    Some of these comments are disgusting, calling Benn a turncoat rat, you people have no idea what you are talking about, did you not watch the speech? Just because he isn't in agreement with Comrade Corbyn doesn't make him anti labour. In fact he was reminiscent of genuine old Labour, patriotic and actually gave a dam about British traditions and sense of decency. You angsty teens need to grow up.

    • @Templedelagloire
      @Templedelagloire 8 лет назад +17

      +colprom that's exactly what it was about - 'patriotism and 'old british traditions' - you like him because he brings up old memories of world war II and the international brigade. He doesn't make the case for war, just makes the case sound a lot nicer.

    • @bugattieb110ss

      +Templedelagloire We're already at war you idiot! We've been assisting in vaporising the bastards in Iraq and are now able to chase the cowardly twats across a mythical line on a map so they can no longer hide. The decision made last night is perks of living in a democracy matey, the majority vote won. Just because you disagree with it, doesn't make it wrong...and by the way, it won't be YOU who's being ordered to go in and fight, it will be me!!!

    • @Templedelagloire
      @Templedelagloire 8 лет назад +6

      bugattieb110ss then the decision should have been to end the bombing campaign altogether, stop all money going to saudi arabia where funding to isis comes from, support moderate rebels financially - there is no shortage from within syria and surrounding countries. War should always be the last resort.

    • @bugattieb110ss
      @bugattieb110ss 8 лет назад +3

      +Templedelagloire Great! And those lovely boys of I.S would have plenty of time to re group, re arm and re organise while the negotiations swing into inaction. I agree with you that the funding needs to be cut off and that Saudi are the prime suspects, but that isn't going to happen over night - if ever... and you and I both know that they are holding a sizeably big economic bat over those they supply Oil to.

      If my people were being raped, murdered, beheaded...etc, and as a nation we couldn't do anything about it. I would be begging/praying for foreign forces to use (precision) airstrikes to relieve the suffering of thousands of civilians, who will be potentially future targets of IS later down the line. They need to have as much pressure on them as possible. They can't be left to carry on regardless. The majority of the Labour party under Corbyn thinks the world is pink and fluffy....I'm sorry to say it ain't. lv you 😘

No, they have targets, ISIS targets, safehouses, training camps, houses, etc. if civilians get caught up in it, that's unfortunate but it'll be unintended. When the US took out Jihadi John with an air strike, it was just Jihadi John and a friend I believe that were killed.

    I watched and listened to a number of MPs giving their impassioned views both for and against air strikes on ISIL in Syria, but this speech by Hilary Benn was first class, emotive and forthright. It will go down in parliamentary history as one of the greats - and the applause by both sides of the house was well deserved. Whether or not you agree with the resultant action in Syria - you can't deny that this piece of oratorio was a real "pull no punches" treat.

    Corbyn's face is priceless!

  • @jordansmith8710
    @jordansmith8710 8 лет назад +5

    This is the best thing that I have heard on this topic. He should be the leader of the Labour party. Corbyn's had a good time of it, making himself look like a hippy. He is too left wing, they need a neutral. This passion is what politics should be. He put his argument across with brilliant fluency and with brilliant passion. It shows with the standing ovation he got from the house.
    This speech actually changed my mind on the bombings. He was that convincing. It's what we need, a bit of fire and passion. I think he is totally right with what he says.
    To the people saying that it will make them more aggravated and more likely to attack, there is nothing that can increase their willingness to end every thing that we stand for. The motion to negotiate with them is ridiculous. You cannot negotiate with people who are trying to end your civilisation. I am not condoning the innocents dying, that is barbaric, but at the end of the day it's war. It is what happens. No life is more important than another, but we should be obligated to protect our freedom, democracy and what we stand for. Once someone is threatening to harm our people and the way we think, speak, act and live our lives, then they should be removed from the face of the Earth. The whole reason countries like France and the US want us to get involved is because we are tacticians. We don't just bomb people for the fun of it like the Americans do, we only do it as a last resort and we don't go out as an aim to kill innocent civilians. However, I do believe we should be getting at it from the stem of the problem and confront Saudi Arabia and Turkey for their funding of ISIS. The ideology is stemmed from Saudi ideology. The Saudis are still giving them oil to then sell on the the Turkish, that's barbaric! It won't get rid of ISIS by any stretch of the imagination, but it will help. It will help stamp it out in Syria so that the rebels can focus on gaining their democracy and not fighting ISIS, plus with the fact that the refugees want to go home and live a happy, free life! It will help with all of these things. ISIS is an ideology, you can't destroy an ideology. However, we can scare them. I can guarantee that the SAS have been stalking the ISIS leaders for a long time now, they will ensure that little, if any, civilians are killed in the conflict. We think before we do, that's the difference between us and our Allies.
    I must say, I don't mind if you disagree. As long as you bring back a solid, well structured argument then I am more than happy to talk to you about it. I am not for war what so ever by the way, I just feel that it can be a necessary evil in some cases.

