I visited there back in the Fall of 2004. There was some renovation going on but you got the drift. What a crazy building.

It's spectacular. However, we (Indonesians) are very accustomed to knowing that European palaces have pointy towers. Every fairy tales book in Indonesia has that kind of description. So, I feel a bit taken aback that this magnificent palace doesn't have any pointy tower.

The towers, pointy or not, are the archetype of medieval castles. Versailles was built about 200 years after the end of the middle-ages, when medieval fortresses had been replaced with pleasure palaces - at a time when pointy towers had become both useless and out of fashion..

@@jfrancobelge Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. Honestly, I do not know much about European architecture. I was just saying that children's fairy tale books in Indonesia depict pointy towers as stereotypical features of palaces. 😁

Having been there in person, its a lovely place. The Gardens were massive but since it was winter, most of the plants were dull.
Also the occasional gunshots were funny.
