Mafia practises were used to strongly convince regular small farmers to switch to shrimp farming (even murder and kidnapping). Family members of farmers were forced to work in the factories where the shrimps were commercialised under deplorable working conditions. I used the past tense in the hope some got justice eventually but I very much doubt it. It must be 40 years ago now when I saw a shocking French documentary on shrimp maffia in the East. I haven't touched any since. There's not much taste to them anyway unless seasoned with plenty hot peppers and garlic.
