Hey I’m getting a hedgehog on Saturday (so excited!!) I have everything set up but I’m a bit worried that his heat lamp is a bit too close to his cage. It’s clipped onto the top of his cage which is an open cage. I’ve looked around but can’t see anywhere that states a minimum distance the CHE can be to the setup. Can anyone help? X
I personally have mine roughly 18 inches from my hedgehog, give or take a couple inches. I don’t know that there is a minimum or maximum distance per say, I’d imagine it’d vary based on situation, but you want to make sure that it is far enough away that your hedgehog can’t touch it, and it isn’t touching any of your hedgehogs items. Particularly the wheel, which will melt under direct close heat. You also don’t want it too close to cause hot spots since your hedgehog needs a warm ambient temperature. Hopefully that helps!

Hi Tori I have a lot of questions since I got my hedgie 3 days ago... Do you know if Aspen Supreme is a good bedding for my hedgehog? He is 7-8 weeks old. Should I bathe him if he is dirty? Is it normal that he is not so defensive as other hedgies? (he went out of his ball really quick)
I’m not familiar with aspen supreme specifically, but aspen shavings are safe for hedgehogs. I’d recommend freezing the bedding for 48hrs+ to help prevent mites, as they are common in wood based beddings, but otherwise aspen is safe :) You can bathe him if he is dirty, yes. And it’s a good thing that he isn’t too defensive with you! 😊
