Same comic in 6.0 grade just sold for $1670 shipped on ebay (02/25/2020). Appraisal was probably about right, this one would probably sell for about $2000 for a 6.5 - 7.0 grade. Minus all the fees. Ebay and paypal take about 13% off the top. So if she sells it herself she can get $1750, but she has to worry about listing or shipping it, versus cash in hand.

1400 was a really good price, that's 70% of the appraised value, she should've taken it. People always seem to forget that the pawn shop isn't going to give you full value, that's the whole point, you're paying them 30-50% of the item's value in exchange for them taking care of the hassle and the wait of actually finding a buyer. Now she has to find a buyer, which can take months, and then package and ship the item to the buyer, or go through the struggle of listing it in an auction and gamble getting nothing where she could've walked out with cash that day. If you're not willing to take a 70% offer, you should've never gone to a pawn shop.

I really do wonder with the "experts" coming in and giving their appraisal if Rick doesn't first talk to them to ask them to low-ball the person. It's highly odd that in most cases when someone gives their asking price, the "retail value" is always just a bit lower than what they wanted, which means they will end up getting offered even lower after that.

1400 was actually a good price. Grading is subjective. Ebay has a 5.0 graded going for 1700 OBO. If that doesn't come back 6.5-7.0 then she screwed herself. Also selling online means 10% to Ebay in fees, 3% to Paypal in fees, plus shipping costs.
