Hello its definitely ultra platinum and yes its hard to find. As far as amsoil well i can tell you that it doesn't have the best cold pour and people are selling amsoil so most of the amsoil test aren't accurate. Project farm didn't use pennzoil ultra platinum until the end of his testing. Go back and watch he used pennzoil platinum and realized he needs to use ultra platinum however thats not fair to change at the end of last couple of test. Example mobil1 annual protection isn't necessarily better than mobil1 full synthetic. It has the ability to last longer but doesn't mean it provides more wear protection and the big difference is thousands of miles later. So the testing may not show that advantage. The best oils depending on application aren't Street legal. Because its changed for the environment and fuel economy.

Installed the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-20 SN-Plus oil in my 2016 Accord (2.4L) in JAN 2020 with about 28,000 miles on the odometer. I was very curious a to see how this hyped up oil would perform. Seemed good for about 3,000 miles, then the oil started burning off excessively when summer hit and temps outside rose to 108 to 110 degrees in my area.
After 3,000 miles on this oil, I was not expecting that much burn off to the point I was out of oil for the next top off. Mind you this oil is not readily available on shelves and has to be
      ordered...
I'm no scientist or oil chemist but, it seems to be a no brainer that the flash point of Gas to Liquid (GTL) base stock in Pennzoil Synthetic oils are much lower than PAO (Group IV) base stock oil. Numerous additives have to be carefully balanced in the process to make this Pennzoil GTL oil work and compete with PAO base stock oils.
Further self analysis revealed that GTL base stock is between a Group III (hydro-cracked) and below a Group IV (true synthetic) base stock. Similar in structure but not a stable as PAO based oil.
Your engine won't notice the difference between GTL and PAO true synthetic oil until it gets low on oil from burning off and that my folks is what I'm worried about. Where is it going? Is it changing back to a gas form and evaporating in extreme heat (at the valve guides and piston rings)? This can be the best oil known to man but, if I have to constantly monitor oil consumption and order oil that is not on shelves, then I need to move back to PAO based oils for reliability.
Truth be told, marketing hype is at its finest here with the Pennzoil GTL products. Pennzoil Ultra is a hard to get oil off the shelf and just makes people want to try it (like me) and see what all the hype is about., It's not Dexos 1 GEN 2 certified to guarantee performance. So what makes it soo special? Regular Pennzoil Platinum out specs the flagship Ultra. Doesn't make sense.
Also getting tired of Pennzoil not controlling their documentation updates online for their products. PDF information documents dated 2018 but the Platinum oil is API SP rated as of May 2020............ CUT & PASTE corrections. What about Ultra Platinum? is it going to be SP rated? When is that document getting updated? Next Year?
That's why I don't care about this hyped up GTL based oil that does not have a mileage guarantee for XX,XXX amount of miles between oil changes like other Group IV true synthetic oils.
That 500,000 mile engine warranty does not mean squat to me when the oil burns off and I'm going through 6 quarts of oil during an 8,000 mile oil change interval on the oil life monitor and my car only holds 4.4 quarts. That's poor performance and probably why it does not meet DEXOS 1 GEN 2 standards.
Nice product but, needs a lot of work for me to come back. I don't trust it.

      Two reasons to do it...

It's good to have more than one test to see if the results are similar, different, and that the formulas haven't degraded from changes due to cost etc... I wouldn't mind those heat and evaporation tests too as I live in Houston and some believe you need to run a higher viscosity oil for protection. Not sure if that's true, but I am noticing that my car which I've always used M1 full synthetic every 5k or 6 months is burning 1 qt every 2k miles at 110k miles on the odometer *(recently moved to Houston and driving a lot more). Subaru 3.6R using Pennzoil Ultra (5W-30) and OEM filter (Tokyo Roki) costs about $40.00 every six thousand miles. (Subaru manual spec) Same change using Amsoil products would be more than three times that. In order to equalize, I would have to run the Amsoil products for 18-24,000 miles...or about two years with my driving pattern...which I'm unwilling to experiment with notwithstanding Amsoil's promises. In five years and 70,000 miles, my Blackstone UOA's using Pennzoil and OEM filters are better than any others I have seen. Think I'll keep doing what I've been doing.

