Great old film from the classic Golden Age of Hollywood, starring the late great Bela Lugosi who was a drug addict back then! But they really need to digitally remaster this, fix the sound as well, needs to be clearer! Along with other great old films from that era, many of them are also true masterpieces of art and technology back then! Sad to see we have lost many! They can disinigrate! Director Martin Scorcese has worked to preserve many of our great old films, because once they're gone, that's it. so please support film preservation! Thanks~
Thanks for the upload - I have the first Chandu film on DVD but hadn't seen the sequel.
Dean Benton ("Bob") had a relatively short film career from 1934 through 1943. Other than the Chandu films and a couple of others, his career centered on little-known low budget and exploitation films, including COCAINE MADNESS, LIFE RETURNS, and SMASH THE VICE TRUST.
A good Bela flic....Always fun watching Bela weave his magic..

I find it unbelievable that Universal studios only gave Bela Lugosi 3 or 4 quality rolls to act in. Dracula of course, The Son of Frankenstein, The Ghost of Frankenstein, And Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein. They edited out Lugosi's voice for Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman. They took a good script and erased it. The rest of the movies they they let him act in were second & third rate parts. They did have him play in the Black Cat & the Invisible Ray and Black Friday, These were decent films but Bela's characters in Black Friday & Invisible Ray were not really the kind of rolls Lugosi could excel in. Except for the Black Cat his part in these films were just barely supporting parts wasting his talent. When they started to do the monster franchise films like House of Dracula and House of Frankenstein the part called for Dracula to be in both movies, So they cast John Carradine as Dracula ! Who is a fine actor, But when it comes to playing Dracula there is only one Bela Lugosi. Why did they not cast Bella ? In Night Monster he has a part as a butler ! Incredibly the house is filled with spooks and ghouls and they cast Bela as the more or less straight man butler ? It seems like from the onset with Carl Laemmle Jr who seemed to dislike Bela, Universal Studios never understood the creative actor he was. Even after the Laemmle's sold Universal Studios The new owners didn't understand Bela's talent at all. Which amazes me because these guys are supposed to be professionals and most monster fans who do not cast actors for a living can see how talented & miscast at Universal Bella was. And yet Universal didn't seem to have a clue.

HI Karen, The Return of Chandu is a 1934 American 12 episode fantasy film serial based on the radio series Chandu the Magician..... In 1935, the remaining 8 episodes of the serial were also edited into a second feature film, of 65 minute length, released as Chandu on the Magic Island. Bye and take care ☺👍👋
