- It's not every day the Queen turns up at a cabinet meeting. In fact it last happened in peacetime almost 250 years ago. It was a special visit to mark her Diamond Jubilee, and, Downing Street said, to thank her for her public service.
How Kate Williams looks at Tony Ben when he first speaks is so telling, she understands his greatness, she sits as if listening to a leader of the people, which of course Tony was. The greatest PM Britain never had, a man who could run circles around the leaders of today. A great loss.
Benn was a commie refused to accept his place in the House of Lords changed his name from Anthony Wedgwood Benn to Tony Benn, Thatcher was much better
Tony Benn at his best!
Strange.. the algorithm of RUclips doesn't spread this.
Why I was recommended this video?
I assumed from the title that Boris had invited her or something, but this is eight years old...
Unbelievable to see those who are supposed to be the people's representatives kowtowing like that. Time for the UK to grow up and leave kings and queens in the fairy stories where they belong.
one of the greatest tricks the royal family did was convince ppl like you that the royals had no power and the populace rules themselfs lol.....
The royal family plays a crucial role in the running of the country. Especially the Queen. Simply getting rid of an institution because it is old is ridiculous. We should get rid of something when it no longer has use. Our Monarchy is useful. They bring in more than we pay them.
Growing up is not synonymous with ditching the monarchy. It is even worse for the UK to have an elected head of state who just bows not to the people but to the "generous" donors for his/her election campaign.
@@yamyam2987 that's the point
I always love the facial expressions of excited historians.
"the queen said little, though the state of the nation's finances was clearly preoccupying her." Well then isn't that proof that the planet's ruling dynasties are WAY above the mere kings and countrymen, democracy etc.
Interesting discussion.
He's absolutely right, cabinet minutes should be made public
They are after a period of time. As Cabinet Ministers all sides have signed the Official Secrets Act.
The cabinet is a committee of Her Majesty's Privy Council and it is HER government. There is nothing wrong with that, most especially if the topics during the visit is purely a kind gesture
This is shocking I threw my hips up hearing this I'm getting a pizza now lol lmao innit
how was the pizza?
No point in publishing cabinet minutes. Most people wouldn't be interested.
But those interested will read it. Including me
They have a 30 year gap from written to being in the public domain.
@@2511dhall That is the standard time frame. It can be much more or never.
"The thing about the monarchy which nobody understands"- sounds a bit arrogant, Mr. Benn. You're the only one who understands it, right...
