation had given every one & villages basic clean water, electricity, etc. Unlike the coloniser left Africa begging for clean water and live with charity but lost all their wealth, until China been there last couple of decades. This will be the same to the Pacific Islands, start of any developement there will some eniviromental issue but once they had proper infrastuctures then the enviroment will improved. Without China's involvement in the region ,Pacific countries would have been neglected by West or at least not keen to offer help . Be smart when it comes to do business with china. The other routes are Myanmar and Pakistan but also not entirely secured so China forms strategic partnership with Russia and build pipelines.

Chinese investment is always a double-edged sword. I won't deny there's a political motive behind the investments. New Zealand, Australia, and the United States have the resources to do more for the Pacific Islands; they need to put them to better use.
Building big multistory buildings does not necessary translate to the development and well-being of Solomon Islands or any other pacific nations. The resources that the Islands have do NOT exist in China or other rich country. The pacific nations have survived on sustainable resources for generations. The introduction of new technologies in the pacific have benefits and disadvantages. Recycling these new technologies is a big challenge for all pacific nations and the waste that is difficult to recycle and the pollution to both the soil and the ocean. The long-term impact will affect future generations. This father's plight is something that cannot be ignored or neglected. The countries who were responsible for these dangerous waste must do something immediately. This arrogance by these nations demonstrate why pacific nations must learn from past experiences.

There are so many abandoned cities in China for tier 1 living and China is still rampantly building more and more of these ghost cities for the sake of providing jobs and most importantly developing it’s people. It is quite the reverse. Countries are working with China because of China is the expert in development with a lower cost and job done in shorter timeframe. Chinese loan terms are kept secret and are used to build useless projects like that stupid lotus tower. The IMF requested a meeting with China and Sri Lanka to resturcture the debt but China refused. They refused because they do not want to give out the information about the debt showing how they overcharged and have high interest. They have to keep everything secret. China does these projects because they use their own firms to build them so they get to employ there own people and the other country pays for it with high interest. They just bribe the government officials and overcharge on construction. They don't care what you build because it's a win/win for them. IMF only gives out loans for projects that will benefit the country like roads and infrastructure. Not useless towers. In 2017 China took a port from Sri Lanka because of debt. I don't see the IMF or any other country coming in and taking parts of Sri Lanka.