I'm about to switch from QSUD 5W30 (which I do recommend and have used faithfully) in my 2017 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L GDI with 70k miles on it. Reason for the switch is it burns roughly a qt of oil every 500 miles, and after a lot of research, I decided to give Amsoil SS a shot, in hopes of reducing oil consumption (especially for that price). I'm going to use their engine flush too, which actually alleges to reduce oil consumption too. If neither of these step help my problem, I figure I will give Pennzoil Ultra Platinum a go; which I found out after buying the Amsoil, might actually be more appropriate for my application, given it is better against evaporative loss compared to just about anything, even Amsoil SS. I'm hoping but honestly, not expecting Amsoil to deliver, given how severe my oil consumption is. But if it can at least use less than 1.5 qts between Oil Changes (going for 5000 initially) I will probably stick with it. If i lose more than 1.5 qts in 4000 miles (my OCI with QSUD) I will use the rest I got to top it off and hope Pennzoil is the answer to my prayer.

Cold pour tests are more important then the film strength in my opinion. Something in the neighborhood of 90% of engine wear happens during cd start up, the fast the oil starts moving the more you will minimize that wear. The film strength test while very satisfying to watch doesn't really represent conditions that 99.9% of consumers will face on a regular basis.

Here is a test you don't seem to do, that Amsoil ALWAYS wins.... Cook the oil for 2 hours at say 375 degF or so. Check the Volatility by change of mass AMSOIL usually wins this one. THEN check its cold pour speed. AND its film strength. Every other, and I mean EVERY other oil fails this test VS AMSOIL. AMSOIL is formulated to last the distance. So, the difference here is the performance out of the bottle VS the performance after heat shocked AMSOIL is the clear winner 100% of the time all the time. And that is exactly why AMSOIL is simply the best hands down.

Pursuant to a 1990’s law suit between Castrol and Mobil 1, courts ruled that group 3 and 4 base oils are synthetic, therefore any oil that contains one or both of those groups, regardless of proportions, can be called synthetic. So as long as Amsoil contains group 3, even if it’s 100% group 3, they can legally call it 100% synthetic. Thus, 100% synthetic and full synthetic are synonymous. Amsoil admitted this in one of their own blogs.

This is a pretty interesting test to see. One thing this kind of testing can not determine is the oil's resistance to turn acidic over time & start corroding internal parts. I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W-20 @ $20 instead of 0w-20 (almost twice as much $$ a jug), couple it with Fram's best oil filter FRAM ULTRA SYNTHETIC™ 20,000 mi. filter about $10 bucks avoid Fram's other filters (poor quality) For $30 and 10K change intervals and my own labor, the oil is amazingly clean between changes. that might be different now, where I buy it the 5w20 and 0w20 are the same price, newer vehicles are using 0w20, we are using 5w and 10w less and less so 0w20 is getting cheap because everyone is using it. My 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe takes 5w30 but the dealer just changed to 0w20 for it now.

I used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum on my new Lawnmower this year, it has a Honda GX160 engine. It performed very well, these videos helped with my decision. I won’t be using it over the winter but do keep it in the garage and we can get temperatures below-20 Celsius here in The Snow Belt. So even for storage it’s a good idea to have a quality synthetic.
I started with a 10w30 synthetic blend that I got with the mower, then switched to a SAE30 in the hot summer months. After some research I switched to Pennzoil UP.
It did make a big difference, not just protection but clearly it removed a lot of the wear the other oils didn’t. I changed it prior to storage and found much more contaminants than expected. Lawnmower engines don’t have oil filters so you really need to change the oil more frequently.
The Pennzoil also made a big difference in fuel efficiency, it took me about 2 months to go through a gallon of gas in the spring, and 4 months to go through another gallon before putting it into storage.
That 2nd gallon took a bit to go through too, I had to use it for leaf pickup as well in order to use it up. I was also using Shell 91 Nitro by then too which also helped.
    Superb results

I use PUP 5w30 in my car even though the manual recommends 5w20 or 0w20. The 5w30 is on the thin side, more like a robust 20 and flows as well or better than most 0w oils. It also has very low evaporation and high viscosity index.