      @hairyscotsman2 8 лет назад +1

      +a380kik You do not base a political speech on openly professing to not knowing the difference between theocracy and fascism. We did not bomb Franco's regime. That anyone listened at all to this warmongering, twisted evocation of the spirit of WWII is a sad indictment of our education system.
      Franco was a fascist who won, was in power for a long time , who was not bombed and we do not have radicalized young Spaniards causing terror in our cities today.
      That was a series of words forming a false argument that ate itself right at the end.
      Hilary's speech was completely inept. Delivery was reasonable. 3/10

    • @KGS922
      @KGS922 8 лет назад

      +hairyscotsman2 To most people's minds, fascism is simply violent authoritarianism. There's no need to be technical about definitions, is there? I think the differences between Franco, Mussolini, Hitler and Al-Baghdadi were largely irrelevant within the context of the debate. I think the speech was a formidable one, largely because of its delivery and rousing nature. That it was the best speech of the night doesn't necessarily mean that the side for which it was brought was in the right.

    Every MP has to do what they believe to be right. There was a free vote and Benn was entitled to vote for the motion if it was a matter of conscience for him, but he should have done so quietly, and he should have offered to step down as shadow Foreign Secretary because of the irreconcilable differences between himself and the members. He was not entitled to make this disastrously brilliant speech, and I hope he is deselected for what he did that day.
    I wrote to my MP before the vote asking him to oppose the motion. My MP is a Tory whip. He replied to me, of course parroting the Tory line on the issue, but also enclosing (1) the UN Resolution and (2) the Hansard extract of Hilary Benn's speech. That says it all, really. Benn is doing the government's work for them.

      +ufewl mate that's disgusting. I ask should we of bowed down to hitler and the third riche? Should we of surrendered to the red army? I certainly wouldn't bow down to any facist dictators, no air strikes won't stop Isis alone but you know what, it's not about that. It's about showing unification and solidarity of people who have lost to these evil thugs and making a stand against them. Civilians will die, but as Ben said we fight with the intent to protect and never to kill. If our army and NATO need to go fight which I hope not then so be it, our armed forces is the thing that protects the country and maybe unlike Iraq we will do it right this time with developing and rebuilding people who have lost everything lives.

    There's something seriously wrong when there is a large amount of Tory MPs applauding a speech from the Labour Shadow Foreign Secretary. He has let his party down with this speech and it's all because of personal feelings towards Jeremy Corbyn.

    • @georgemorley1029
      @georgemorley1029 3 года назад

      But on the bright side, he did take the correct and principled stance of standing up to religious fundamentalist terrorism and fascism. Which is, ya know, not only on the right side of history, but also far more important than worrying about whether the political pygmy that is Jeremy Corbyn liked it or not, or the remnants of a once proud political party, now overrun by complete basketcases.

      +Leo Batchelor Bullshit being the key word. You do not base a political speech on openly professing to not knowing the difference between theocracy and fascism.