    Question # 1
What oil base Amsoil using, since they don’t make they own ?
    Question # 2
Why most worshiped oils like Amsoil,Red Line and so on are not sertified by API ? Are they to cheap to pay the sertificate,or they know that they will fail ?
    Question # 3
What other oils are made from natural gas besides Pennzoil ?
And here is my opinion. You don’t have to agree to it. Price-quality-availability,range of viscosity and additives Pennzoil is the one that fits it all. If you don’t race your everyday ride ( high temp performance ),and have naturaly aspirated engine ,don’t use Ultra Platinum,as it lacks the seal conditioner. Go for Platinum or Platinum high millege. My former 06 Maxima had 320 000 miles on it when rear main seal started to sweat a little. I switched from Platinum to Platinum high millege. Leak stoped after 2 oilchanges. Now i drive different car but still stick to Pennzoil. By the way i sold Maxima to my coworker 2 years ago,and its still on a road.

Look at the 540Rat blog outlining oils tested by a mechanical engineer. Over 200 oils tested. Ultra Platinum is a very good oil, but numerous oils had a significantly higher wear film strength such as Mobil 1 0W40, Valvoline Maxlife Full Synthetic, Quaker State Ultimate Durability, and the number 1 oil tested for film strength straight out the bottle: Amsoil 5w 30 Signature Series. I would use any of those over Ultra Platinum. I have a high mileage car and the Valvoline also has seal conditioners along with top of the line film strength. So I go with that.. You should try testing the full synthetic Maxlife instead of Synpower....

But they're not subjected to high temps as an engine sees.... even more so in forced induction applications. Imo, this is only a small piece of the whole story

I change my oil every 3000 no matter what. I want the oil clean. Oil change inervls use to be 3k before enviro-wackos in govt pressured to change. I'm using Ultra Pennzoil because it hs best cold flow, keeps it clean & has good film srength and boron additive package. If I use Amsoil, I gotta extend the OCI way out to justify. Don't want to go that long on oil. I want the oil like new in my engine......all the time.

Has anyone noticed how the same oil as iy moves thru the ranks causes different amounts of wear lost on the bearing scare trst?
Now think about what that means. The oil is from the same bottle and room temp is basically the se. The weight and testing machine is the same so....tale a guess where the variation is... Hmmm could it maybe be the hardness of the bearings.... You got it. So then much of the variation in very close tests is likely to be variation in bearing hardnes. The bearings would have to be tested for wear hardness and toighness ratings to ensure equal bearings are used.
Consider schaeffers had a bearing loss of only 0.01 and thats the max resolution and actually below what the accuracy of that scale is capable of. So its not a tie if both hit .01. On top of that amsoil goes on yet its scare test lost 300% more than schaeffers 0.01 vs 0.03. Thus schaeffer is superior to any oil that had a bearing loss of more than 0.01 grams.
Point is there are way way to many uncontrolled or accounted for varaible and the t
esting temp is of no use. Engine oil is not at room temp in the bearing but closer to 220 degree. Oil should be bearing tested at 250 to 300 f degrees to have any praxtical benefit.
Not being a jerk but there is a reason there are specific scientic proptocols used and ways to address variation. You can not run sample sizes of one either as it does not statistically allow for the unc
onteoled variations but need 5 to 10 runs and compute average sd and es for comparison . Then do that for each oil and post results. This tournament style stuff is entertainment and has
zero place in trying to do proper testing. But the real thing is clicks and revenue from youtube not actually truth or real meaningful results. But that is the nature of the youtube beast I gueas. Sad but true these days.

I think you may be misssing a few brain cells, clearly in the last test the pulley splashed a bunch of the pennz oil out of the dish, if it was in a closed confined space the result would be different considering there wouldn’t be any loss of oil what so ever, so I think you need to rethink how you assess your tests
